Additional business details
Celebrating over 75 years of providing Nova Scotians with efficient, responsible and regulated alcoholic beverage distribution and sales, the NSLC was created through the Liquor Control Act in 1930 as the Nova Scotia Liquor Commission.
Originally, the NSLC was responsible for all aspects of alcoholic beverage distribution and sale throughout the province. However, in 1946, responsibility for licensing bars, restaurants, and other sites for the sale of alcoholic beverages was transferred to the Tavern License Committee (which was later renamed to the Liquor License Board), and in 1995 included in the Alcohol and Gaming Authority as legislated through the Gaming Control Act of 1995.
In 2001, the NSLC was transformed from a Commission into a Crown Corporation, and renamed the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation. Its responsibilities were also enhanced to ensure the NSLC focuses on operating as a modern, efficient retailer.
