Best food, authentic taste and best service specially z pretty server ''Ella'' she was helpful. I went there with my Deaf best friend; the restaurant did their best to accommodate our communication need. Try it u will love it 👌😱
I come here whenever I pass through Silver Spring and have no interest in trying any other restaurant. The vegetarian sampler is delicious and the staff are always so kind and clearly proud of the restaurant and their imported authentic Ethiopian ingredients. This is the only restaurant I've ever been to that has vegetarian collard greens and they're so good. Most places the misir wot is my favorite but the shiro here is SO GOOD. We happened to be the first customers of the day this time and got to enjoy the smell of fresh roasted coffee beans right near out table
Nevayt was our waitress and she was so nice and helpful! My family had a great time here, we came from Atlanta with my family from Maryland who has also never been here, and we enjoyed the food and service so much! I will come back when I am in town. :)
On my way to my hotel, my Uber driver told me that I have to try Ethiopian food while I'm here. So naturally, I made my way to Effoi. It was incredibly busy, but the energy and vibe of the place kinda just felt like home. Looking around me, it was clear that many of the people in there were regulars. I ordered the veggie platter and from the first bite, I was blown away. I'm someone who likes to think they have a pretty diverse palette, but today I experienced some new spices and flavors I've never known. Everything was so hearty and filling. I absolutely loved the injera too. My server Ella was very sweet and attentive. Everyone was constantly checking in on me, reminded me of my aunties. My bill was only $23, will definitely be back!
Just GO. Don't even think about it! The flavor of every single thing was absolutely fantastic. Each item has its own unique and delicious flavor, amazing. We couldn't believe they can make so many things and all so good. We got the veggie combo and added 2 meat dishes. You can pick anything and you can't go wrong. Easily the best Ethiopian food I've ever had. The people are super sweet too, and even the other customers were all in good moods. We had the yummy coffee too! Magical place, just go. Can't wait to go back.
Effoi is a must-visit for authentic Ethiopian food. The flavors are bold, the injera is perfect, and every dish is full of heart and tradition. The service is warm and welcoming, staff go above and beyond to make you feel at home. A truly delicious and memorable experience!
This was my first time having Ethiopian food and honestly, it was such a great experience. The vibe of the place was super chill and welcoming, and the food was delicious. Big shoutout to Bana, our server — she was so kind and made us feel right at home. Definitely coming back!
This is the second time my family and I have dined at Effoi. We don’t usually eat out, as we’re quite picky when it comes to finding authentic Ethiopian food. But the experience at Effoi has truly changed that.
The first time I visited, it was during the fasting season, so I went with my two kids and ordered the special vegetable combo. I can't say enough about each dish's variety and depth of flavor—it was a beautiful reminder of my mom's cooking. I was so inspired that I went out and bought some of the ingredients to try and recreate one of her old recipes.
I had to return with my husband just yesterday, and once again, Effoi did not disappoint. The smell of the coffee roasting brought back vivid memories of my mother's house during digs (celebrations). My husband absolutely loved it, and my kids felt so happy and welcomed.
I truly love this place and can’t wait to return for more traditional cuisine after Lent. Effoi has become a special spot for us, both for its food and the feelings it brings back.

The food is some of the best Ethiopian food I've ever had! In the middle is their daily special hilbet. It is a vegan dish that is made from fava beans, fenugreek, lentil, and other spices that are ground into a powder, cooked, and whipped to a cream like texture.

First time trying Ethiopian food and it was an incredible experience. We did the veggie & meat combo, there wasn’t an item on the plate we didn’t love. The service was fantastic and a cozy place.
I plan to come back next time I am on the east coast :)

Silver Spring is known as THE area for solid Ethiopian food. Among the many local areas we've been to, Effoi sits at the top of the list. So glad they finally reopened!
Amazing service, food, and vibes. The super friendly waitress suggested to us the Derek tibs, special veggie combo, and Yebeg tibs - we also highly recommend all of them.
During our dinner, the lady who was making Ethiopian coffee the traditional way, ended up roasting coffee beans and wafting them at each table! We learned that the smell is meant to energize you. Definitely added an additional layer of authenticity to an already incredible experience.
Looking forward to our next visit!
