Do not shop at The Red Shark in Trenton Ontario, on Dundas St. The owner takes advantage of young people who do not know much about suits and makes you think you’re getting the best deal when you’re not. My boyfriend and I were referred to The Red Shark and knew nothing about how much a tux should cost, or any deals that were being held at this location. We went in looking to rent a suit as we knew it would be cheaper and didn’t see much reason to own a suit besides prom. As we walked in we thought we were in for a good deal when we saw everything was 50% off. Our first question to the owner was whether or not they rented suits, to which he responded “You can rent a suit for $200..or own a suit for $300”. $300 was completely in our budget and that sounded quite a bit better! After everything we picked out the total came to $477..not in our budget, but we figured we were in good hands and everywhere else must be more expensive (since we knew so little). We left the store, and my mom notified us that it was in fact too expensive, and we would be better off borrowing a suit or finding somewhere cheaper. She also notified us that she saw on the stores Facebook page that they had a deal on: “$179 to rent a suit-everything included (shoes, tie, cuffs, etc)— this was not something we were told even when I asked about renting suits. So, we immediately returned to the store, apologized for all the inconvenience, but we realized it just wasn’t in our budget and we’ve made a mistake. He told us everything is final sale, and that the things we bought that were not on sale could only be exchanged with another item or a store credit. He said there is absolutely no refunds, and if it was on sale, you can't exchange it at all. YOU NEVER GET YOUR MONEY BACK—AND NOWHERE CAN YOU BE INFORMED OF THIS BESIDES A LITTLE PIECE OF PAPER BEHIND HIS DESK (it’s not on his website, and he does not tell you). I told him that we looked on his Facebook and saw that he had a deal on that we were not told about.. I still thought that maybe he could help us out. He told us we could order ANOTHER suit with this deal..which makes no sense and now I was getting agitated. I explained to him that I felt slightly cheated that this information was not given to me when I previously asked about it, but he still offered no solution for us. He repeatedly told us that he DOES INFACT HAVE THE DEAL. He would not give me a solid response, and couldn’t find the right words. He kept saying that he only answers questions that are asked of him. He rudely told us he can’t write a book about all the sales and policies he has. We pointed out that the return policy HE DOES HAVE is on a little piece of paper behind the desk (we didn’t see or were told about before we purchased). Anywhere you shop you are told when something you buy is final sale, he is sneaky and leaves these sorts of things out. He knew that we were looking for a suit for prom, knew we were young and took advantage of all this. He led us right in the direction of spending more money instead of informing of us of a great deal. He repeats that he thought buying the suit would be better for us, and that’s why he didn’t tell us about the deal. He even began making up things that I said that never came out of my mouth. The man is a cheat, and cares more about money than the customer! If you want a good suit, do not expect honesty or general good problem solving from The Red Shark! In no way did he want to resolve the problem or even admit to his mistake...even when we went back again with my mother so that she could try to explain to him that we were young and there must be a misunderstanding somewhere. When he continued to be rude and stubborn, she told him that we would make sure we shared his policies (that he has failed to share with any of his costumers—besides the little paper behind the desk) on Facebook. He told us “make sure you spell everything right”. I have no doubt in my mind that there aren’t other customers out there who have been swindled like we have. Do not shop here!
The owner has poor business ethic and has no problem ripping off his customers. I recently bought 2 shirts and a pair of shorts during his buy one and get two free sale. I was charged for the most expensive item which I expected and considered normal. I was charged $98 for a polo shirt and the other two items which were another shirt at $79 and a pair of shorts at $65 were the free part of the deal. I returned the next day to exchange the $98 shirt because the neck was too tight. I found another shirt at $79 which I wanted to exchange to. The owner told me that this wasn't a problem and said good day. When I asked about a reimbursement for the difference in cost the owner said that he doesn't do that and wasn't about to compensate me at all for the difference in price. I tried to reason with him and explain why this was wrong but he didn't agree. He said that if I picked that shirt out the day before then I would have only been charged the $79. So now I ended up paying $98 for a $79 shirt. nThis store should be avoided at all costs.
