A Nest Of Snakes
The facility is nice and the residents are awesome, but the staff have the maturity of high school students. Every unit has it's own very petty politics and way of doing things. New hires are treated as inferior, are expected to automatically know routines and residents individual care, and are criticized without being given any guidance. If a new hire takes time to look up the information, they are reported for being slow. If they ask for help they are reported as being incompetent. Some staff have even been known to actively try to get other staff fired for childish things such as accidental wardrobe malfunctions or for things that they themselves actually did. A few of the staff are okay, but the majority of them will smile in your face while gossiping and spreading malicious rumors about you behind your back. It is nothing short of slander. If you have any modicum of self respect and would like to be in a professional and teamwork oriented environment do not work in this nest of snakes.

A resident's view
For the most part the staff is caring and kind. Unfortunately they are often short staffed making it difficult for both staff and residents. A major complaint is the food. They need to have a kitchen staffed with people who are able to put some love into the food. Fresh seasonal vegetables are never served and the frozen ones are mushy. Too much processed deli meat is served.
I would leave in a minute except I need long term care and really doubt that I could find a better place. Perhaps if I had dementia I wouldn't care so much! I'm grateful I have a sure hope for the future.

A comfortable place!
Recently my mother in law was placed at Roberta Place. Previous to going in she was terrified at the idea but it was no longer possible for her to stay with us as she required 24/7 care. We visited the site a couple of times and she felt a little less afraid each time we went in. She has been there for about a month there and she is soo happy and comfortable there. She loves the staff, the food and the activities, especially the outings. The only thing that could be different is the set up of the rooms to allow more privacy in between residents. Otherwise Wonderful!

To the person who wrote the review Sept 28th, 2011, I don't know why you have had such a bad experience at Roberta Place but it. My Father has lived there for 6 years and I have been impressed with quality of care and compassion that I see the staff give everyday. I visit almost everyday and have seen the staff caring for lots of people and not once in 6 years have I seen or heard of any problems like yours. I talk to lots of other family members and they are all happy for the most part. Many have moved their family members here from other homes and tell me that Roberta Place outshines the other ones. To the staff on Home area 2-thank you for taking such good care of my dad and making it easy for me to go home at night knowing my dad is in good hands.

I work at Roberta's Place for some time now, and I find it a great place to work. I became close to some of the residents and their families. The staff take their pride to look after the residents for any needs they may need

Roberta Place Long term care, Barrie Ontario
This nursing home seems ill-equipped to deal with the elderly, even though, this is their business, horrible food, not enough fluids, leaving residents with limited mobility sitting on toilets for 20 min. after they ring for assistance. Calls to family when patient is over-medicated and suffering from personality changes. Not able to recognize a heat rash from a reaction to an antibiotic, did not see that resident was suffering from a bladder infection, family pointed it out. Never cleaned under a chair that was in the room, water was out of reach to patient with limited mobility, stated that this was patients home and therefor patient should have choices even if they are not making sound choices, no dietary controls even when there are issues such as diabetes, I am very upset by what I saw at this facility and feel more has to be done for the elderly, my Mother is now dying in hospital, where she is better off, they were going to send her back to this enviornment, and we had to speak up on her behalf and be on top of the situation constantly. I don't know how this situation will be fixed, but if you know someone in care, assume nothing and be ever watchful. To be fair I did meet three individuals who did seem to have a measure of compassion.

Excellent place to learn and grow
I was recently a student on placement at the Roberta Place back in August. I had a wonderful teacher, (Thanks Violetta) and a great experience, I’ll never forget. The staff are amazing, supportive, and well knowledgeable, also the clients are unforgettably wonderful and I miss them all very much.

Worked there for a long time...
I have worked at Roberta Place since a little after it opened and am still here almost 10 years later for a reason. The home itself is always clean and beautifully decorated. Everyone tries hard to make it more like a "home" for everyone who lives there. If I had to put a loved in a nursing home, I would definately choose Roberta Place. My work colleuges are all very caring and kind.I look forward to going to work everyday.

I too work at Roberta Place. I find the atmosphere to be very positive. The management team is supportive, and the front line staff give excellent care. Certainly a home that I would place a loved one in.

Roberta Place Barrie
I have a relative residing in Roberta Place Barrie. His personal space is well appointed. The staff is attentive. The food is excellent. Acitivites could be better.

Concerned Relative
Absolutely poor care. Too many managers and not enough care workers. Clearly most interested in profit. Resident care is a distant second - meeting only minimum government standards. They do not strive for superior care.
