When I moved into my new apartment it was very clean. Thank you Joeanne!
Great maintenance people at Brock King. With a special thank you to Norm and Pharem for their kindness and professionalism.
I love my new apartment!!!!
With all new places a few things needed to be repaired and they are being worked on.

Couldn’t ask for a nicer view! The building is very quiet and Joeanne keeps it spotless. The grounds are always groomed and that is just what I had hoped for. Hope to be here for many years to come.

Hi. I would just like to make a couple comments.
First and foremost I would like to thank Theresa and Terrie at 710 SirJohn A McDonald for their time, help and promptness with my application for my soon to be new home.
As I read the last review from Oct 2017 regarding Theresa I could only think this must be another Theresa from perhaps another city. This is NOT the Theresa I met or that helped me find my new home.
When I first met Theresa she was professional and kind and smiled often and I recall actually having a few laughs with this lady.
After she took the time to do a viewing with me at one building she was aware that this was not what I was looking for. She took the time to listen to my desires of what I wanted. She listened and she delivered by showing me exactly what I had asked for and the very next day too. Hardley the women I see described in the earlier review.
I’m wondering if perhaps they may have been having a bad day themselves and hope their day and circumstance’s have gotten better.

I look forward to my freshly refinished apartment in the near future and would just like to say, Thank you to both Theresa and Terrie for a job well done!
Although I have never rented from Brock King in the past, if my apartment is as polished as these two ladies where I will be sure to put that in a future review as well. We always hear the bad things when their is so much good that is not relayed!

Thank You again ladies
Brock King is lucky to have you

Theresa in the office at 710 Sir John A is awful to deal with. Her people skills are demeaning, judgemental, intimidating, & unethical . I unfortunately had to deal with her recently about applying for an apartment. She came across very frustrated & angry, the lady I was with who works in public relations was appalled with her attitude towards me & other clients that were also in the office waiting to be served. I thought she was maybe having a bad day, however I've had a couple of interactions with her reguarding an apartment I WAS interested in & each time her disgruntle attitude was the same.
At this point I still haven't heard back about the apartment & have decided to go with anyone else as long as it's not a Brock-King apartment.
Thanks Theresa I hope your happy with yourself. I don't know what horse you rode in on, but one day you will come across the wrong person, if you keep treating clients with that snobby attitude of yours. People like you have no business working in public relations. Time to move on, obviously you hate your job & it shows.
I was a house owner propert owner plus some, we all go through hard times, that's why I'm looking for an apartment,. I'm falling through hard enough times right now as it is. However you made me feel even worse about my situation the minute I walked into that office, how dare you look down at me, shame on you. Hopefully hard times don't knock you down because obviously you have no idea how it feels if you did you wouldn't treat others on a day to day basis the way you do.

DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR AND RENT FROM HOMESTEAD OR SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! Seriously, the building at 700 Sir John A. MacDonald is infested with mice. I just threw out my 4th mouse that I caught in a trap that my father had to set for me a couple of hours ago. The super said they "don't deal with that" and the office staff (who are the most ignorant, rudest, unprofessional people I've ever met) won't even let me in the lobby of the office building to fill out a work order to deal with the problem in my apartment. Apparently the building is overrun with them and the pest control people can't seem to get a handle on the situation. Thank goodness for my cat who has already caught a mouse, I know they won't get too far but they are in my cupboards and under my stove which is where I'm setting the traps. I'm so disgusted, if I had the money for first/last month's rent and money for movers I would be out of here so fast. They make you jump through hoops to get one of these crappy-assed places to be plagued by mice. Avoid Brock King at all costs!

I wish to make it perfectly clear that Brock and King is the worst rental company I have ever dealt with and I have been a renter since seventeen years old.
I still reside in this "poop hole" and wish to share my experience.
First, the application. It asks you for your banking information detailed to the average amount in the account, social insurance number, and other very personal unrelatable nonsense.
I simply refused many portions of the application and informed the office I would not hesitate to bring legal action against the company if I was denied for any illegitimate reasons regarding non compliance with their absurd requests. (Should have just went elsewhere).
After being approved I was asked if I would now submit my SIN number as I had refused on the application. I asked her to tell me what they could possibly need it for and if they could tell me I would gladly give it. She refused to tell me. I in turn refused to provide it.
Once they had my references from my current landlord and employer along with a letter of employment for wage I received a call from them asking if I could get something from my landlord with some type of letterhead to prove that is indeed who she was. Perhaps from her employer.
What? They asked me to provide more information to them to prove I hadn't used a friend for a reference under false pretences? After they spoke to her.. Wtf right? What are the point of references? Do we now need references for references?
After filling out the application, seeing the apartment and being approved I was informed the unit I had inspected was rented. Wait, what? Someone else had "beat me to it". In one day? Ok.
To the next unit. It was literally the unit two doors down that would be available. Ok, I'll take it.
Even pre-approved I had to wait and schedule a viewing a week later.
I was informed that the washer and dryer came with the unit but I would be responsible for the repairs if they broke. Umm, pardon? I informed her that what she just stated was against the law and they either did or did not provide them with the unit and if they did they were fully responsible under the law. I skipped the headache as I had my own units and asked them to have theirs removed.
During the initial showing I asked the superintendent what an expected average utility/hydro bill would be. The superintendent showing me the unit lived in the same rental units and informed me a typical bill was around $200 per month. After moving in three days earlier than the first of the month ( and charged for every day early) I was to be informed an average hydro bill was $300/month and regularly upwards of $400+. I confronted the superintendent about the discrepancy. Her answer to me was "I am instructed to lie to tenants as to not discourage them from renting and I apologize ."
Seriously? Just wow. A week into my rental I called the super concerning parking. I was told by the company and by the superintendent to park at my leisure as there were no assigned spaces. I had been left nasty notes by other tenants and confronted at my door by multiple tenants about parking in "their" spots. The phone was answered by the super under belief I was someone else answering the phone with "Hey hon, you guys coming over to smoke one? It's all ready to go."
After an awkward laugh and a quick to the point conversation I was told many people had adopted spots after being assigned them over a decade earlier but the spots were no longer assigned.
To resolve this they let the tenants fight amongst themselves. The superintendent was fired in my first month of moving in and proceeded to go to the local paper for a big write up about her terrible bosses. The worst of all for me is the fact that from Dec 1st to Aug 1st they entered my premises 21 times. Yes, you read that correctly, 21 times.. I have the notices still to prove it.
I called after the thirteenth time and complained about the ridiculous amount of times.
They responded with.. We are just told what to send those decisions are made by head office.
I was also informed that on many occasions that didn't actually enter the premises as they had scheduling conflicts. If you're a pet owner that meant you're pet gets shut in a room while you're at work all day for no reason multiple times. I have notes that instruct me not to open my windows in winter as I can be held responsible if pipes freeze and burst. I received a letter informing me to remove my air conditioner by Set. 30th or I can accrue "extra charges" even though I pay the utilities. If these aren't glimpses into a terribly incompetent apathetic company staffed by uninformed employees there isn't one to be found. They are unprofessional and prey upon people not educating themselves on these matters. If you have any other viable options, for the love of sanity avoid these fools.

They don't deserve half a star, very poor communication, extremely unprofessional, very restarted. And extremely rude people. They don't have the basic communication skills required to run a business. If they are wrong they will ignore it and if you're wrong they will make you pay ..

Brock King Properties will flatly refuse to rent to decent tenants. The apartments they show prospective tenants are of people who still live in them or people who are jailbirds who left the apartment wrecked.

The promises Brock King Properties make to people are meaningless.

The credibility of Brock King Properties is nonexistent.

My advice to anyone looking to rent from Brock-King is to move on to Homestead etc. much more professional. The initial paperwork is ridiculous but that is ok. What I find hard to deal with is the office staff, they are the rudest, hostile most unprofessional people I have ever had to deal with. I feel ill at the thought of even phoning them with a question, it is a demoralizing experience and not at all called for. I noticed a sign up on the counter of their office about treating "them" with respect and I had to snicker - wonder why. Awful people, stay away from them is my advice. They do not treat people well.

This is the worst rental company I have ever dealt with. The agent " Wendy " said we could look at a place and the night before cancelled saying it was rented, about a week later she phoned and said another one was available and we went to look at this one, needless to say we didn't take that one. A few months later she said a place had come up and would we be interested, we said yes and went to look at this place, we said we would take it and went to drop off the app in which we were told it had been rented. We emailed her to find out what was going on and received no word back. A rental company like this should really look into how the rental agents are treating a prospective tenant.

While dealing with a rental agency your expectations are greater than those of a private renter as this is their sole focus - providing a positive rental experience. However, the experiences with this company in the last month are nothing short of unprofessional and unreliable. We first contacted the leasing agent 'Wendy' by email. She proceeded to answer our questions in a timely manner and set up a viewing. The night before the viewing she emailed me to cancel and we set up an additional time (a week and a half later as she needed to be the one to show the property, not the other readily available leasing agent). The next scheduled viewing date approached and I texted to verify the time a few hours before our meeting she then cancelled stating the apartment had been rented. We then tried to contact her via phone, email and text for about a week until she finally got back to us to set up another viewing. (Note: we don't live in the area and have been travelling into town from Toronto to see the apartment.) At this point we told her we wanted to secure the unit and would do so immediately by paying and filling out an application. She informed us we would need to go see the unit before we could do so and again made us wait over another week to see the unit so it fit her schedule (again, there's another agent that could have shown us the unit but for reasons unknown it was imperative that she showed the property). Again, the day of the viewing rolls around and we are not informed of any cancellations until I contact her - yet again to confirm due to the unreliability we've already experienced- and she let's us know the unit has been rented and the appointment has been cancelled. Knowing how poor your service has been one would assume she would make herself available to help in any way when we inquired about a different property in an immediate response to her cancellation.. she failed to again answer any calls, emails or texts. This company clearly staffs individuals who are very unprofessional, clearly incompetent and unaware of how to do their jobs. They have undoubtedly lost a potential future tenant. An agency of this size should practice better business methods and focus some efforts on training their leasing agents to be held to higher standards.

About eight years ago we sold our house to live closer to live closer work in Kingston and because the place was too big for us. Six bedrooms for two people is a bit much. First Brock Kingston wanted a deposit before i even looked at an apartment. What kind of garbage is that? Did not get approved. No reason was given. Since i doubt it was credit since most places will tell you if it is credit so that you can check if there any errors I had a feeling that it could of been because I am in an inter-racial marriage . I can not prove it but these morons refused to say why. I then went to Homestead and was able to get an apartment that was over $100 a month more without the issues. Later we changes our lease at homestaed from a one bedroom to a 2 bedroom. When we moved out in May of this year. We had no late payments ( we even received a bit of money later on from Homestead.) We had very few repair issues. When we moved out of Homestead we purchased a home for 344,000. And yet you denied us an apartment. Your loss.

My fiance and I know several people who rent from this rental company and we recently tried to apply for an apartment and our current landlord gave perfect reference on the stupid paper they had us get him to fill out verifying that we indeed pay our rent on time and have never been late as well as had the stupid bank form they had us fill out which also checked out and I had to call the agent several times after viewing an apartment in which the agent did not even show us rather gave us a number for a renter moving to set up a time with them to view the apartment. We had everything perfect including a steady income that could pay the rent at least twice the rent requested including had our first and last ready to go....after a few days after the agent telling us that we would know by, I had not heard from her so my fiance had called and asked and she had told him we had been denied the apartment. I called back a few minutes later asking if it would make a difference if we had a co signer as well as a direct payment and all she could say is to call back and she will put the application threw again. I said okay and called back the next day like she said and we had still been denied the apartment worst part about the whole thing we talked to our references including our current landlord and they had never even called them to check our application info to be true..... It is totally unfair and retarded because we know people of welfare living in their and we make way more then them and we are denied....I think they should seriously shake their heads cause they literally had zero reason not to rent to us like many others writing reviews and maybe if they read this page which I am sure they do but choose to rather ignore and be ignorant and refusal to good people who are honest and pay their rent on time that's a dumb reason not to rent to someone....

Brock King is a total waste of time.
i put a rental inquiry in and got a response about a week later. the leasing agent told me that there were a few apartments available, and wondering if i could view them. i tried calling her and there was no answer, i tried the next day and there was no answer. she finally answered the next day when i called from a different phone. she was very unproffessional, and i viewed the apartment, well she decided to up the rentwhen i was going to take on someone elses lease. they cant do that!! they can only increase the rent in september and they shouldnt be increasing! i will be filling out an application, i hope they have changed it , because from what ive heard i will not be answering an invasive questions! seriously everyone, brock king is a waste of time, they need to hire new leasing agents!!

Brock-King is probably the worst company I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. I had to contact the agent through email because she would never answer the phone and because of that, it took her days to respond. When I finally got her to make an appointment to view a unit, she made it for 7:30 pm, and I had a 2 hour drive to get there (which she knew). I drove all the way down to Kingston and when I got to her office, that's when she decided to tell me that she couldn't show me the apartment because the current resident had handed in their keys already; why they can't show an empty apartment is beyond my understanding. Because I wanted a ground floor, she told me to go look through the window instead. Not impressed. She wouldn't even let me apply to be approved because I didn't actually see the place.

She emailed me again the next Monday, asking if I would see an apartment on Wednesday, I replied to her email the same day she sent it saying that I would, but I never heard from her again until Friday. I even called and texted on Tuesday afternoon because I hadn't heard back.

So we booked another viewing eventually and when I got to her office for the second time, she told me that the other agent had rented the apartment that I drove 2 hours to see. What?! She told me that we weren't allowed to see the place because it wasn't ready, but somehow somebody else managed to rent it?

I viewed a different apartment anyway and decided to apply for it, their application is completely invasive and a lot of the questions are none of their business. Everybody, including the bank agreed.

Anyway I filled it out, and showed that I had more than enough income to afford the apartment which only cost $750 anyway, and I have a perfect credit history. After a week and a half and no word on whether or not I got approved, I decided to call them and find out what was going on, the agent then told me that I wasn't approved and she didn't have an explanation for it.

After reading the other reviews on this site, I wasn't really surprised, but it was still disappointing nonetheless. Oh well, I would be worried about how the company handles other things if this is how they deal with gaining new tenants.

All I have to say is good job Brock-King, you take what should be a fun experience and turn it into a total hassle. Thanks.

I recently viewed a unit with Brock King, and despite multiple red flags in my mind about the business, their organization and the cleanliness of the buildings, I decided to fill out an application as I was in need of a new home.

After a week of being played around, I had a chance to view the apartment. Red flag #1, the viewing was rushed as the leasing agent stood at the units front door, propped open with her foot, staring at me while I viewed the unit. Quite uncomfortable.

Second red flag, I had to send out communication in the form of emails, texts and even a couple of phone calls for a few days before receiving any response. When I did receive something, the response basically shouted "I have better things to do".

Despite all of that, I did in fact fill out an obscene amount of paper work for their application. Seriously, I'm surprised they didn't demand I hand over my first born (even though I'm not a parent). I even brought the banking form to a teller in which that teller stated "some of these questions are unfair, and others are ridiculous". You guessed it, red flag número 3.

Once I finished the application, I was told I will be contacted in 2 business days about its approval. A week later I get a call, and I was told I was denied but the reason why was barred from me. Apparently the information was confidential, though it's MY information. Here's the funny thing - I have good credit, provided 4 excellent landlord references, 3 personal references and was able to prove I could afford their rent 3 times over (with money to spare). Yet, I was still denied for what seems to me like no reason.

Actually, back tracking I think my very first red flag involving this wet bag of cats is the fact that two of my friends, that are overall in the same - if not better situation than me - were also denied without cause. Hmm...

Don't waste your time folks, stay away from this "company".

I have lived with Brock king most of my life. We have transferred to different apartments many times in Brock king apartments in the past and have never been charged a pro rate if the next apartment was empty. Well this new lady was hired to handle showing apartments instead of the super. We called this woman so many times before she finally got back to us because the super is no longer allowed to show apartments. She scedual a time and then never even called to say she wasn't coming.called the next day to say she needs to re scedual. Finally shows up and show the apartment only to spend another few weeks trying to track her down to sign applications and do an inspection of our apt. The apt I want to move into is down the hall completely empty and ready for me to move into but Brock king insists I pay a pro rate (30 dollars - day) if I move in early. Not to mention I took the apt as is with dirty windows and broken screens and now there trying to charge me for them! Scumbag company if I've ever seen one!

My partner and I recently "attempted" to rent an apartment from Brock King in Kingston.
First off, the woman who we were trying to set up viewing appointments with took several weeks to actually book an apartment viewing for us. My partner tried calling her on numerous occasions (but was told that she was either "not in the office" or "not working that day". I tried emailing her every second day for two weeks and she would also very seldomly respond to those (if she did it would occasionally have nothing to do with my request(s). (This should have been red flags from the start).

We finally got an appointment to view an apartment (things were starting to look up a bit)...we had even decided to fill out an application for one. We took tbe applocation to the bank to fill out for us and the teller informed us that there were unusual questions on it (like how much a loan was for) and the amount I had in my bank account for the passed three months.

A couple of days went by and we still hadn't heard back from this woman from brock king....and we were starting to get worried about the application. After the third day of waiting around for her call I decided to see if she'd received the response from the application myself. When I called I stated my name and asked how she was and then asked if she'd gotten an answer back about our application----she put me on hold for five minutes, came back on the line, and said that out application had been denied. I asked her what the reason behind this would be and she stated, VERY UNSYMPATHETICALLY, "ohhhh, I'm sorry....we aren't able to tell you that---that's classified information". Shocked at her response and retort I asked her what she meant by it's "classified information" and that the information she had on my partner and I were "our information" she again unsympathetically stated, "sorry" and then said to try again in 12 months and hung up on me. Outraged and very confused I decided to take the ten minute drive down to the brock king office on sir john a macdonald. When I got in to the office she smiled and asked me if I had spoken with my partner yet---I gazed at her and said "no....I told you before, she is working"....which she said "I told your partner that the apocation has unfortunately been rejected!" I said, "no, you told ME that ten minutes ago on the phone and failed to call us earlier to inform us of this rejection and I want to know the reasons that brock king has for our application from someone who pays her rent on time, all bills, pays for a more expensive unit at the present than the one you have to offer, and who has a good credit score. At this point she just kept shaking her head and seemed to mock me by saying that she was "very sorry" and for us to try again in 12 months. I couldn't help it but at this point I couldn't take anymore of her unsympathetic approach to the matter and walked out of the office.

Even though my partner and I are still very upset with the results of brock kings application we are very greatful that we didn't get involved with such unprofessional individuals. I would not even rate this company or overall experience a one!

Look elsewhere people!

I attempted to rent an apartment with Brock King, but they were extremely difficult to deal with and I recommend avoiding them at all costs. They required me to personally view the apartment I would be renting, while all other companies allowed a surrogate to view. Despite my explaining that I lived 8 hours away and travelling to Kingston to view an apartment was difficult, they made no exceptions. I tried to be accommodating so we made an appointment to view several of their properties and I spent $150 to bus to Kingston. Despite making these plans roughly 10 days in advance, the agent called me after I had already arrived the day before saying that she would need to reschedule. After telling her I wouldn't be able to as I had already completed my travelling she said she would only be able to get the keys to some of the apartments we had agreed to view. Having no choice, I agreed to view the apartments she had keys for.

The apartment itself was a decent size but a complete wreck. The floors were destroyed and there was a huge crack in the main window that looked like a bullet hole. They said they would try to fix it before move in. However, I figured the price was great so I could deal with it. I took home the rental application, which was the most extensive and personal application I've ever done, including asking my bank balance over the last three months. Even the teller at the bank said the application was very unusual and an invasion of privacy, but again the price was good, so I tried to deal with it.

I was told that when my application was accepted I would have three days to come to Kingston to sign the lease. They would not mail the lease and would not give me the date in advance, so whenever they decided in the next month that my application was accepted I would have to be prepared to take an 8 hour bus ride with no warning to sign a piece of paper.

Several weeks later I received a call saying that my application was denied, and no explanation was given. I have rented with three different property companies in the past with no issue, have a credit score of 800, have never been late with a rent cheque and had a steady source of income. After asking numerous times why the rental application was denied, the agent refused to give me any reason. When I asked who I could speak to in order to find out what the issue was, the agent hung up on me.

This process was extremely inconvenient, disorganized, and ultimately came to nothing. If you are from outside of Kingston looking to rent, know that you will be required to come to Kingston twice before renting, with at least one of those times being given less than 3 days notice. And for all people looking to rent, if you choose to endure this hassle, apply for other apartments as well as they can deny your application with no explanation and for apparently no reason.

Recently the office employees have been shifted around at the office located in 710 Sir John A MacDonald. As a result no one seems to know what they are supposed to do and things aren't getting done. They also fired a superintendent of 17 years stating that her cleaning is not up to their requirements, which is a load of bull. This woman worked all hours and did a very good job, so good that at least 18 letters of complaint have been written and forwarded to the head office. I have seen Betty shoveling snow at 3:00 am, the laundry room was spotless as were all of the public areas, and she is in her 60's. To make things worse, her longtime partner was found drowned just a year ago yet she didn't slack off for one min. and did all of the work herself without ever complaining. I went to 700, the building across from 710 to considering renting and it was disgusting, and certainly didn't even compare to 710 with dirty hallway carpets that stunk from lack of basic cleaning and half of the bulbs were burnt out.
I think the real reason for firing such a hard workers so they can hire someone new at the bottom of the pay scale, but as of yet the building has no super at all! The laundry room was filthy yesterday and no one seems to be there to clean it. I would think that if a business was going to let go of an employee, they would at least have the foresight to have someone hired to take their place. I think I would rather live in a tent then rent from Brock King Properties and not know who to go to when things need to be done. At least there is a part time employee who does go out of his way to help when ever he can, Randy. Funny, I believe that Randy is Betty's son which makes sense as he has the same strong work ethics that his mother has. Brock King should be ashamed, but shame is something they just don't seem to have. My advice is to go elsewhere if you are looking to rent, if not then best of luck. You'll need it.

They are extremely dysfunctional and cannot decide who is the one to make the decision within the office, they play favorites if there are issues with an unstable roommate, they will let anyone live in their apartments or housings, so beware...unless you are welfare or of the drug dealer type, i would not recommend...
