After graduating from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, Dr. Smedley earned his medical degree from the Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine in Independence, Ohio, where he served as student director of clinical affairs. Dr. Smedley then completed his residency in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery at Akron General Medical Center, where he became the chief resident during his second year.
