Where do I begin? My wife and I have been wanting to come here for a long time. And now we can’t fathom why we waited so long LOL From the moment we opened the doors of the restaurant, we knew we were in for something special. The smell when we walked in was unbelievable. We were greeted immediately and brought to our counter seats. Before arriving, we were worried the counter seats would be tight, BUT surprisingly we had lots of room and never felt cramped. For our next visit, we will definitely try a regular table, BUT I highly recommend the counter at least once for the experience alone. The service we received by Vivian was absolutely perfect. We will ask for her section when we return if possible because she was amazing. Ok, now to the good stuff - the food. WE WERE BLOWN AWAY! Every item we had was delicious. Our favourites though would have to be the Miami short ribs, Silver needle noodles, calamari and HK French toast. All absolute 10’s! We are already planning our 2nd trip down to Kensington. 5 star. Don’t think - RUN!

I'm from Toronto and Sunny's is one of my favourite restaurants. Reservations highly recommended. Yhe restaurant is tucked away behind a few shops on the street, feels like a speak easy. The service is great and very knowledgeable, the vibe is impeccable with modern diner-like decor and cozy comfortable lighting. If you're dining solo you get a small amuse bouche to start and you can order half portions of most dishes to try more things!

I had the cold tofu skins salad (delicious), orange chicken, silver needle noodles, and HK toast woth balck sesame for desert is always great. The salad was surprisingly my favorite, light but super flavourful.

Loved our entire experience here!

Foremost, the staff here are incredible. The absolute best service I've ever experienced in that every staff member worked together to create an experience that felt like a well oiled machine. We had our main server who despite being fairly new to the place was well knowledgeable and friendly. And we've definitely noticed how every single other staff were extremely attentive of our table and others and would be steps ahead to clear the table, set utensils for the next course, fill water to our cups, etc. absolutely seemless and very very smooth. Hats off to everyone who works here. Incredible team!

As for the food, it was really well done. It was modernized Chinese dishes that were well executed to be true to its roots but was also very beginner friendly for anyone who wanted to try Chinese food and in a elevated way.

We tried the tasting menu with dan Dan noodles from a la carte menu. And it did not disappoint at all. If there is anything, I wished we would've gotten the full French toast than a half since it's two people for chefs tasting menu. That was the only small disappointment.

Otherwise, the decor and atmosphere were wonderful. I loved how they had hangers at every table, even at bar seatings so you can hook your bags and jackets. The small panda chopstick holders resting in different positions were so cute.

Highly recommend this place to anyone!! A great place for gathering or a date night. Reservations strongly recommended.

ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS lives up to the hype, well deserved Michelin. The flavor profiles were amazing, if I were to close my eyes and think of the taste, the dish tastes like that. The only complaint is that I couldn’t eat more!
The service fantastic, lovely staff, kind and very accommodating.
The ambiance can be both fun and romantic, felt very cozy and comfortable.

We tried the tasting menu $88 per person and added half portions of the orange chicken and beef ribs total with tax tip was about $290. The food was good and the service was great but I agree that this restaurant is overhyped.

Tried Sunny Chinese after seeing a lot of influencer recommendations. Overall, it was good, but personally I don’t think it completely lived up to the hype.

The orange chicken was decent, but nothing particularly special or memorable for me. We also tried the husband and wife noodles, and while I can see why some people enjoy it, all I could really taste was the spiciness overpowering the other flavors.

The highlight of the meal was definitely the black sesame toast and honestly my favorite dish and the one thing I’d come back for. The atmosphere and location in Kensington Market are still nice though, so it’s worth trying at least once if you’re curious.

Sunny’s Chinese absolutely lives up to the hype. The hidden entrance sets the tone right away.

The flavors are bold, creative, and full of personality. We had the dry‑fried pork ribs, Dan Dan noodles, silver needle noodles, orange chicken, black pepper beef, jasmine rice, and cabbage, plus the Blackbird HK French Toast and daily soft serve to finish. Every dish hit a different note, rich, spicy & bright.

The space is lively and a little chaotic in the best possible way, and the staff keep the energy fun and welcoming. It’s the kind of place where you finish one dish already excited for the next. A must‑visit in Kensington Market.

it was Mimi’s chinese restaurant we went to that got our attention to Sunny’s. Very discreet signage at the front, you will never know that inside is a beautifully decorated restaurant that is very busy. When walking into the restaurant, it feels like you are a part of a secret society.

The items on the menu are reasonably priced.we got the Mapo tofu, black pepper beef, charred cabbage with cumin seasoning and vinegar, Dan dan noodles and for dessert was french toast with black sesame spread.
The food came very quickly after placing the order. portions of the dishes are meant for 2-3 people depending on how much of one thing you want to eat. So in and out of the restaurant in about an hour and fifteen minutes.

overall i would rate this restaurant 4.5 out of 5. the Menu lacks options but makes up for in quality. just wished they had a few more things to select from.

Our party of 4 went there for a special occasion on a Thursday night. in fact some of us had been there before with mixed opinions but felt another visit was warranted. If you didn't know it was a Chinese restaurant you wouldn't know it by the decor. Not necessarily a negative. The dishes we ordered were for the most part quite tasty, but for the prices charged, the food and small portions were a letdown. The service was slow and inattentive.

I seems that so many of these celebrity type restaurants are closing down. Why?? That's the big question. With some restaurants "celebrity" seems to go to the chefs' heads. The prices are too high for what you get. The trendiness wears off. They close down and open elsewhere with a different theme...that repeats itself. In fact, look up some of Toronto's noted chefs and the various restaurants they have opened and closed.

As for Sunnys Chinese....Chinese food is some of the least expensive to prepare in terms of cost of ingredients and the time to prepare each dish, yet Sunnys seems to think otherwise. Yes, upcharge from what a Swatows would charge, but the price and portions at Sunnys are not in line.

Even though it has a Bib Gourmand recognition as a restaurant with good food at moderate prices, I don't think Michelin meant small streetfood portions at moderate prices.

As with other such restaurants, the trendiness will pass as its customer base seeks something else, and it may not have enough oompf to continue.

My absolute favorite restaurant in Toronto. Ive been around 10 times in the past few years, and I am always amazed at how consistent and creative the food is. Beyond classics like the dan dan noodles and orange chicken, there is always something new and exciting on the menu! But the best thing on the menu by far is the black sesame toast and their soft serve, which is a must get every time. The vibe of the restaurant is also unmatched and perfect for a date night or celebration, and the service is also wonderful. Highly recommend and I LOVE Sunnys!!!

Recently visited Sunny’s Chinese, and finding the place felt a bit like solving a mystery. The restaurant is located all the way down a hallway, and the sign is literally just a piece of cardboard, so it almost feels like you’re not supposed to find it — but that’s part of the charm.

There were only two of us, but we ended up ordering quite a lot because we wanted to try different dishes. In total, we ordered four dishes, a dandan noodle, a bowl of rice, and two drinks. The table is quite small, so once all the food arrived it became very crowded.

We ordered dandan noodles, pork belly, squid, mapo tofu, and black pepper beef. Overall, the food tasted good and the flavors were solid.

I would especially recommend the dandan noodle, the pork belly (if you like the fattier parts of the meat), and the black pepper beef. These dishes stood out the most to me and were definitely the highlights of the meal. Overall, it would be a pretty good Chinese restaurant to check out if you want to try Chinese food.

This place is amazing!! We had a fantastic dinner at the kitchen counter. If we weren’t out of towners, we’d want to be regulars. The dishes we had were top notch: winter greens, silver needle noodles (great comfort food on a cold evening), chargrilled cabbage (hot and spicy and complex) and the black cod, which stole the show for at least one of us—that is, until dessert! Their famous French toast cannot be skipped but it must be ordered together with the soft serve ice cream for the simple reason that the mashup is divine. The staff were kind and attentive but never intrusive. The recommendation of the blood orange rosé was spot on. Perfectly matched with our order. The ambiance was cool and cozy, if perhaps a touch loud. All told, this was a phenomenal dining experience, recommend 100%.
