In the name of my daughter and my own, I would like to extend our most deepest thanks to the Sikh Association of the Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara for welcoming us so warmly in their splendid Sikh Temple on Cordner Street in LaSalle.
My daughter had an homework to do for school for which she needed to take note of the different cult centres in the LaSalle area. When we arrived at the Temple, I simply expected to ask a member to give us the correct name of the Temple, but this kind man (I am sorry I don't have his name, but I hope he will recognize himself) did so much more : he invited us to visit the Temple (something my daughter and I were curious to do for years!), learned us the rites (taking off the shoes, purifying the hands, covering our head), then took us to the community kitchen to share delicious honey sweets and an exquisite warm tea. Then, he walked us through the Temple where we had the chance to admire the beautiful, elegantly-orned prayers'room and the large photo of the Golden Temple. The visit really enriched us and, most of all, my daughter learned the most important lesson of all: no matter our differences, no matter our beliefs and cultures, there is kindness in everyone of us, as long as we keep our eyes wide opened to walk towards it. The lesson was even more obvious that my daughter and I arrived unannounced, and this man certainly came to the Temple without expecting to have to transform himself in a guide. I was always driving by the Sikh Temple with respect for this community that united together to build this jewel. Now, I will drive by with a warmer feeling in the heart. Many, many thanks.
