This was our long distance service provider. I wanted to cancel with them b/c we were cancelling our land-line telephone number. So I did it--no problem. I kept my notes about dates, names and that it was successfully cancelled.

Then we continued to be billed by them, receiving overdue notices etc. for $22.31. Contacting them was tough but when i finally got to a human being it wasn't worth it. They were rude, combative and blamed us for the trouble. Their argument? We were supposed to first transfer their services to a different long distance provider. I told them that not only is it ludicrous to transfer when the phone is disconnected, but that their little "rule" was never even explained to me.

This is when things got sticky. The SelectCom representative argued that I HAD been told. Since she was not part of my conversation when cancelling, I have no idea how she could know this. I kept my cool and tried to verbalize my understanding of what I now needed to do to cancel (again). She kept cutting my off and telling me I was getting no-where because I wouldn't listen. That I needed to be quiet. Listen more and talk less.

I hung up. It seemed the smart thing to do before loosing my cool and wrecking what could otherwise be a perfectly good day. What a ridiculous grab for a few bucks. Seriously.

UPDATE: My husband called SelectCom a few days later and paid the bill using his credit card. He asked for a confirmation number and was told it would take a day to process, but they would email one to us. We watched and waited but no confirmation was sent. We contacted them AGAIN and this time they said our credit card was declined. Instead of giving it to them again, we asked for the SelectCom rep to read us the number they used. It was correct, meaning they had inputted the number incorrectly. More of our time was wasted but fine, at least this would be over with.

We requested a confirmation number. It would be emailed, they said. When the email finally arrived (days later), it confirmed our payment of $22.31 and gave us a current balance of another $20--all in 1 sentence! We have since emailed them back and told them to please stop trying to scam any further funds from us.

We will NOT be paying this ridiculous $20. We never owed the first amount. I am so angry. Even one of the multiple staff members we spoke with at SelectCom admitted that the numbers made no sense. One of them even spoke of a credit to our account. Now they want another $20? There isn't even an explanation in the email as to why.

We will not be paying this. Ever!
