My husband and I lived for 20 days at this hospice. The staff
were so ill equipped to deal with a couple completely distraught at knowing he was going to have to leave in a long and very painful journey. One can never be prepared for this, but we had only been together for 3.5 years, he had been sick for 2.5 years and I had been his sole caregiver. The lack of empathy and training was very evident by the behaviour of some of their staff, where at times it was absolutely, completely inappropriate. We were not permitted privacy in any way. My husband was treated with a distinct lack of dignity. Our last hours & days together were made even more anguishing because of our treatment there. The only saving grace were the 3 nurses;Barb,Sandra &Terry-Joe who were professional & empathetic. My baby passed away Jan.17/08 and to this day I am haunted by the lack of empathy,poor behaviour, administ-rative bunglings,lack of onsite support/resources for spouses &/or family members and poor judgement of management. Do not do this to your loved ones.
