About Chicago Lamp Recycling & Batteries
The mercury is not good for health and when mercury-containing lamps (fluorescent and HID) are thrown into the general trash. The waste is sent to a municipal landfill, where exposed mercury filters into the ground, and eventually to our water supply. The aquatic animals absorb the mercury and pass it up the food chain. Most of us eat fish, and we also will eat the mercury because the fish concentrate mercury than any other aquatic animal. Continued exposure to mercury can cause significant chronic diseases to humans as well as to the natural eco-systems.
