Courtney received her Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from Michigan State University while also earning minor degrees in Health Promotion and Spanish. After graduating, she worked as a Medical Assistant in a Dermatology practice gaining medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatologic experience. She then went on to obtain her Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Michigan-Flint.
