Universal Lighting

Over many years I have purchased lighting for home and cottage. When looking for something I usually check other lighting stores as well (e.g.Union Electric, Sescolite, Royal lighting etc) but the majority of my lighting fixtures always comes from Universal. They manage to have not only the usual inventory, but always some that are a little more unique. They must have a talented buyer. I have always had pleasant service and wonderful service more often than not. But I hit the jackpot this time. Not only did I need fixtures; I also needed an electrician and they recommended a fellow who is a jewel. I have dealt with many many tradesmen and this fellow ranks with the best I have ever dealt with. I am doubly overjoyed - with my fixtures and my electrician.

7-day return policy especially stingy- in a remodel, you'd really have to rush to see if everything works out.

I waited for a backorder item, and I'm glad I opened it right away: the block glass was perfectly sheared in half. Who ships their stuff? The thing must have been dropped from a 20th floor balcony. Not happy to have to wait for another and make another trip to the store.

Also, they wanted me to prepay for the 2nd backorder. Yeah, I'll just open my wallet guys.

I am very surprised with this review 2 posts below as well. I also find it hard to believe that after you bought all of your lights at Royal Lighting that you still went to Universal to look for something else. I guess you were not completely honest and not happy with your purchase at Royal. I have always received great service, and sometimes there are certain things that are out of their control (back ordered items). They have the best selection in the city! I will continue to shop here for all my lighting needs and have recommended it to all of my friends and family.

I am so surprised at the review below. Having built and then renovated (due to severe water damage) my home a lot within the last 6 years I have needed a lot of lights and mostly shopped here and only had positive experiences. I've always received good customer service and only had to wait a few minutes max if they are busy. Their selection is amazing and even when something I wanted wasn't in stock they ordered it for me quickly and always called to say it was in. I feel bad for the reviewer below who had a bad experience but also feel bad for the store because I know that isn't typical for them. I really recommend it. After reading the review I was worried that maybe the prices weren't the best so I checked for the last few fixtures I need and found they were priced the same as or less than at 3 other stores in the city so I ordered them at Universal. I really recommend it.

After waiting for help for a quite a while i was finally approached by a salesperson who clearly wasn't interested in helping me, nor was he knowledgeable at all.
Even without much help i found a fixture to purchase. after getting it home i realized it was broken. i called the store and they ordered me a replacement. For months and months i waited and waited , i called and got little to no response or calls back. The store then told me the fixture was on back order and would be 2 months to arrive. i went to another store to inquire about the same light. they didn't stock it but were able to order it in for me.... they called the next week to say it was in. when i went to pick it up i was very surprised to find out the light was SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper.

Overall... they lied about the item on backroder
the were overpriced on the fixture

This is a wonderful store with a huge selection of products, not just lights they have a wide variety of home accessories to help complete a room. The staff are friendly, knowledgable and very helpful. Love this store!

This is a fabulous store. I heard about it from a designer friend who comes all the time. The day that I came in they were shooting an HGTV decorating show there and I met them! I bought a ton of stuff cause they had everything that I wanted. They helped me with a lighting plan and Marla helped select the perfect lights. I even got a few really unique pieces that look like they are from a magazine! They had a ton of stunning little nick nacks and decorating pieces that I unexpectedly picked up too. Great customer service.

As a designer I recommend Universal for all your lighting (and even some furniture and accessory) needs. I shop here exclusively now, as I have had hands down the best experiences here compared to all other toronto lighting stores. And I know that their prices are the lowest. Their selection is amazing with every style available. And the staff are the best. A great place to shop if you are a homeowner or a designer!

Universal is the best store in Toronto. They have only pros and no cons. Shopping in this store is such a pleasant experience. Their lights are the best quality and they have an unbelievable selection. And they are priced extremely competitively. And I love their staff, who are so nice and knowledgeable and friendly and helpful but not pushy at all. They offer really good advice about lights and decorating and lighting placement. And my 4 year old son loves it too! They are so friendly to kids. They have a secret toy drawer and they let kids come and pick a toy to play with, which is so smart cause he was so happy and quiet the entire time I shopped. I recommend Universal 100% and would not shop anywhere else ever. Enjoy!

I love this store. They have everything you could ever want in their very big showroom. Their lights are of the best quality. They have all styles from traditional to very modern and trendy. I love their staff, who are all very friendly and helpful and talkative but not pushy. If you need lights go here!

Everything the other reviewer said is true plus more. I only have had very positive experiences here. Will shop here every time I need a light. I also buy my gifts here. So unique and everyone loves them!

This is by far the best lighting store in Toronto. I have shopped in a bunch of places and now will only shop at Universal. They have a stunning showroom with lights of all styles and for all budgets. Their staff are super nice and knowledgable and will spend unlimited time with you giving you good advice. I always see them featured on decorating tv shows and in the magazines and for good reason - they are the best! Highly recommended.
