I have been trained as a psychiatrist, as an art therapist, and as a Jungian analyst. I have been in practice for over 30 years. With the attitude that each individual is unique in his or her experience, I focus on the value of that uniqueness and encourage the development of individual solutions to the problems and suffering that individuals bring into treatment. I recognize that people do not seek help for their psychological difficulties easily and that the process of psychotherapy requires taking risks that often feel daunting. Living in a culture which does not place a very high value on psychological growth and development increases the feeling of vulnerability an individual experiences when venturing into the realm of psychological discovery, of discovering aspects of oneself that have been lost to awareness. Anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, problems in relationships and with the use of substances can all be seen as manifestations of unsuccessful attempts to adapt to both the outer world of collective demands and the inner world of oneĆs own individual feelings and needs. Being healthy in the world means balancing the needs for individuality with needs to be part of the collective world. In working with patients, I recognize that if simple solutions had worked, there would be no need to seek my help. My commitment to those who choose to work with me is to make every effort to provide the safety needed for the individual unconscious wholeness to emerge, as I believe it is seeking to do in each of us. Paying attention to dreams as well as to other expressions of unconscious processes that arise in the relationship between us helps us to understand how the wholeness of an individual is seeking to be lived. The more each of us is able to be true to himself or herself, the less problematic our symptoms will become.
