Absolutely fabulous. Lovely family vibe when we arrived, so warm and welcoming. Transported instantly from the anonymous financial district to a locals’ diner. The chicken parmigiana with mash and veg was stunning. The kids loved their burgers and mozzarella sticks. An unexpected highlight of our first trip to Toronto from the UK. Thanks guys! We’ll be back again before we go home. 👏

Took the kids here on a Tuesday night and it was exactly the kind of low-key dinner we needed after a long day. The pasta special was genuinely delicious and both my children cleared their plates without complaint, which is basically a miracle. The staff were warm and patient with us, never making us feel rushed even though the little one kept dropping her fork. We will definitely be coming back, it just has that relaxed neighbourhood feel that makes a weeknight dinner actually enjoyable.

Solid choice. Had the grilled chicken bacon avocado panini with poutine. Respectable. Rice pudding, good; could have done without the raisins, but tasty. Good service.

Was like a time capsule in a downtown highrise. Looks like they installed the original decor when the old place was razed, and the new building took its place.

I visited Fran’s Restaurant and Bar on July 19, 2024, and I still remember how satisfying the meal was. The restaurant had a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere, and despite being busy, it felt clean, welcoming, and well organized.

I ordered the whole rotisserie chicken with rice and mixed vegetables, and it was absolutely delicious. The chicken came out perfectly roasted with crispy, golden skin and tender, juicy meat that was flavorful all the way through. It was one of those simple meals done right. The rice was fluffy and paired perfectly with the chicken, while the vegetables were fresh and cooked just enough to keep their texture and natural sweetness.

What I appreciated most was the generous portion size and the quality of the food. Everything tasted fresh and homemade, and you could tell that care went into preparing the meal. It was comforting, filling, and worth every penny.

I would gladly come back again whenever I’m in the area. Highly recommended!

I had an excellent breakfast at Frans. I ordered the braised beef benedict, and it tasted really good. The beef was tender, the sauce was balanced, and the whole dish came together nicely. The coffee was excellent too—rich, smooth, and a perfect match for the meal.

The service was friendly and welcoming, and the staff kept things moving even when it got busy. Lines can get long at peak times, but the staff handle it well. The prices are a little high for breakfast, but the quality, flavor, and service make it worth it.
I also had a cup soup as well, but it was a little bland, so I would recommend sticking to the traditional breakfast entrees.

In spite of the small issues Frans is still a great choice for a tasty, well‑made breakfast. I would have breakfast here again.

Me and my boyfriend had heard so much about this diner and we finally got a chance to try it and it did not disappoint!

The food was high quality, portions were generous, and prices were reasonable.

We loved the Canadian Benedict and Maple Leaf as breakfast, and their amazing coffee. The cheesecake with strawberry syrup was also delicious.

Lauren was our server and she was extremely attentive and nice even though they were busy we felt very taken care of regardless.

The interior feels vintage and warm.

Overall it was a great experience, I can see why so many people have recommended this place to us!

I went to the frans on
Sutter st.and had what the menu described as the colossal carrot cake .
Im sorry to say it was anything but colossal. Very slim 2 layed and not very high offering.
The price was around $ 12
They need to change the description to reflect what your actual getting .
I went off my diet to indulge and was so disappointed.

Tried here on our first evening and we were not disappointed .
We opted for the omelettes with home fries as we had eaten on the plane and were not starving . The food was tasty and hot and our server was very chatty , advising us on places to visit . The evening rush did not seem to have started but there was a good take out business.
We came back the next day for dinner and the joint was buzzing . A man beside me recommended the meatloaf and my partner
opted for the chicken , this time with regular fries , again all cooked to perfection. What we really liked here was the atmosphere . Servers did their job with smiles and good humour and never made us feel rushed . We,both had the lemon meringue pie for dessert , huge portions I ,might add .
There was no rushing to give us the bill or to get rid of us , everyone was efficient yet relaxed . I highly recommend this diner .

so good! we came here 3 times while on our trip to toronto since it was just a short walk from our hotel, and the food was great each time! the ambience is lovely, and it was a nice place to just eat and hang out. the breakfast tots were the best thing ever

the breakfast tots were about the same quality as you’d expect from a diner — pretty simple and nothing particularly mind blowing , but reliable and comforting in its own way i suppose . the tots were warm and potato-y, covered by a layer of cheesy scrambled eggs and buttery hollandaise sauce. i don’t usually like ketchup, but the sweetness of the ketchup went really well with the savoury flavours and made it yummier. it’s also a pretty generous mountain of tots — very filling.

it doesn’t look super impressive, but their warm apple pie with ice cream was ASTOUNDING — i literally fell in love at the first bite. the pie crust was thick and buttery (especially the edges) and the vanilla ice cream was so sweet and refreshing against the warmness of the pie. the filling was gooey — with a surprising salty taste(?) — with slices of super tart and soft apples, and a good cinnamon flavour. maybe a bit overpowering, but the ice cream and pie crust balanced it out.

Fran’s is always a great choice for classic diner food. Basic, warm and well prepared. Love the breakfasts and classic lunches. One of the few places left downtown that you can get some of these menu items. At this location the service is great. The food is what you expect and always enjoyable. Old school dinner tables/booths. This location is also very convenient just off Yonge. Near the subway. This time was a rainy day and was craving some meatloaf. Perfect warm meal. Well worth dropping in.

I enjoyed the vibe, the waiter was amazing. You can tell they're extremely overworked, and yet they were still nice! Honestly the food wasn't the greatest experience. Their honey mustard sauce is just toasted sugar. No taste of honey or mustard. It was too sweet. The pie was good tho the crust was a little too gummy. But the ice cream was a 10/10. I may come back and try other things, the ribs were great!

Well, I'm not sure I'll be back again soon :(

I've been coming to fran's for almost 10 years specifically for their chicken and waffles. They have always been white meat & boneless and I loved the seasoned batter they used. Perfect flavour combos and easy to gobble up.

I hadn't been able to visit for a while as my brother has been very sick, but took the time to go today as a treat. The menu listing didnt seem to indicate anything had changed, but when we were brought our food, we learned they swapped boneless chicken breasts for bone-in dark meat (1 drumstick and 1 thigh).

It seems silly but we were so disappointed. My partner decided to keep their order anyways but our server was kind enough to let me order something else. It seems like it has much less actual meat now on top of being harder to eat, and it really changes the overall flavour. It also seems the price went up a bit (19.99 now vs i believe 18.99 before) on top of using cheaper meat.

Really, really disappointed. If an option was added to allow patrons to order the old style with boneless breast meat instead I would happily return. But tbh, it's out of my way and we mostly went for the chicken and waffles so I suspect I won't have a reason to return anytime soon.
