I have facial sensitivity issues and during migraine episodes I can't tolerate even slight pressure from my glasses. Dexter's Optical has fewer style choices than some places, but their technical expertise with optics and fit adjustment is fantastic. I've been getting glasses from them for years, and won't go anywhere else.

Dexter is always straight to the point and makes sure that every last detail is taken care of. Always an easy recommendation.

It has been one year now since I purchased my glasses at Dexter Optical. They were distributors for the frames I prefer and I was initially impressed by their store layout. I first dealt with the colleague of Dexter and was quoted a price for frames and lenses but on my return to the store, I was served by the owner, Dexter. He went over my options and gave me another quote for frames and lenses lower than his partner by at least a couple of hundred dollars (different lense option). I was looking forward to having my high prescription progressive lenses (Zeiss brand) in my preferred frames and having the best vision possible. When I returned for my initial fitting the lenses were still marked up by the optical lab and needed to be cleaned (this just indicated to me that they weren't examined by the store before being shown to me). Immediately, I felt there was something 'off' in the script and I felt the need to tilt my head up or down to get the 'sweet spot' in the progressive lense for the distance I was viewing. I mentioned this to Dexter's colleague and he went to see Dexter. Dexter himself didn't come to deal with it himself but he was the one who did all the measurements, et cetera. Dexter's colleague spent some time re-fitting the frame on my face but did nothing to re-measure my pupil distance or anything else that might have made a difference to my vision. As I said, I have used the lenses for almost a year now and while they do the job they are far from what could be done if they had been done over with my optical needs front and center. I have been using progressives for decades and have always been highly myopic so I know my vision requirements. As well, I noticed that one of the lenses was abraded in a corner (out of the line of vision) when it was being ground to fit into the frames (this is something they do in-store so it is Dexter's responsibility to turn out a finished product free from defects). It would be no financial burden to the store to return the lenses to the Zeiss lab for another attempt; not every first attempt is successful especially if some of the fitting measurements are off. Any optician should be able to do a simple lense fitting but you need a real professional to do the difficult ones and when they aren't correct on the first try, then they need to act professional and have them done again. In short, I am sure there are satisfied customers but if you have even a hint of a problem don't expect a consumer friendly response from this vendor. Shop elsewhere where you know your complaints will be dealt with in a professional manner.

I say a silent "thank you" to Dexter when I put my glasses on every morning. Not only is the prescription perfect, they are thinner and lighter than all my previous glasses. I have had compliments on them from family, friends, customers and total strangers. (He, along with my husband, spent probably an hour giving me choice after lovely choice - I could have closed my eyes and pointed, and have been happy with any one of them.) My husband has been going to Dexter for years and when it became apparent that I would have to forever give up my contacts, there was no question as to where to go. I did something I cannot remember ever having done before when exiting a store - I felt I had to give him a great big hug to say "thank you" for all the time and support he gave me. I certainly left with a spring in my step. Dexter - don't EVER retire! I will send everyone I know to him. He's a gem and fabulous at what he does.
