The store is very nice and super clean. The staff is very friendly and of service. The quality of the food and produce is excellent if not impeccable! That being said I cannot give more than one star to the store because it is the most expensive store in the area and all that Sobeys cares about are stupid Air Miles and the cost of the program is reflected in the store prices, overall I would say that the prices at Sobeys are on average 10% more that at any other local store!
There are never any half decent sales at the store, look in the weekly flyers and compare with other stores in the area and you will hardly see anything at good sale prices in the Sobeys flyer, what you will see is "buy this item at an inflated price and get 2x or 3x Air Miles points!" Many of us don't have an Air Miles card and we don't want an Air Miles card and we don't give a flying whoop about Air Miles, we can't feed Air Miles to our kids! What we want is quality food at affordable prices and good weekly sales where we can get a break on some of the staple items!
The last straw for me came when the guy ahead of me went through the checkout with about $75 of groceries and got an Irving gas coupon and when I went through with my overflowing $400 cart I got no gas coupon because I don't have an Air Miles card! I was treated as a second class customer and realized that I was paying inflated prices to be treated as a customer of lesser value to Sobeys. The same $400 cart would have cost me about $30 t0 $40 less at another local store, which is way more value than the couple of dollars that I would have saved with the gas coupons and the stupid double Air Miles "sale" offered by Sobeys! I don't need to pass through the Sobeys checkout with $500 carts to be treated like a second class customer! I still go to the store on occasion if anything is at a worthy sale price of if I need items that I can't find anywhere else, other than that I don't shop there because I rather save 10% and buy items at real sale prices rather than collect useless Air Miles or be treated as dirt because I don't collect Air Miles!
