The staff are rude and unaccomodating!
Blood stains on bedding and towels both times I was forced to stay here as a driver for a patient from New Brunswick
No fridge or microwave to eat affordable!! their so called dining room is not remotely close to affordable and if the cooking staff are anything like the cleaning staff I wouldn't eat the food anyway. A Dixie cup of coffe is just under $3
No a/c, noisy clunky fan, no screens or safety locks on windows
Rooms and halls are dirty and stink!!
You have pay to park and there are only 26 spaces for their 100 rooms and they won't book ahead for you. Parking is then on the street until 10 am or elsewhere like the hospital.
This is the absolute worst hole I've ever stayed in from British Columbia to NFLD! Clear across this country!
The governments must be pandering to a group of Doctors that own this is my guess because it is an old office building converted into whatever you want to call this mess of a place!!
It'll be a cold day in hell before I stay in this bio hazard mess ever again!
It's asking now for a star rating... there isn't a no star option so I have to choose a half star and this place deserves a negative star rating!!

I had to go to the QE2 in halifax with my fiance so he could have his aneurysym checked which requires going in through the main artery in the thigh,we went to point pleasant lodge afterwards and they charged $23 for me to be there to watch him for the night,$13.80 for us to park where we wouldn't get towed and then we were told the dining room was open at 4 so we waited and ended up getting lost finding somewhere to eat because when we went to go for dinner they told us the dining room was closed for a personal party which it turns out didn't start until 9pm and the only thing we could get was a plate of meat loaf for $16 per person which we would have to take back to our room and they had all these signs about 24 hour coffee which they didn't have, they refused to turn on the heat and shaking from cold was so dangerous for my hubby that we had to leave at 3:30am and risk driving back to truro,oh and the party that was so loud it could be heard in our room on the 7th floor was the owners party and they refused to come address the complaints we had, they were still partying at 3:30 am when we left, the point pleasent lodge is scaming the government and the medical patients as well as endangering their lives,I would not recommend anyone suffering through this treatment especially medical patients.

Stinky rooms, uncomfortable beds, Fagan didn't work. Way overpriced, had to pay for Wi-Fi and parking daily. Only stayed one night. Moved to Dalhousie residence for next month, free parking, free WiFi, two bedroom apt. Laundry, clean rooms and friendly staff would not recommend this place to anybody even if it was free. Horrible

Stayed many nights, awaiting patients transfer to another hospital, staff at hotel were aware of it. Got word of ambulance coming for patient, the hospital phoned the lodge at 1:20 pm to advise I would not be there that night. "No refunds after noon."

They even charged me $12.00 and tax for parking my car that night and I was not there.

An e-mail to your manager never received any reply. Poor patron service, I will never stay there again.

I recently had a kidney transplant and was discharged to point pleasant lodge. I have celiac disease, diabetes and have to eat heart healthy. The kitchen staff were amazing and very accomodating for my dietary needs, the food was amazing! My husband and I found the room very clean, no complaints and the staff very congenial and friendly and knew them on a first name basis. I would highly recommend staying here.

My husband and I just returned from Halifax where he had eye surgery, and we spent 2 nights at Point Pleasant Lodge. Before leaving home, I read some negative reviews that had been written about the lodge. After returning, I concluded that it is all down to expectations. If you are expecting basic, clean, affordable accommodation, which is close to hospitals where you or your loved one is receiving treatment, then book in at the Lodge. We did, and would again, if further health issues take us back to the V.G.H.

As bugs will carry you away. This place should not be operating .. They make good money off the people who stay here. Plus 12 bucks a nite for parking. But all u get @30 + is the first electric fan that every came out. And that just blows the funk in your face fr the rms .

I am writing this letter to voice a concern to what I consider an injustice done to a lady and her handicapped daughter. They went to Halifax from PEI via the Shuttle and had a reservation at the Point Pleasant Lodge for the week as the daughter had to be admitted into hospital. When they arrived at the Lodge, they were turned away because their room was not paid for even though arrangements were made and she had a confirmation number. As payment had not arrived from the PEI Social Services Department they were denied a room. I called the Lodge to give them a credit card number to pay for the room but was denied saying there was no one to send the number for authorization. A request was made to have the manager return my call which was also denied. The Mother and daughter asked if they could leave their luggage while they walked to the QE11 hospital hoping to make other arrangements, but this request was also denied. So in the rain, carrying their luggage they walked to the hospital. The staff at the QE11 were awesome. They were very helpful. Although they could not admit the Daughter that day, they certainly did try.
We made arrangements for someone to pick them up and take them back to the Lodge and pay the $70.00 for the room. We were then told that they had to pay an extra $100.00 security deposit plus the $70.00 because it was cash payment. This Lodge has people from PEI coming over all the time for Hospital appointments and they stay at the Lodge as it is supposed to be economical and a Non Profit Organization (there to help people). Our Government has made these arrangements many times and I am sure they will be made again in the future. I am making this public so hopefully no one else has to find themselves in this kind of situation. This lady and her daughter should not have had to go through all this upset. When I contacted the Lodge the girl was not at all helpful and was in fact very rude. On Monday morning when checking out, the original staff was on that was on when she first arrived and they were again very rude to her. When leaving, they would not allow her to use the phone to call a cab and she was told there was no shuttle for her. When the Mother contacted her worker on Monday morning, she was assured that the Lodge did in fact have the money for the room from the PEI Government. So this was entirely an error with the Lodge.
This lady is very quiet and reserved and I am positive she was very polite to the staff at the Lodge. It is too bad they are not as gracious as she.
I believe the actions of the person on the desk, her direct manager and the policy of the Point Pleasant Lodge be addressed and looked into by any services booking rooms for people who need assistance so this does not happen again. To turn a Mother and her disabled child out in the rain is totally unacceptable in today’s society.

Sandra Murphy

My husband required emergency surgery and we stayed at Point Pleasant for five nights. The lodge/hotel is non-smoking and our room was clean and quite comfortable. It is ideally located and we could walk back and forth for appointments with the Dr.s so it's very convenient. We would not hesitate to go back should we need to.
We did read reviews prior to staying and were actually prepared to go elsewhere if we weren't happy with the room. What we found was excellent, the staff were always helpful and pleasant and if you weren't interested in going out to eat, the in-house restaurant was great. The staff there were also good and provided good meals.
Parking and internet were available and overall this place is an excellent option. We were thankful for the opportunity to stay.

Within the first minute of arriving my blood pressure was up. Although I was booked in for the entire time of treatments, each time I came back on the weekend, they could find no booking. This happened every Mindsy that I returned. Very frustrating. Most of the staff at the desk were not friendly and could really care less. It was not a welcoming environment.
The rooms were clean but a couple times no one came to clean the room and bring fresh towels. The sheets were fresh and white but the blanket had cigarette burns in it. Every room I was in had a mattress that was rock hard. I did not sleep well.
Staff in the restaurant were not friendly. I dreaded going down for meals. Meals were usually good though.
The shuttle service was very helpful and the drivers were friendly. I never had to wait more than 5 or 10 minutes.
If people could be made to feel more welcome, it would be so much better.

I was afraid after reading all the poorly rated reviews. I only cared that it was clean had a private bathroom and a TV in the room...... I'm only in Halifax for treatment and must concentrate on getting better.

yes there is no fridge or thermostat or even shampoo and they charge $12/night for parking and $10/night for wifi....room charge was $70./night....which is the most reasonable price in the area that met our expectations above. PPL offers free shuttle to the hospital (10 minute walk) when feeling well enough. There is an expensive restaurant that offer take out for those not feeling so good days. Also tons of empty vending machines and laundry facilities. Sobey's and Superstore are also close by.

Our plan is when I'm there Monday to Friday for 6 weeks for treatment is to bring things like shampoo, a warm blanket and pillow, a kettle, blender and cooler (ice is free). Whatever makes it easier on our pocket book as travelling can be very costly and we need to concentrate on treatment and fighting this battle. We will keep all receipts for income tax as most can be recovered.

I figure with parking prices we will use the free shuttle service lots and as for wifi, I'll bring my ipad to the hospital (free wifi) and do all my communicating while I'm waiting....as I think I will be too fatigued to even care and my husband is a computer literate. So all in all it's what you make of it.

I just stayed two nights with a guest and want to give people some info about the Lodge.
1) There are no thermostats in the room so you are either going to freeze or boil.
2) Huge vending machine with nothing in it.
3) Cafeteria does not open until 7:30 so anyone with early appointments should be prepared to get breakfast at hospital.
4) NO COFFEE UNTIL 7:30 AM and then it is decaf. There are no coffee shops close by to walk to that open early.
5) Coke vending machine.
6) Use your phone alarm because our alarm clock did not work.
7) Be prepared to pay $10 per device for internet each night.
8) The shuttle service was very convenient but allow plenty of time to get to your appointment cause they are busy.

I will probably look at other options if I have to stay again. The shuttle service was the only positive aspect of our stay.

found DRUG COOKING SPOON by my bible. smoke detector did not work, blanket stained, tub not cleaned. No slippery when wet sign in the building, careful walking in if you stay in this drug den. front desk had nothing to say but sorry we will put a star by your name so we know your next say is in a clean room. Owner mr. Manuel refused to speak with me. This "hotel" has lack of parking, for $11.95 a night. wireless internet for $11.95 for ONE device for 24 hrs. Stayed at this hotel at least 5 time in 6 months and will never step foot in there again.

This hotel is a non profit specialty hotel. Everything met my needs. It was close to the hospital. There are grocery stores, drug store, and convenient store only steps away. My room was clean, when I arrived. Being sick, this is what should be a priority. Its not a fancy high end Vegas Hotel. It is only to provide basic needs. The staff was pleasant both at the front desk, and the house keeping staff. The only things I did not like, were the lack of screens in the windows, and the crappy little fan in the room. I was happy however to have a place to stay so close to the hospital. It met my needs.

We stayed there in August, 2014. After reading some of these reviews I wasn't sure If I should go there! However, my first impressions were , lobby very clean , front desk staff were helpful and friendly enough! The room was clean and first thing I did was pull back covers and checked out sheets, clean. Mattress cover completely zipped in mattress, Pillows left a little to be desired, but covers were clean. Seemed like pillows were older feather pillows , but zipped in. Rooms had no extras except soap and I think shampoo . No hair dryer, but had brought my own. Bedspreads darker colour but were okay. No carpet which I liked. Was not bit by any bugs. No trace of bugs. Room a bit on the small side but not tiny. Beds were twin but comfortable enough. Floors clean bathroom clean but some signs of aging. No smell in room. No dirty smell, no musty smell, no cleaner smell which I liked. I have travelled a fair bit and have stayed in some lovely places, this wasn't one of them, but was adequate for our needs and I would go back. The food was fair, and the dining room staff was varied in personality. We paid for parking and got parking. The wifi is an extra charge for wifi. If you are looking for luxury accommodations, this isn't it, but there is nothing terrible about this place and it is very close to the VG hospital.

This hotel is crawling with bed bugs. The management doesnt care how sick you are, only about how much money they can sneak out of you. There are dozens of other affordable options in this city, seriously pay another 40 bucks you can get a hospital rate at most of the other hotels in the city. At least then you wont get eaten alive by bed bugs or sleep on stained dirty sheets. The only reason this ratings getting half a star is because theres nothing lower than that. Dirty dirty dirty and disgusting management. Housekeeping manager swearing at a staff member while I was trying to get some rest in bed. Horrible staff.

Depending on who they have at the front desk. THE SERVICE is very diferent. Some of the staff are so friendly and try to help, while others act like you are an inconvience.

I would never recommend any one stay there.
Going to the hospital is stress-full enough.
Worse experience I ever had.

I spent two nights at Point Pleasant Lodge. The second morning I woke up with itchiness in my hands and arms. Later I developed some bumps on my arms and head. It turned out to be bed bug bites. Those guys need to seriously disinfect the lodge before more people get bitten.

Also, I brought to their attention that there was no shmpoo in the washroom the first night. They said that's weird! later I told them that there was no shampoo in the washroom for the second night. They said we don't supply shampoo. IS THAT CHEAP OR WHAT???

My husband and I stayed overnight at the Lodge recently. I was a little apprehensive due to the reviews I had read. However, we were pleasantly surprised to find the front desk staff pleasant and helpful and the 2nd floor accommodations perfectly adequate for our needs. The room was clean, fresh and the beds comfortable. Felt compelled to provide a review to give a more balanced view for those looking for reasonably priced short term accommodations. We are not seasoned travellers so our expectations were not high.

Some drawbacks: Parking is an issue but we did eventually find a street handy that allowed for overnight parking. We took advantage of the complementary shuttle service to get to and from the hospital - not luxurious but adequate. No canteen service other than vending machines on the basement level so best to pack some snacks. There is a nice cafeteria - restaurant style - open at particular times for breakfast, lunch and dinner. No 24 hr tea/coffee available - the one that bothered me the most:)

We travelled from pei for my daughters surgery checking in late in the day. We arrived to a smoltering hot room with just a little fan. We went to open the windows they don't even have screens. My daughter was not feeling well and it was so hot we wnet down to the desk at 5pm to check out and ask for a refund. The assistant manager was a rude and inconsiderate. She said we had to cancel by 4pm. I procedded to tell her it was only one hour past cancellation and we had no idea the condition of the rooms. The manager was completely rude to us upon check in. I asked the assistant manager if that was there policy to be rude and inconsiderate to people who were only here for medical reasons...she said she had no comment. I would highly reccommend you never stay there. They r the worst customer service I have EVER seen. Call around the delta would had given us a rate of 130 vs the 100 we paid to the lodge. They will aslo charge u 10 for wifi! If nothing else the we learned our lesson!
Comment by Bluenoser on Feb 12, 2014
I was up and my surgery was cancelled.
We checked out well before 4 but they still charged us for the night as well as the parking.
Even though you know they rented both out to someone else.
The staff was terrible.
I would never suggest any one stay there.

We upgraded our room to accommodate for handicap accessibility. Unfortunately their room did not accommodate the special requirements we needed. They were unwilling to provide a solution or return our money. Their customer service was extremely poor. During our follow up call to the assistant manager, she seemed uninterested and didn't offer an apology.

You are right.
My surgery was cancelled.
We had paid for two more nights.
We cancelled the room before 3 and they still charged us for the night as well as parking.
We had to park on the street the first night because they don't have enough parking.

I had just come over from the QEII,after a full day if test ,so I was not feeling the best in the world, and the first ones to greet me at the door were the staff at the front desk. They could not have been any more RUDE if they had tried. They are in the hospitality industary and I would have thought a smile on their fase and a warm greeting wouldn't hurt them that much. When one is not feeling all that well a little HELLO goes a long way. I know nothing will come of this note but I just had to getit off my chest. The rooms were clean and everything else was fine ,but the front people. Even when we left the next morning the girl at the front desk was Rude,so maybe that is part of their job,to be as RUDE as they can. Thank you for letting me vent. My thoght would be to give your employees a lesson in friendlyness and giving smiles. Simles don't cost a cent but mean a million.

As soon as i walked in the door i thought it would be a good stay but it did last too long. first my key didn't work. The staff was very rude. They don't have a maintenance working after 6 pm so if anything goes wrong front desk will come up an try to fix it but not likely. There is only 1 blow dryer in the whole hotel, housekeeping is the only ones that can bring it too you. If you don't return it once your done oh they will b calling for it. there is no guarantee for parking, take your changes on the side of the streets. finally my room was not clean, I had to sleep with my jacket on all night and couldn't get any extra blankets.PLEASE DON'T STAY THERE.Only gave it a half a star cause i had to put something in.0 out of 5 stars

My daughter is staying there taking care of somebody staying at the QEII. I paid $12 for Internet so she could Skype at night, and because she signed in on her iPod, they wouldn't let her sign in on her laptop. We called and explained she was there alone and wanted to Skype, and they didn't care one bit. They think we are stupid enough to not know what an easy fix this is. Cancel one, give a new code, but they are too rude to do it. Do not stay there. The will do nothing to help you, and don't care about their guests.
