I've lived in the Pendrell Towers for many years, at two different points over the past two decades.

For an older set of buildings (completed in 1967), the towers have been maintained quite well and were well constructed. The pie-shaped design makes for a large bedroom and a large, uniquely shaped livingroom at the expense of the bathroom and kitchen, which are quite small. The apartments that have been renovated in more recent years have an island counter top on the sink side, which opens up the space and gives more counter to work with. The non-renovated suites, however, have a slightly claustrophobic feel - not ideal for big cookers or couples who like to prepare meals together (you'll be stepping all over each other). The bathroom is tiny, but mostly functional. An important note, though, is that the original suites have no electrical outlets at in the bathroom - a product of the time that they were built. I believe that this has been updated, but I can't confirm that, so poke your head in and check if you're looking at renting a room.
The general construction of the building is concrete, and the sound-proofing, while not absolute, is pretty good from floor to floor... far better than most modern high rises. Security is of increasing importance in the downtown core, and recent improvements to the font entrance and garage have helped. The buildings regularly undergo renovations and are in surprisingly good shape for 40 year old towers, although some of the decor is outdated. The elevators are in need of an overhaul, at the time of writing (2017).

The management can be short with people at times and aren't always what I would consider warm, but I have never had any issues with them. The only time I have ever had reason to complain was in regards to the former maintenance man, a surly and unpleasant fellow who has thankfully retired. I have no special relationship with the building manager, but she has always replied and dealt with any issues that have arisen, and any repairs in my apartment have been done very quickly. Good rule of thumb? Pay your rent on time and don't be a complete ass to people and they'll likely treat you a lot better. One area that could be improved upon is the fact that pool has traditionally been opened up later into the season than it should be.

As for location, it is excellent for access to the beach or transit, with plenty of restaurants nearby. There is a school next door, and the kids can be loud when the doors are open (they are kids, after all). One major note is that the entire block on the South side of the towers will be undergoing heavy construction beginning in the summer of 2017 and will last 2-3 years, so be ready for some daytime noise if you face South. There will also be some loss of waterview if you are in the 1616 tower.

Overall, this is one of the better catches of the towers in the West End. The buildings are a little aged, but well-worn.

Management of 1616 and 1666 Pendrell Towers as follow!
-Manager: ....................Mother
-Weekend Manager.......Daughter
-Assistant Manager.......Son in law
Favoritism and nepotism is equal to bad management practice! The company is not owned by them! Very unethical business !

Great place to live. No one is perfect but service is great.
For those who complain about living at pendrells , you better go back where you come from.
Buildings are not hotels and employees are not your servants.
Mice bed bugs and all other issues, Sheraton and Fairmont have the same problem.
Pendrells location is great so guys enjoy it.
Nagging and negative people - you are the problem, not pendrells . Cheers

Here we are again! Weekend's care takers fired! Girls stuff said they wrote down letter to the owner about what is going on around here. It's Freedom of Speech so you can't fire someone because of that!
Two girls employed there are not to trust to. They do nothing but mess around and go to work for other companies in working hours! Couple Manager play their old game for years taking care about their grand kid in working hours . Those toxic management stuff make toxic environment.
Is owner aware of that?!

I'm surprised to read so many bad reviews here. Perhaps people who are unhappy are more motivated to write reviews. However, I feel compelled to defend the place as I love living here. The main manager is very sweet and the others are decent enough. The place is kept clean. They are always pleasant and quick to fix things. The renovated units are great. I love the open kitchen, dishwasher, garborator.

Our north facing outlook over the school playground is open and gorgeous. The sounds of children playing is not for everyone and perhaps that's partly why I like this building. It seems to attract open minded, easy going people from all over the world. It's not snotty at all.

I love watching the seasons change from this urban sanctuary just two blocks from English Bay. With evergreen trees, the outlook is always green in the foreground with a colourful city scape behind. When the deciduous trees lose their leaves we see four mountain ranges. There are cherry blossoms in the spring and pool access in the summer.

The round balcony is wonderful in the summer with doors that open onto it from the living room and the bedroom. Plus, the big windows open up wide allowing lots of airflow. Being a concrete building, noise doesn't carry at all. I am a musician with a piano. I host parties with other musicians and have never had a complaint. A family next door plays the piano and we hear it just faintly in the background. The laundry on every floor is very convenient too.

1. The biggest problem of this place is NOISE - middle school next to it! Look at that big school field right next to Pendrell towers, if you think that its OK - you wrong. Kids always shouting and yelling like crazy from 8:30am till eve and even till 10pm on summer and even on weekends! It seems that their teachers never watch them. If you work during the day, you more or less can save yourself from noise and get nice rest, however! If somehow you are home from 8:30am till 6pm be ready to be disturbed by yelling. Every Sunday and Monday night, late night service people (waiter and bartenders) are constantly loudly partying on balcony's from midnight till 2-3pm and noone does anything with it. I lived here for 2 years and seriously considering moving to neighborhood with less noise.
2. PIGEONS with their nests is another problem for floors from 10-15, be sure not to let them even check out your balcony, otherwise you end up with birds sheeting everything around your place like crazy and its really hard to kick them out - NO CONTROL OF THAT BY MANAGEMENT WHATSOEVER, and no even suggestions from them about how not to have disturbing pigeons for tenants, who do not like cleaning after NON-DESIRED BIRDS AT THEIR PLACE. (When those pigeons are checking out your place for fun nest, they do loud noises and can even enter your place). You saw those birds by garbage bins, right? These birds often carry infections and may leave for you and your kids. Watch out.
* Management is OK, if you also dont like talking too much or smiling, they can take you seriously this way I guess :) Place is good for moms with small kids and absolutely DEAF people.
Its true - once in a while elevators just stuck for whatever reason.
PLUS - close to bay, grocery and have spacious rooms with big windows and spacious balcony's that is hard to find downtown. Again - watch out your balcony - birds may destroy or sheet everything you have there.

I would not recommend anyone to rent here because of very bad management of those two buildings, Pendrell Place and Pendrell Plaza. I am current tenant and I can't wait to move from here.
Second floors of both buildings are infested with mice's for years, bad bags are also part of the living in some units. Office is mostly closed, employees are never on site, they are so slow in fixing anything around two buildings. Buildings are messy, they don't clean it regularly because they are never there.
Where is owner to see everything going on here?! Or, maybe the owner doesn't care about what is going on but rent being paid on time. Terrible!

The managers are so rude, the office is always closed, they are never available and they put signs in the elevator with green tape and written with a pen!! It looks so guetto plus one of the managers always have food in his hair.

They care less for the tenants.
I would love to move out now but I don't want to lose my deposit :(

They are same background Management and they work for themselves, not for Landlord , not for Tenants.
Weekend guy is rude, not polite at all. They cover each other in everything and do nothing around. If you call Office, they never P/U phone, if something should be fixed up you will wait and wait and call at least ten times until someone come.
The rents are so high, customer service zero.
I would not recommend anybody to rent in Pendrell Towers.

My opinion:
Management is big 0. They are doing nothing but look after their grandkid in working hours and other stuff going to work to other places , for other companies in working hours.
No one cares about tenants who work hard to pay big rent.
