Very disappointing service. When I cancelled my membership I was asked to sign a "Cancellation of Membership". It turned out that I was actually signing something that confirmed that I wanted one more month of service at the gym (this was handwritten barely legibly at the bottom of the "cancellation of membership"). Like the reviewers below, they pressure you for your credit card when you first sign up even though I purchased my membership through Groupon. Now I know why they wanted my card, it's because they are in it to take your money.

The facilities themselves were so-so. It's great that they have a women's workout area however all the older equipment seems to be moved to this area. They say in the Groupon that you get 1 personal fitness session; the personal trainer double booked me twice and had to keep rescheduling me. To add, the building itself is old, every time it rained in the slightest, the roof leaked throughout the gym.

This gym has it's ups and downs, yes its dirty and run down , the showers suck , the bathroom is always filthy , the receptionist is the unfriendliest person I have ever met in my whole life and theres a couple of types of weights and some different kinds of work out equipment they dont have ie, kettle ball, bosu ball ect. They are also super unorganized with their money and what they are taking from you when and how and the personal trainer has very little knowledge of anything.

The ups, its huge, you never have to wait for a machine, they have every machine possible and a womens gym and a boxing gym which is never in use and i love to use to skip and box and i get it all to myself which is nice.

I struggled to even give this dump a half star.
I went to Venice for a couple of months and this is by far the worst gym I have even been too.
The ablutions, showers and spa pool (eh what spa pool) are rancid.
The machinery does not work and if it does it clanks its way to life. The weights are old worn and filthy, the weight machines are dangerous and very badly maintained.
Some of the staff are pretty nice, the guys in general there are very friendly, the girls well, Bitches with faces like a boxer dog chewing a wasp comes to mind.
Watch out for the Blonde Bimbo with the boobs and botox and wooo banging the big fat baldy boss (Jack)who claims to be connected to the Mafia and Hells Angels so therefor tries to frighten the wits out of you to pay,
Too much gossip goes on for such a small gym and the paying client does not need to hear that nonsense.

I have to agree that not only are the machines "outdated" (e.g. many TM with no HR measurement or anywhere to hold a water bottle), but many were broken. However, the gym has few people every time I visit so the advantage is you don't have to wait for a machine and there is a lot of space in class.

The shower is impossible--this may explain why the shower floor can be dry throughout the evening (nobody uses it). It would have only cost a few dollars to install a proper shower head. So if you live nearby, go home and shower. If you must shower before leaving the gym... good luck!

Wish the owner would spend some time on running a good business instead of trying to trick people into signing up for membership they don't want. (E.g. If you buy one of those group deal for 3 months, the staff will automatically sign you up for a year without even asking you. The staff will say you can cancel anytime but nowhere in the contract (which you will sign) says so. Also, they will ask for your credit card info even if you are in only for the group deal which you have already prepaid. Another poster on another site her Visa has been charged long after cancellation and also charged for personal training she never had. Furthermore, they will ask you to sign another thing saying it is so that you can get the same rate after a year - but actually the tiny words say you will continue your memberhip at the same rate after a year. That is, you are continuing your membership forever. Just beware and don't fall for any trick. Don't give them your credit card info if you are in for those group deals. (Pay cash for the deposit on the membership card.)

The staff are quite nice and friendly though--if they don't try to trick you into all kinds of contracts or credit card info. But I believe they are only following mandatory instrucitons from the owner to keep their job. They are probably as unhappy about doing so as the customers are.

I totally agree, a friend of mine filed a complaint about them with Visa. I really hope it goes somewhere.

Same thing happened to me, as they have continued to bill months after using the 3 months online deal - now for a total of $200+. Luckly VISA fraud department was able to refund 80% of the total.

Learned a pricy lesson about gym membership scam.
Will never join one again.

I also came in with my 3 months. They told me about signing up for the year but I simply declined. They asked for my credit card but there's no where on the voucher where it says to give it.
I've been members of gyms and been fitness sales of many as well.
You, the customer, should know what you're doing, it's up to you. There's no one to blame but yourself.
(ps. i'm not an employee or anything, just clearing things up)
... yes, fitness sales people are there to sell you on a yearly membership. And if you were to give your credit card and sign a CONTRACT, on the paper shouldn't it read somewhere that it is a yearly membership?? you're not just signing a blank sheet then they fill it after you leave are they?
I've heard this story many times.. and alot of the times these type of situations that post complaints are the ones that actually knew what they were doing because they needed to get fit or what have you and for some reason they dont want the membership anymore so they bad mouth the industry because, HEY, other people are doing it anyways, why shouldn't I, maybe it'll get somewhere.
Anyways, i said my piece. at the end of the day, it's the customer responsibility to know what the heck they're signing. and if it's a 3 month voucher for 29 or 39 or whatever the cost was,and it doesn't say anywhere that you have to sign a contract, then guess what, you dont have to and you were stupid enough to go along with it. i'm sorry to say.
I'm not saying you are stupid, no hate intended,..just read what you're signing

I was a member in 2005 for about 3 years and joined again in January 2011. I actually looked into joining Goodlife and Premier .. Goodlife way too expensive and Premier is a hole in the ground (Victoria Park club). Venice GYM was my only option and decided to give it a try. I’ve been there for 3 months now and very happy to say the least. Equipment is always available and in working condition. The equipment is not brand-new but it works and does the job. Members and staff are always friendly and the facilities are really nice. I would give it a 3 ½ star out of 5.
