The reviews I read are disturbing and hard to believe but I see they are old. My father has been there for about a year. I find the staff amazing. They are constantly on the go doing a most difficult job. People there need almost 1 on 1 attention at times and this is not possible. The staff communication has been beyond my expectations. They inform me about everything. My father is always clean shaven, and with clean clothes. The meals are well balanced and healthy. I am nothing less than comforted to know my father is there.

My husband went here a couple of months ago after having suffered a stroke which robbed him of his cognitive ability. He is in a ward as that is all we can afford on disability pensions. The room is quite crammed and small, and truthfully it should only be 3 beds in this room at the maximum.

My hubby is a fussy eater (meat and potatoes) but he likes the food here which is a bonus. There are quite a few activities for the residents, including bingo 3 times a week which my husband quite enjoys going to. Also a movie shown on Sunday afternoons.

The PSWs, nurse and other staff are superb - I cannot fault them in the least. They are very caring towards the residents. If I had to fault the place on anything, it is the lack of available staff during meal times. There does appear to be a shortage of PSWs on the floor - and I can understand budgets, but if someone needs help while in the washroom, I have had to go tracking someone down a couple of times to help. Also there seems to be at least 2 people on his floor with dementia (one being a screamer), and I do wish there was another floor devoted to the care of these individuals.

Other than that - a 4 star review.

what a dump.this place is filthy all the time.broken bathrooms, obvious neglect of clients.saw my uncle today,he's 84 and has chronic bladder infections.asked the nurse to have the inhouse doctor check him as he could not urinate and was in a great deal of pain. it was friday and i was told they would check him monday?why?they did check him friday after i insisted.there is a total lack of compassion.most of the staff are old and jaded it would seem.i was fooled by the warm greeting.i should have asked more questions.i should have talked to the clients.my uncle is leaving there asap before they kill him.

I am power of attorney for an elderly lady, who is residing quite happily on the second floor, at
Carlingview Manor. In the past, I will admit, there were some difficulties, and their reputation suffered.
BUT, the staff and ownership have worked really hard to improve the facility, and the care that has been
given. My elderly lady has been a resident since December 2015, and I am extremely happy and more
importantly my friend is happy. She has a private room, which is kept immaculately clean, she is
kept immaculately clean, she loves the staff, and has her favourites. It is, at the best of times, a difficult
job dealing with dementia patients, but I think , and have observed, nothing but happy faces, and care
and attention to my friend. I have been kept up to date on her care, for which I am thankful. They have
re-instituted a Family Council, which is a great step in sharing concerns, and information for all of
us who have a loved one we care about whose home is now Carlingview . The staff are doing a very
difficult job that most of us can't do , or don't want to do. Let us support the staff instead of throwing
brick bats!!!

On a recent visit to our loved one, we were shocked to find another patient walking up and down the halls massaging her own feces with her hands rubbing it on her face and neck.
She also was touching the banister and wall and tried desperately to give us a hug as we walked pass her. I ran to find a worker and showed her from near the desk what was happening, and asked her for her help ... She snickered and asked me if I had seen the man with the oversized peed diaper that needed changing. She then walked toward her said something and walked away leaving that poor woman in all her filth to continue walking. I then found another worker who did take time go check her out. I took my loved one to the main floor. I was sickened by this incident and the deplorable way it was handled. They appear to be extremely understaffed on this floor with over 40 patients to 5 health care workers. There is a terrible stench in the halls and a lot of patients sitting unattended. We are waiting on another home I pray my family member is moved soon before it is too late. If you love your family member this is not the place for you.

Get your father out of there if you can! We were told we had not choice because our mother was an emergency placement so we had to take the room or be put at the bottom of the list for placement, one of many threats..anyways we had her on other lists but nothing was coming up quick enough for her so we were jammed in this disgusting place. Not being racist here but please explain to me how someone with dementia is suppose to understand someone who can barely and I mean barely speak or communicate english to my parent. We asked them not to send a male psw to change her or to do any of her personal hygene, only female. What do they do, send in a male, she became aggressive, biting, kicking etc..then they wanted to medicator because of her aggression...unreal. This place is an absolute pig pen, many times we had to wipe feces off mother's chair and floor, mop floors in her room on the weekend because staff were so damn lazy to clean it up. I could go on and on about this place, it just makes me so darn mad to think what she was going through when we were not there. Please stick to your guns and do not let your parent leave hospital until your choice of home has come up, it is their human right to have a choice, I wish I had known before we had placed her here.
The government should be ashamed of themselves for letting our elderly parents be subject to such a deplorable place. I cannot beleive they pass their inspections and get funding...our elders and our tax dollars paying for absolute disgusting treatment..wow something for us to look forward too, heres hoping we never need to go into this joint

Really sad and not at all impressed, with the environment. 4 to room in some instances, heartbreaking. You think there would be some kind of Fire Code "capacity" per square footage. It is UN believable to corral people in this way. Remember folks this is long-term care, not a slumber party. It is “living quarters”. What is next, bunk beds? Deplorable…. I can only hope the transfer comes through and have our loved one out of there. How I pray!!

My father has been thrown into the wonderful Carlingview Manor. The place is dirty, stinks like a barn yard and the care given is poor at best. In my books, a half star rating is too high!

Well...after many years of convincing Mom to go into a nursing home where she could get the proper care she needed she finally agreed...not exactly thrown in however she was there in less than two weeks...it was not her first choice but she accepted and now she is there....family assured me the place is fine but as Mom can do she told me her initial feelings...this place was sooo dirty...have yet to see it for myself but first impressions are lasting ones unfortunately...just had to let you know that its not just your imagination..turtlejan

I am not sure yet. I wish the conglomerate of Nursing Homes would have direct websites.
We have to take care of our elders, and some of us are out of town.
For nursing homes not to have direct websites and directories is inflammatory for today's current users of the web and looking out for our Relatives.
