Landing in Canada in chilly winter season and then finding 55 Charles St E was like a dream come true. The building is nice and cozy. I was really blown away by the size of 1 Bedroom apartment compared to others in this area.
I have been here for almost 2 years and never faced any problem. Building is really safe and the Superintendent and his assistant are really warm and welcoming.
Before handing over the apartment to me the management made sure that its clean and hygenic and all the fixtures in the apartment were replaced by new once. All in all a nice place to be.

The building and units are actually pretty decent. Unfortunately, the super is a disaster. As the previous poster mentioned, him and his wife are constantly high. His wife had cancer so I understand she might have needed to use marijuana for medicinal purposes, but John, the super, is also stoned pretty much all the time. My issue with 55 Charles St. E. was the fact that they actually sued me for nonpayment, when I had paid my rent. I made the big mistake of paying one month with a money order (while I was getting my cheques ordered) and this money order was apparently never received. I was also promised a free month which I repeatedly told the super I'd like to apply to December. He said ok, no problem, and ok, no problem to my money order. January 4th: I get a court order in my mail from the Landlord and Tenant Board claiming that I owe two months' rent. At this point, I spoke to the super and he became very hostile, denying the fact that I'd paid or he'd said ok to the free month. Management had no idea about anything and was clearly not communicating with the super. To make a long story short, I had to prove I paid my rent, get legal advice, track down my money order through my bank, only to send them a copy of the money order with their deposit stamp on the back. They never apologized, lost the $160 it cost them to file to the Board, wasted my time and caused me so much stress threatening to evict me. All this while I was doing my M.A.

Suffice it to say, I have never had such a horrible experience renting in my whole life. The other day, I passed by the building and saw the super and his wife on their balcony smoking. I can't believe they didn't fire him. Please be careful when renting here. The units do look great, but should you ever have an issue or trust your super with something, things could go very wrong.

Oh, and parking is a joke. The main entrance is always blocked off. They threaten to tow your car if you don't get a permit for your friends (sometimes the friend is only there for a couple of minutes), and on two occasions the superintendent entered my unit without giving me any sort of notice.

We have lived here for almost 3 years, and have found it tolerable. The main superintendents are stoned most of the day, when you enter the building and their second floor balcony door is open the smell of marijuana is overwhelming, also if the elevator is stopped on floor 2 for an extended period of time it will fill with the smell of marijuana. This also doesn't help that when you ask for something in your apartment to be fixed they forget for months. I gave notice 2months ago that my smoke alarm was not working and it has still not been fixed.

Yes visitor parking is nice but they have blocked the entrance from the road and you must enter from the building beside's driveway. When you park your car there even if you have asked for a pass 5 minutes before you will be harassed about trespassing (very nice for your visitors...).

Also when moving in we were told a gym and lockers were going to be installed. This was a lie.

When my parents came to visit around November, when the superintendent were putting up the Christmas decorations they complained about the smell of alcohol and impoliteness coming from them.

It is however a very clean and safe building with very polite and nice tenants.

I lived at the Charlesview for just about 3 months as of this writing and am very pleased.

The supers have been fantastic, very attentive and very mindful of the property. Havn't expreienced any issues with waiting for a laundry machine unless I do it on a weekend afternoon. Visitor parking is clutch. I was blown away with the suite when I first saw it, it's heads above most of the rentals I've seen, but you do pay a little more for it.

My only two issues are that you are forced into paying cable because of a deal they have with the provider. And second that the kitchen is just a little small in terms of storage space/counter space.

I've lived here for over 2 years now and it's hands down the best building I've ever lived in for safety and cleanliness. The superintendants are more than consciencious and treat the building as if it were their own. They know pretty well everyone who lives here by name and are really on it when it comes to security. They are also very approachable and do whatever they can as fast as they can whenever I need anything. The tennants for the most part are also friendly, and other than a few outdated features inside my unit I love living here. I believe all the suites are being renovated before rerenting now, so my issues shouldn't affect new renters.
