THE DERBEND STORY Investing truly is a narrow path. At Derbend Asset Management, we believe in this idea—so much so that we named our company after it. Derbend is the name of a village tucked away near the highest point of the Caucasus Mountains in Dagestan, a region in southern Russia. It was from this village that the legendary Murid warrior, Shamyl, fought for decades to protect his people from the Russian Czar's troops in the 1800's. The significance of the name comes from the English translation from the local dialect; Derbend means “the narrow path."
