When a new puppy entered our lives we knew we wanted her to be well-trained and socialized. Our big question was how do we make this happen? We contacted Twilla at Akenside Kennels, she is a true professional and made us feel completely comfortable with her approach to training. After meeting her and visiting her training facility we were very impressed with how clean and organized everything was. We immediately signed up for a puppy kindergarten class.

Twilla and her teams approach to training is simple, straightforward, manageable and enjoyable. We feel confident going forward with the techniques needed to establish good behaviour and habits for our journey with our pup.

In addition to the group classes, private sessions and puppy socials, Twilla and her team are generous with their time and advice answering any questions we have along the way.

Twilla and her team aren’t just training our pup... they are training us too! Thank You!!!

never had the opportunity to board my pet, as my several calls and emails were never returned over a 2 day span of attempting to contact this kennel. Website looks professional and brags about how well run the kennel is......... but they can't return calls??? Hmmmmmmm

Our dog was a regular at Aikenside until we lost him...in fact, sometimes he went for the weekend just to play with his friends! Every time he went, he came back with better manners and his energy expended. Twila treats the dogs as members of the family and goes WAY above and beyond to accommodate the customer. Our new dog is 9 weeks old and we're hoping she'll welcome a puppy!!

We used to take our Dogs there it was sold this year new owners seem not so much into running the kennel .First time that our dogs have had hot spots.Would not recommend .Old owners seemed more in tune with dogs needs.Runs are in bad shape.Dog need to have there collars off but they do not shut all doors when getting dogs out of kennel.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not suggesting your review is based on falsehoods but I have been taking my dogs to Akenside Kennels for over 10 years. In fact, due to some of our dogs passing from cancer and old age, we have had a total of 8 dogs visit this kennel on a regular basis.

My experience was completely different from yours. 1) Stephanie hardly had a personality and was often abrupt and cold toward us and our dogs. We only kept going their because it was familiar to our pets and they appeared no worse for wear. Twilla and her staff are always smiling and greet our dogs with warmth. She has even given us several suggestions to help with problems we were having at home. She broke down in tears when I called to tell her that our "Chancey" had passed away. This is not the behavior of someone who is "not so much into running a kennel".

2) Regarding the doors and collars. She explained to us that the collars must come off because she doesn't ever want a dog to be injured by gettint hung up on something. As far as the doors being closed, she wouldn't let us go into the next area until the currently open door was shut and bolted. One one occassion, she and kim went down with us to settle the dogs in and she made us stand at the inner door until Kim had latched the gate. They acted as if this was normal operating proceedure and we felt an added sense of security.

3) As far as hot spots go... those can occur if your dog has bad matting or many other reasons. Our shepherd cross constantly dumps his water and rolls in it. Just an odd behavioir of his. We are constantly battling hot spots with him because he will dump it on the floor and lay in it until we return from home. Hot spots can occur for many reasons.

4) I've seen the kennels....on many occassions...throughout the years. That doesn't happen in one year! It is showing signs of many years of wear. It is 20 yrs old. New owners can't be faulted for that. It is always kept tidy and clean.

We have left our pets here on multiple occasions and have had terrific results. Our dog was clean, comfortable and well occupied. The runs are safe and clean, the owners provide feedback at pick up and truly seem to care about our pets.
