I have seen some negative comments about Hunter Creek Inn to which I am very surprised. My husband and I stayed there on our Honeymoon in August and had and excellent stay. It is a great "get-a-way" spot. The service was great and the owners were very friendly and accomidating. Meals were fantastic and you could not have asked for better food.

We enjoyed ourselves so much that we booked another weekend this winter. Minden is a great spot and easy to get to and no 400 driving. A nice easy drive. We found lots to do and plenty of fun in the area. Everything that you could possibly think to do is available. It was so peaceful and quiet, I hated to come back to the city. It is also easy to connect to Bracebridge and other surrounding towns.

Had a great time and if we can't get back again this winter, we will be there again this summer for at least a week!

Go and enjoy this wonderful place....you will love it!

Having been to Hunter Creek Inn on a couple of occasions (the last time being in November of last year - 2007), my wife and I fulheartedly reccommend this country Inn for anyone wishing to get away for the weekend or for an even long get away.

The first thing that you'll notice about Hunter Creek Inn is the solitude it provides; situated well off the main highway the peace and tanquility of the place is very relaxing. The second thing you'll notice is the relaxed, welcoming manner of the proprietors; Bill and Kim were very approachable and made sure that our stay was a memorable one.

The accomodations were surprising spacious for a country inn and the whirlpool tubs and fireplaces that are in each cottage or room of the inn were one of my wife's favourite features. The beds were certainly more comfortable than many I've slept on in other venues and the rooms/cottages were emaculate (which really pleased my better half who is a bit of a self-declared clean freak).

The fact that we had the option of cooking our own meals or having meals in the dining room was a nice option... in the past we've stayed at cottages where we had to cook all meals ourselves or in Inns were we had to either eat in their dining room or go out to a local restaurant. We opted to eat some meals in the dining room (great homecooked meals by the way with big portions) and to cook some in our cottage. Overall we had great stays at Hunter Creek Inn... as a couple and with our children.

All in all we give our highest reccomendation for Hunter Creek Inn.

Stayed at the Hunter Creek Inn on the weekend and had to write my first motel review ever.

First of all, getting the reservation was a labour. While on the phone with the proprietress, she tried to enter my friend's credit card, not once, twice or thrice, but 4 times. Then she informed her that the card was rejected, and "she must have something wrong with her card". The card had zero balance. After getting someone from the credit card company on the phone for a 3 way conference, the agent told her the reason it has been rejected was that she tried to enter it 4 times, and after the first (accepted and approved) charge, it flagged the others as suspicious, as they were for the same amount and consecutive. The agent tried to explain how to use the card device properly, but the innkeeper was adamant that she knew what she was doing, to the point of becoming hysterical! She opined that there was something wrong with my friend's credit, at which point my friend reminded her that this was a 3-way call, and she was still there....
The credit card company told her it had already been debted, but if she wanted the authorization code, she would have to fax the request on the Inn's letterhead with the transaction number. She would not do that at first because, once again, she knew what she was doing, and my friend was at fault....

Back to the Inn. The water there is contaminated and cannot be used for drinking, washing or brushing. They recommend no bathing at all for children, and only 'short' showers for adults. A reasonable expectation from most hotels? Clean water? If they don't have it, you'd expect to be told UP FRONT. The bar fridge contained one bottle of water to compensate.
No ice machine at the resort, as you shouldn't make ice from contaminated water I guess.
We were a party of 6, my friend and I each have 2 young children, but we were told they had a room "designed for 6", with a separated bedroom with a queen bed, and 2 pull out couches. The couches pulled out to single beds, so the kids were very cramped, in a TINY room with no air conditioning or even air circulation. The fan on the table did a nice job of moving the hot air around though. It was a cool night outside, but we could not coax the air into that area.
The Inn supplies all meals, but we declined to participate, choosing accomodations only, so I can't speak to the food quality or service.
Even though we paid $10 additional for each child, there was a mysterious 10% service charge on the bill, "because of the kids". Sounds like double-billing doesn't it? I would recommend you are aware of ALL charges before going there.
Also, there is NO refund at any time for any reason whatsoever. Their policy. I would never go again just for that reason.
The resort outside is fine, quiet peaceful area, the same amount of mosquitos you'd find anywhere around there, a nice smell from the cedars. Inside smelled like an old folks home though.
The "swimming area" at the "beach" was 12 feet wide of sand on a very fast moving small tream. There were even whirlpools in the water. After 4 feet it drops off, and you'd be swept away. Did not see anyone swimming at all. I would never have allowed a child into that current anyway.
There was a games room with a decent pool table (adults only) and a small air hockey table.
Due to shifting on the sand and the leaning found in most areas, could not close (Men's) or open (Women's) the jammed doors to the public area washrooms. Men's had no TP.

Overall: They do NOT understand at all what customer service is. If you want to go somewhere and be made to feel guilty, this is the place.

I cannot believe that! That sounds terrible. I cannot believe that they would not let you know in advance about the extra charges etc and especially about the contaminated water! Like COME ON! This does not sound like the nice relaxing weekend you were planning on.

Sounds more like prison than vacation! Happy to hear you are back alive :)

I'm just speechless. I was curious to see if anyone else had posted something like this, so I typed "HUNTER CREEK INN minden review" into Google. And your review here on n49 came up #1. Heh heh. Oddly enough, with the search term "HUNTER CREEK INN" minden review, it only came up as #6. Go figure Google.

Anyway, hopefully you've helped someone. Their website doesn't mention anything about no available clean water. I'd think that would be a biggie.
