Brenda is a great trainer and I reccommend her to anyone with any type of dog. She is well respected among the dogs and her owners. She helped me train my first dog, now I am recommending her to train my grand-dog!

I had a golden many years ago and she trained him quickly and efficiently. When I got my boxers (3 of them) I immediately contacted her and went straight through from puppy kindergarten to advanced classes

I was told I had an aggressive boxer (Maggie who is a year old) by another trainer.. Maggie seemed to not like other dogs and since we are getting another boxer pup for Christmas I thought time to get a second opinion.. Oh my God.. Brenda was amazing.. In a hour and a half session.. I have a dog who is not aggressive at all.. just confused..and I am the problem not her. Don't waste your money on other trainers.. She is amazing!!!!!!

I trained my dog with Brenda over 11 years ago. At that time my very naughty and strong german shepherd ruled the house and my life. After the first meeting with Brenda, my dog was changed. I continued to go to lessons for 2 years, not only for obedience training, but also for agility training and friendships. My dog is a part of our family and loves my 4 kids and husband more than anything...she even loves the cats! I thank Brenda for doing her job and not tippy toeing around the dogs, they need to be broken and taught manners. She does just that and I have had an incredible dog for the last 10 years thanks to Brenda. Now with not so many years left in my aging dog, I will definately look Brenda up again for training our new dog, when that day comes. Thanks!

Brenda has done wonders for my pooch. After having a very aggressive and dominate 90lb dog. She made him into the great family dog he is today. Yes she had to use a choke collar on my dog, but guess what not only is he perfect on and off leash now he can't wait to see Brenda. He no longer is dominating other dogs, showing aggression and comes every time he is called when off leash. After dealing with three other trainers she was the only one to get my dog under control and my dog loves her to death! THANK YOU BRENDA FOR DOING SUCH AN AMAZING JOB!

Brenda trained us so that our Newfoundland Dog would be easy to handle. She was wonderful, Danko loves her and she is also the only person I would get to help groom him.
I don't hesitate to tell others with puppies to give her a call.
She is up front and tell it like it is, I guess some people don't like the truth? (James person)
If anything happened to Danko's family, I would trust Brenda totally to make sure that he was well cared for.
Thanks Brenda :) Danko's Mom

I posted this review elsewhere but would like it here as well:

I have 2 huskies, and as any of you who own huskies know, they are stubborn, insubordinate, brats. I say that with love, knowing that they are also incredibly smart, gentle, loving dogs, and I never want to own another breed in my life. However, the truth of the matter is that they learn commands and choose to do them "at their leisure". Brenda set out a plan for us to only give them food/praise when they would complete tasks for several months, thus proving our dominance and forcing them to adhere to a pack mentality instead of doing everything by their rules. It worked. Our dogs now sit, stay, crawl, bow, "leave it", down, stop....every basic command there is.

The other thing they would never do is "come". Huskies NEVER come. They get off leash and run...and run.... and run. One of ours got off-leash in rushhour traffic and ended up in a Pharmasave once after jumping over my husband in the back of our SUV. This prompted our first bout of training with Brenda. Since, I cant say they've been 100% perfect. But there was one specific instance that they pushed 2 doors open and ran around a school (right beside a main road) that comes to mind. I yelled STOP as loudly as possible (just like brenda teaches) and they stopped and lied down.

The only time I ever saw Brenda choke an animal or make it cry out is when it bit someone or another dog. Usually she does this by pulling them back sharply or in the case of biting, she holds down their tongue with her finger, which I think is COMPLETELY reasonable. In the real world that animal could be put to sleep for that kind of behavior.

The real trick I find is (and even with us) Brenda teaching the owners NOT the dogs. People treat their dogs like babies. I've seen a 300lb man that couldn't control a papillon (a 5lb dog) who was barking constantly and biting at his heels. I've seen people protecting their dog when IT bit other dogs. Brenda just wont put up with that, and rightfully so. She treats dogs like dogs. But with fairness and respect. Her dogs are amazing (the decendants of airbud...whom she also owned RIP).

I consider the below review to be completely innaccurate and unfair.

You James My Friend ):

You have obviously not attended any classes at Summerfield Dog Training. I have Know Brenda in her buisness for about 9 years.
She has trained both my Dogs and they love her to bits when they see her. How did you get any information that she uses shock collars. Never never never. Shame on you!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

I respect that everyone is entitled to their own opinion so I will only comment on my own personal experiences with Brenda Layfield.

I have used Branda's services for nearly 10 years. I have brought two dogs to Brenda for training as well as I have boarded my dogs with her when I've had to go out of town. While in her care I found the dogs to be well cared for and would not hesitiate to board them with Brenda again.

I have never seen shock collars being used during classes and have seen choke collars used by all different types of trainers, not only Brenda. On Brenda's suggestion we switched one of our dogs to a prong collar because she was hurting herself by pulling through every other type of collar (flat included)that we had tried. The prong is the ONLY collar our dog hasn't tried to pull through and before someone comments about it I would never do anything that would even remotely cause my dog pain!

I took my dog to her and I am glad I did. my rottie was out of control and if I hadnt found brenda I would never have the dog I have today. my dog loves her and whines when he gets close to training classes. I also use a prong collar as to save my dog from vertabrae problems. it actually is better for them and it doesnt hurt them. I have never seen shock collars. people who talk about her that way have never been to her classes. if you were the least bit mean to your animal near brenda she would take your head off

I recently brought my dog to Summerfield and I found that Brenda was great at helping us with our dog. I did not find that her techniques were bad, actually I found that she was pet friendly and pet smart.
She recommended safe and efficient ways to train my dog from his barking to his aggression. (with no mean tactics or force) And so far we have seen a magnificient difference in him and he is very happy. Everyone who likes Cesar Millan would like Brenda.
I highly recommend Summerfield.

you are as ignorant as they come. dont you think if she was cruel that they would have investigated her. I have taken 2 of my dogs to her and my dogs are not afraid of me just the opposite they wont leave me alone. maybe she should sue you for slanderous comments.
