Finally the city shut this hell hole down.Who knows for how long>Probably a few months then back with a new name.At the very least they should have a thorough inspection by property standards and effect all repairs needed including stairs.concrete and fire damaged parts be rebuilt and be made to hook into water/sewers as well as install proper heat
I cant believe the difference a few months can make.
Along with the brand new water filtration system and the renovations that have occurred I was so pleased to sleep through the entire night.
It was such a pleasant surprise to spend the entire night in pure silence and no drama happening outside my door.
The place has definatly changed for the better and the clientel has changed aswell.
as I walked back from getting my breakfast next door at Tim Hortons I officially decided to book my next stay at this location in April. I never thought for a minute I would have spent even a minute at that location
It sure is nice to see the changes first hand.

Thanks New Highway Inn for some well needed rest while so far from home

The New Highway Inn is officially my new home away from home! I was only to be here for 2 nights and stayed for 6 and didn't want to go! Staff went above and beyond with anything I needed unlike other places I've stayed where made feel like I was bothering the staff to do their jobs. I can't wait to go back!
Just had a 2 nights stay at the Nights Inn and was very pleased with the New changes and improvements! Rooms redone water pressure in shower was great and will for sure be going back!!
Thanks New Highway Inn

Had a weekend getaway with the girls and wanted to thank the staff at New Highway Inn for a great stay. They were ever so helpful never had to chase down anyone for extras and the rooms were exceptionally clean. Home away from home.. Recommended to everyone...
Recently stayed 2nights at the New Highway Inn and wanted to take time to review because I believe this hotel had a bad rep before and believe me that is no longer the case.
Clean rooms Free WiFi and peace and quiet for the weekend was needed and received.
I will for sure be staying again.

This hotel has great price fun ppl i recommend
At first glance it may seem like the place nightmares are certainly made of, but beneath the rough extrerior there's a feeling something similar to a safety net. The staff here are NOT all from Pakistan but even so (racist remarks are exactly the type of attitude the people here don't participate in), they ensure a well kept room and well kept Outlook while visiting . There are also many long term residents who go out of their way to Mar any newcomer feel at ease ad comfortable. To say that this place was a horrible stay simply because of it's dapper appearance is something akin to why the Nazis slaughtered Jewish people. It is not of the shiny ad suave fiver star hotels passersby are probably used to staying at, but the people and the place itself will definitely help you loosen your muscles ad relax your mind.
I was pleased to be in such a clean freindly atmostpher. All rooms incl. Free WiFi, and drinks in mini fridge in room. The owner provides Flexible check out upon request. Great low rates. Definitely would stay again. Tim Hirtons right next door. I couldn't ask for more.
I was very pleased with my stay. I was caught unexpectedly in ottawa and i couldn't find any accomidating hotels.
Upon my arrival the owner went out of his way to accommodate me.
Free Wifi. Free drinks mini fridge air conditioning microwaves in the room.

Yes I have been to 5 star hotels and many B&B's however none of them compare to the Hwy Inn.
When I was at my lowest point. The owner opened his doors and gave me a safe place to call my own.
Many people write about the bad but they never seem To mention just how many people the owner has helped.
I would recommend this location to anyone.
If YOU ever had to stay in a shelter downtown then you would consider this to be heaven.
Rooms are a bit rustic and you can't drink the water but complimentary drinks and all personal needs are well provided for.
The owner has even bought coffee or meals if needed just to help people out.
I give this place a higher rating than the Hilton you sure don't get any personal services and they don't care to know your name. At least at the Hwy Inn you are a person and respected as so. Your not just a $ sign or number. The owner actually cares.
Rooms are clean and cozy sure fresh paint may be needed but other than that it's better than a shelter.

I urge everyone not to stay at this hotel. The room was filthy, cold, and beds filled with dirt and sand. Bathroom is filthy. The city of Ottawa should shut this place down.
Ok they say a pic is worth a thousand words, for those who still may doubt the true reports of how bad this place is check out the pics Nevermind the fact the cops are there or why.Notice the wonderful condition of the window blinds? Notice the snow load on the stairs?? It looks like they are boarded off.probably leaving one egress and probably not even legal and up to code.
Hey feel free to spot more flaws, this is just the outside.Would love to see pics of the inside posted of this dump

I stayed there and I will never make that mistake again. You need to be a drug user or welfare type to blend in that community. Police will show up often due to low class guest issues. You need tolerate the fights or yelling occurs at nights due to drug deals or low class guest discrepancy. Truly it is a run down garbage place. Rooms are not heated ( you will get a small, old, cheap Canadian tire heater). Windows fall out almost . Smoke and booze smell comes over from other rooms due to shower tap holes. Toilets does not flash properly. Shower water smells like someone died in it. Mind that you get either hot water or cold water or none. Floor used up so all the water pipes and taps. They are probably from the 50's.
If you complain to motel guy ( mind that they all from Pakistan or from that region) you will get lot cheating and stories from them just to take you money to keep you there.
Never again that place!!!! I wonder how the government allow that building to stand or exist. The outside steel stairway already rotted out. Concrete ceiling and walls pills due to age.
If I were you, I would spend a little more money on motel or hotel but at least you will enjoy your stay in peace.

I had the displeasure in staying in this ratchet crack house a few months ago and I seriously should've got my money back and booked a physical.
Mold. Roaches. Wavy floors. Unwashed linens= byob Bring Your Own Bedding. Cheap a** soap. No heat. No hot water. Non drinkable water. Unflushable toilets. Crazy people screaming. Non existent cable. Mildewy showers that smell like a** burning in a desert...better yet wash your face and use the washroom next door at Tim hortons. Place just reeks of death. Broken blinds. Daddy long legs spiders...I think the only thing that was good about this place was the "free" wifi but I still think I should've been paid to stay there. This place is going to collapse any time now...why on earth would you want to keep a place like this running? The door to the office should be your first tip off...The only people that stay there are 15/16 year olds (cuz you don't need a credit card)who keep you up all night with their banging and debauchery. This place reeks of bad energy too I'm almost positive people die here regularly.
Keep driving!! Don't look back. Best 70$ you'll ever save.

I arrived to Ottawa September 7 2014 and I checked a few motel/hotels for availability, price and location for my needs prior to stopping at the Highway Inn Motel. I am very familiar with 2 star and 5 star accommodations, and thought I would stay at this motel. I spoke to the manager Al for a few minutes prior to deciding to stay there because it is important for people to feel comfortable with the people attending to your needs if you are going to stay in an unknown place.
After speaking to the manager "Al", I found him to be quiet honest and up front about the facility he managed. He had told me they are still under going some changes with renovations which have been taking longer than expected due to the owner, and that they are may not appear to be as fancy or luxurious as other locations but they pride themselves on how they treat guests. He was very polite and willing to answer my question regarding price, rooms and amenities.
Before agreeing to take a room the manager offered to allow me to see the room before deciding to stay, and I was happy to do so. The room was one of the prior renovated rooms. It was not the most luxurious room as he stated but it was clean and well kept. No frills or fancy items as higher end motel offer, but it had exceptionally attentive management which makes up for any short falls they might have.
Having prior been in the hotel/motel business, I spent a couple hours during my stay speaking with the manager about their future plans for the motel. I offered some insight on how to better its rooms and public image. I am certain that over the next few months they will use my advice and continue on a road to better its appearance to match the friendly nature of the staff there.
Would I recommend this motel? The answer is simple. If you are the type to pick at every minor issue found in a hotel or motel then I would not recommend that you stay.
However if you are concerned with being in a clean room with attentive staff that do not make you feel like you are imposing on their day when you require something, and you want a reasonable priced room that is clean, quiet and accessible, then I would say that the Highway Inn Motel is a good place to rest your head.
