I've been getting my eyebrows waxed by Nina for five years. She is absolutely amazing at it. I moved to Toronto 2 years ago and I have not found ANYBODY as good as her! and trust me I've been to many salons. I actually go back to Ottawa just for her... To some it might seem extreme, but to me it's worth it.

The brazilian wax was extremely painful and the girl was not very courteous. She wasn't friendly at all and I don't think she did a very good job. The room was not clean and I did not feel welcome in there. I've had other waxes done for a cheaper price and for a better service.

Yes, it's true, the front staff are generally rude and unpleasant, but I went to Nina for a Brazilian wax on the recommendations of two people, and was extremely satisfied. She's courteous, experienced, and fast. I would definitely see her again.

I have been going to Amalfi for just over 4 years now. I have to totally agree with the comments about reception (I work in customer service myself, and know that they're pretty far off their game). I do have to admit though, the staff at the front have gotten better since my first few experiences 4 years ago, but maybe that's just because they've gotten to know me as a regular.

I also have to agree about Beatrice being the best for Brazilians. I have had horrible experiences elsewhere, and even there with someone else. I no longer go to anyone but her. She makes you feel comfortable (or as comfortable as you can be with someone doing that to you) and it is obvious that she really enjoys her job.

I've had my hair done there 4 times now with 4 different people, and was extremely pleased with 3 of them. The 4th girl was a bit of a let down, I also had her do a brazilian once, which I won't have done with her again...She also had a bit of an attitude.

Basically, if you go to see the right people, you'll have an amazing experience, there are just a few bad seeds....

I go there for waxing and I always ask for Beatrice. She is the nicest and the best. She is gentle and fast so hardly any pain. I will admit that the front staff is not very friendly but i just ignore them.

I just had a Pedicure and Manicure done with my Wedding Party and we were all more than satisfied. We came in asking for more than we had booked and they all tried the best they could to accomodate us all. We got to bring in our wine and it was great. The staff were all friendly and accomodating. I guess everyone has a different taste in atmosphere and different expectations in salon/spa. As for me, I would definitely recommend The Amalfi Spa to anyone I know.....

I agree with some of the comments above.

I have been going to Almafi Spa for about 6 years now and I can tell you that the quality of serice depends on the person you get.

For eyebrows ask for Nina, she is the best!
FOr brazillan ask for Beatrice she is the best!

Once Beatrice wasn't there and I took a chance with someone else and got a new girl who pulled the wax strip of slowly leaving the hair still there...never again! No Beatrice no brazillan.

I went to the amalfi spa to get a bikini wax. The girl that helped me was really nice but I have never had a wax job this painful in my entire life. She pulled the wax slowly and pulled the wax off and no hair. OMG I wanted to vomit from pain. She did it again and got the same result and then a third time took all the hair off in one swift movement (finally).

I had the worst experience here!

I have been to Amalphi a couple times before and had okay service. The front desk staff aren't the friendliest and its true, they make you wait for your service, even though you have an appointment.

I had an appointment the other day for a brow waxing and I had to wait 15 minutes, until finally I asked the girl at the desk what was going on. She then called the aesthetician over and told her to see me. It was then that I realized she had been sitting in front of me the entire time!

During the waxing, I felt a bit pain, more than usual, and also felt that the lady was trying to be quick to get it over with. Once the waxing was done, she realized she had ripped a layer of my skin off on both brows!!! All she said was very weak "sorry", and told me that I should have let her know beforehand that I was sensitive. In that case she said she would have put powder on before waxing ( I am pretty sure they are supposed to put it on regardless).
After escorting me to the desk to pay, she ran off and didn't say anything.

I had to advise the girl at the desk of what happened, and she still had the audacity to charge me 12 dollars (a discounted price)to get my skin ripped off!

I had to go back later to get my money back! and even then, she made it seem like it was my fault and like she was doing me a favour.

In the end, she gave me a gift certificate for ANOTHER brow wax because they can't do refunds! Like I want to go back there after that awful experience.

There was no reason why that should have happened. I have had my brows waxed for years, and this has never happened to me before. Now, I have a very red scar under both eyebrows which were, as imagined, very irritating and sore.

All in all, the service was far from reasonable, and they should have deeply apologized for what they did and offered me my money back, at least!

Do not recommend this place. Its too bad for the other great aestheticians who work there.

The woman doing my manicure seemed annoyed with me, which made it a very uncomfortable experience. The place was filthy, and I felt like they couldn't wait for me to leave. I'll never go back.

I do agree with some of the comments about the front staff. They are a little bit rude. But if you want to have the best waxing experience you need to go there. The person I go to see if VERY nice and wonderfull!!(and she is always the same) She is patient with you when its your first time and she askes you how you are doing.( sometimes you just need a breather..lol)
It can be a bit pricey but I would be the extra for the awsome service.

I've had my hair cut twice there by the same hairdresser. First time, excellent, second time, I could have done a better job myself with dull scissors blindfolded in the dark. Won't be going there again for a haircut.

As for esthetic services, they are one of the better places that I've found for a pedicure in the byward market area. However, this also depends on which esthetician you get, and whether or not their hot water is working in the spa in the back. On two occasions I've had a cold water pedicure.

As for the reception treatment, I must agree with the previous reviews. On some occasions they are quick to get you a coffee and take your coat, and other times it's like you're invisible.

I agree with the previous comments. I've also been there a number of times and noticed that they treat their customers differently. To some people, they smile, act all nice and offer coffee while ignoring others. The last time I was there, they had me wait for more than 45 minutes even though I had an appointment and was a regular customer. When I asked what was taking so long, the girl looked like I was bothering her, and told me to go have a seat while "she checks it out." I don't know what the hiring process is, but the staff is rude and fake with no customer skills. I'm not going there anymore. I know it's in a convenient location, but frankly, I'd rather spend my hard earned dollar elsewhere.

I used to go to this salon about a year ago regularly (just because of the convenient location), and each time I would say to myself, "Never again!" Where do I start?! The front desk girls are very fake and seem bothered when you arrive. They made me uncomfortable most of the time. Usually there were about three of them chatting amongst themselves, and while one was serving me, the other two would either continue complaining loudly behind her about something or stop to icily stare at me like I had interrupted something important.
I got brazilian waxes there from a few different estheticians. I was appalled by one of their manners. She obviously didn't like her job or want to act friendly at all. Another girl seemed so inexperienced while she waxed me, I felt scared! She was smacking at her gum and the waxing job was horrible.
The decor of the place and the prices lead you to believe you're at a high-end salon, but continually the workers just ruined my experiences and it definitely did not feel like a high-class place. I felt like more of a nuisance to them than anything. Even when I had called and made appointments, I was led to the waiting area for often more than 10 or 15 minutes. The workers were always complaining loudly about their job or disagreeing about something or other.
You may think I sound like a difficult customer or something, but trust me, I gave them PLENTY of chances to prove me wrong. I am very easy-going (which is why I subjected myself to their poor service over and over again I guess!), and would not take the time to write these comments unless they were truly merited.
I did have a couple of positive experiences there. It's too bad I can't remember any names.
In a pinch, this place is better than nothing, but be ready for some less-than-great service. :(

Ive been there for a service. Paid $220 for nothing. The place was dirty and everyone was rude. I waited 35 minutes before one of the esthetitians sitting at the front came to greet me. A hair dresser was sitting at the bar, right beside me eating his lunch and drinking a coffee. I did not feel treated like a paying client, but like someone who was in the way!
