I'm giving this store only half a star purely because of the amazing furniture they carry. However the management and sales associates of this store are the worst and lowest forms of scum to walk on this planet. We were born to treat people with respect and kindness and these people clearly don't see the proper fundamentals of life. The owner of this store has the biggest head and some body needs to take a needle and pop his "pride". Cosman's is officially closing down and I think we can all be very happy about this! This man is the rudest person I've ever encountered and he deserves to be closing down, I'm truly glad his shop is closing up and I really hope he has ran out of money. He doesn't deserve a penny of what people are willing to pay because he has serious social issues and bad customer service. I feel he is becoming lunatic because of his aging personality and I think he should relocate to a mental health facility.

Today on October 18th, 2012 I walked into the store because they had a closing sale that stated bar stools were as low as $10.00, but clearly nothing was ten dollars. I waited around for about 15-20 minutes until finally the disgusting old gray haired man that smelt of urine approached me asking why I was in his store. I nicely stated that I was interested in buying a few bar stools and I wanted to see a price range from lowest to highest. Clearly this old man couldn't comprehend what I was saying; maybe he was losing his mind? Who knows, anyways he was very pushy and stated that I must know my price and was implying that I was an idiot. I told him that if he is going to try and degrade me and come off as rude that I would leave and take my money elsewhere. I left the store furious, but I wanted to act professional and keep my temper at a low. I decided I would call the store and inform this man that he has the most vial mannerisms I have ever experienced and that I was very happy to know that his store was closing. He responded by saying this, "NO MONEY! NO MONEY! NO MONEY!" over and over again.

A grown man was shouting to a person a quarter of his age that I was poor and didn't have any money. Now let me ask you a question (whoever may be reading this), who is the child in this situation? I'm an 18 year old man and I know how treat people with respect, unlike this disgusting person who claims to be human. This review isn't bias, rude or ignorant. It's truthful and I'm very happy that his business will be no longer a part of my neighborhood.

I will never shop at this store again. I would give - stars but they don't offer that. The man was so rude and pushy. I really liked the stools that I wanted to buy but they were $300 each and I was hesitant. I wanted to take a picture to show my husband as $600 for 2 stools, I wanted to be sure he would like and we live 100 miles east of Wpg. He wouldn't let me take a picture and then told me he would include the tax in that price. I had my diabled mom in the van anwho had an appointment at the Health Science Centre around the corner from the store. I told him I would be back as it was near her appointment time now. He told me if I walked out of the store now without buying I wouldn't get that price even if I came back in 45 minutes. He also told me that I could spend the money after all if I had done kitchen renos and had stainless appliances I could afford these stools. I've never had anyone treat me and talk to me the way he did. DON"T GO THERE! If you do you will be real sorry for the abuse they hand out.

I lived in Canada for close to 10 years now and never came across a client service transaction that was as awful and shocking as this one. Geoffrey the owner of Cosman’s furniture hung up the phone on me refusing to listen to a complaint I had because of misleading information from his side that cost us a trip to Winnipeg to pick up our furniture in vain. He told me towards the end of a humiliating telephone conversation “DON’T SPOIL MY DAY and if you try to spoil your day, you can’t SPOIL MY DAY”. I wonder how this man could manage to run a business like this in Canada!!!! He is DISHONEST, UNETHICAL, ABUSIVE and extremelyyyyyyyyyyyyy RUDE. What Geoffrey doesn’t understand is that he was talking to a customer service specialist whom he extremely underestimated. I had extensive client service training thanks to working with a world class Canadian based company. One of the simplest rules that I learned was: “A SATISFIED CUSTOMER reports his satisfaction to ONLY 1 PERSON after having a good customer service experience, BUT AN UNSATISFIED CUSTOMER reports his disappointment to at least 10 PERSONS. So it wasn’t me who tried to spoil HIS DAY but He is the one who is SPOILING HIS BUSINESS.
Here is my disappointing story with COSMAN’S FURNITURE:
We are from Brandon MB and were looking for bar stools for quite some time until we happened to be in Winnipeg about a month ago and got information about Cosman’s Furniture from the web. We picked 5 bar stools and a bar table and paid over $2400 for the pieces which is obviously above average furniture prices in the city. Before we paid my husband asked if there was any sale on any of the pieces but we were told by Geoffrey, the owner, that he never puts his furniture on sale even on Boxing Day. But close to paying he promised my husband that he can take care of shipping the furniture to Brandon. After the ordered items were received by Cosman’s, Geoff gave me a call saying that the items have arrived. I asked him to ship them to Brandon but he scared me away saying that from experience assembled items doesn’t do well in shipping and that there are 2 bar stools already assembled and he recommends us picking up the furniture. My husband had to take half day off on Friday to manage to pick up our stuff. To our surprise, every single piece of furniture was fully assembled and put in a huge box, unlike what Geoff initially said that all furniture will be ordered and will come unassembled in boxes and that they will need simple assembling. We were so disappointed after seeing the huge boxes that we knew will not fit in our van, so we collected what could fit and asked him to ship the rest taking the risk of damage as he mentioned. We regretted going all the way to Winnipeg while not being able to pick up everything and that if Geoff was honest and accurate about the information he gave us we would have asked for shipping all pieces from the start. After all this hassle, he refused to pay for shipping as he initially promised my husband in our first visit to the store. He arranged for furniture to be paid by collector.
I regret dealing with Cosman’s furniture and can assure you that his furniture isn’t worth a bad and humiliating experience.

We purchased bar stools there years ago and was quite surprised by the honesty of the owner Geoff. He sells only quality merchandise and is one of the most honest and to the point people I have ever met. He tells it like it is he is not a say anything sales person to get some commission. We are now purchasing a beautiful sectional from him and again he has not changed and that is a good thing. You want great quality and customer service Cosmans is the place to go.

I found the sales woman very rude and condescending...telling me that I am wasting time if I dont have the exact measurements...I was just there to see what they had to offer....apparently very rude sales people. I will not be going there ever again.

About 5 years ago we made our first purchase at Cosman's and we were thrilled with our stools that we'd bought. This year when we bought and rennovated another house we knew that Cosman's was where we'd go to find our perfect stools for our new kitchen. The stools we bought yesterday were not at all what we came in looking for but after a very pushy sales pitch we decided that the stools could look and fit great in our kitchen. We saw one stool out of the eight that we purchased and all that was told to us was that the manufacturer had made a mistake (we assumed it was NOT a quality mistake but a mistake in shipping out too many or something along that line) We noticed AFTER our credit card had been accepted that FINAL SALE was written on the bill but still assumed, in good faith, that it was just becasue we'd gotten a great deal and not that something was wrong with the chairs and not that it was a FINAL SALE so that we wouldn't be able to return/exchange them. When the chairs were loaded into our truck they were loosely wrapped in bubble wrap on the upper part, to prevent damage as we traveled home I assumed, now I wonder if it was to hide the damage that they knew was already there. We got the chairs home and into our kitchen that night. We noticed right away that one chair had a crack in it, we thought it was no big deal, we'd just exchange it when we went back to pick up our other 3 chairs. In the morning we realized after us and our kids sat on and used the chairs for breakfast that these chairs were not ideal for our family. I thought for sure we'd be able to exchange them for other chairs that suited us better, isn't that what business is about? Satisfied customers? Apparently not at Cosman's. I am extremely disappointed in what I thought was a honest transaction. I feel that we got tricked into buying something that they just wanted to get off their hands and that they made it look like a deal we couldn't refuse just so they could get some damaged product out of the store. We are now stuck with damaged, unsuitable chairs. We clearly could have been smarter buyers and looked over each chair before we purchased them, but we assumed from our past positive experience there that there would be no reason to think twice about what was being sold to us. Apparently we are too trusting and maybe that's what we have to learn from this situation, it's just really too bad that this is how things had to turn out.

Geoff was very rude on the phone when we called to see what could be done about the situation and hung up on my husband. I am in shock that he can conduct business this way and still keep his store open.

A minus star rating. There are 2 sides to every story but the other negative reviews say it all. Jeff definately has Mental Health Issues. We have bought several thousands of dollars worth of furniture off this idiot in the past and went back for more abuse, whose the idiot. We just purchased a $1600 coffee table from Devon, Jeff was on vacation. The table was packed in 2 pieces and Devon showed us how to put it together from the display model. We live 100 kms out of Wpg. and when we got home and opened it up it had 2 distinct scratches on the base and the glass top did not line up to assemble to the base, out by several inches. Called Devon and told him. He said that he would have to consult with Jeff but that they could probably deliver another assembled table to us since it was their mistake. No go for Jeff, Jeff told us his delivery truck did not leave Wpg. and if we wanted another table that we would have to bring the table back to him by Fri.this was Wed. He was so rude and obnoxious to my husband on the phone that my husband hung up on him. When I called Jeff back to tell him that we would be bringing back the table the next day, he was rude and obnoxious to me as well but he hung up on me. This guy is crazy. We returned the table and he "screamed and yelled" at my husband, he was vibrating, he was in such a manic state, then locked my husband out of the store with the glass top in my husband's hand. My husband manages a multi million dollar business and is very level headed, but he came close to hitting Jeff, and he is not a violent person. It is hard to beleive that he could treat customers the way he did and does, I am serious when I say he acted like a "madman". We did not want the table, wanted a refund, this was absolutely out of the question, not happening. Probably should have called the police since he is across from the Public Safety Building. Poor Devon was several steps behind Jeff, cowering. Jeff eventually came out of the store, and berated Devon, in front of Devon, for giving us the wrong the base. He said that we had to "take it or leave it" but we were getting another assembled table, no refund, no appology, nothing. He had us, he had our money. Guess what, we will never ever shop there again and we were going to buy bar stools and another table off him before all this. He lost a good paying customer and several others since I am telling anyone who will listen to me to NOT shop at Cosman's on Princess in Winnipeg. There are several other higher end stores in Winnipeg that know how to treat their customers and want to do business, go there, we will from now on. Even Walmart treats their customers better than this fool.

I can't believe that this guy is still in business. I found him extremely aggressive and downright rude. I asked if I could take a picture of a bar stool that I was interested in so I could show my husband and literally shouted at me "NO, BRING HIM IN". I've been in this store one other time and recall now the rudeness from that visit, so I didn't even bother arguing with him... he just lost my business. Not only will he not get my money, but he'll also get a bad review to everyone I know!

Also, I can't believe that there are ANY positive reviews for this business, let alone 2. Which by the way, sound totally fake and made up. There's no way anyone had a good visit at this store. What a jerk!

There is no way to choose ZERO STARS ...

Never shop at Cosman's. Misleading and rude. FINAL SALE for everything ... despite NOT being made aware of this hidden detail. Reported to Better Business Bureau, but Cosman's owner did not care to respond.

All the other reviews of BAD SERVICE and RUDE STAFF are accurate.

Suggest everybody go to Cosman's.... spend a loooooong time with their sales staff.... write up a huge order ... then when the time comes to pay, simply say .. "Oh wait, you're the one that was rude to my friend..." and walk out. We need to start a FaceBook campaign like this ...

I live in Thunder Bay and was just passing through Winnipeg. Having just had granite installed in our three bathrooms and large kitchen at home, we were shopping for counter stools. Cosmans was our first stop. The treatment we received from "Jeff" defied description. Despite having the stools we loved, his approach and condescending attitude coupled with his aggression was shocking. How this man stays in business is beyond me. His roaring parting shot to me after he attempted to strong-arm me into purchasing 'right now' was: "I'm ready to write up the invoice NOW....you're either IN or you're IN THE WAY". Well Jeff...you don't push this lady around...I walked..with my two thousand dollars in cash firmly in my possession..and went down the street to successfuly deal with your competitor. Oh, did I say I TEACH assertiveness courses at a university level? I plan on using you as a poster boy for how NOT to treat others. You may want to swivel on your stools, and think about that.

i would never buy from this business again.. i was looking at some end tables and coffee tables.. where a girl was helping me.. i asked the girl if I could 10% off as another store had the same tables at a lower price.. the girl got the owner.. WHAT A JERK!! he actually said to me "thats fine.. I'll give you 10% off but you are cutting into her commission!!"..not a word of a lie..
If anyone rates this business as good.. they obviously are a personal friend of his.. no person in customer service and or who has visited this place would think this guy is polite.. Arrogent, rude, YES.. Professional NO>>

I just called the store making inquiries about a previous product that i purchased here. the man was extremely rude. he kept cutting me off and putting me on defense. i told him i purchased particular stools in Nov. 2008 and wanted to know if he kept a record of that purchase since i wanted to purchase more in the same colour and style. he told me to take a picture of it. i again asked if he kept a record and he said 'ya what you want me to do look it up?' i said yes...thats what i'm asking! whats to problem?' he continued to be rude and i said do you want my services or not...and he said ' do myself & your self a favor buy somewhere else.' too bad for him...this cost me nothing..and him EVERYTHING>. when i called back to speak to the owner he wouldn't give me his name. he asked for my name. i told him i wanted the manager/owners name and he said 'he's not in give me YOUR name.' what a complete jerk

it didn't end there..he refused to tell me who the manager was...he just demanded to know who i was. i told him i was 'the angry woman he was so rude to a few minutes ago' and he laughed and hung up!

Having viewed some of the comments on the service level at Cosmans, I have to strongly disagree with the negative input.
We went to buy two counter stools on November 15 and were greeted my Marc Legault who served us with courtesy, respect and effectiveness. Very professional, technically astute and receptive to all questions, he provided us with second to none service, superior to all other stores we had previously visited. Our decision to buy was easy. For future customers, ask for Marc himself, and you will have a positive experience.

Was looking for a barstool for my elderly mother. Asked to see some in a 26" height. I could tell right from the beginning that this man was not friendly. Salesman kept asking me how much I wanted to spend when I said I did not know how much it would cost for a barstool. He said I did not ask you how much it cost for a barstool. He said he had a wide variety of prices which I said to start on the low end. He still wanted to know what price range and I said that I needed something that would suit my mother at this height. He started to lecture me that I should know how much I was going to spend when you go looking for a barstool. He lectured me that I should have a price range in mind and he said I told him all about my mother but not a price range. He also said that if you want a $39.00 one that I should go to Wal-mart to get one. I never indicated that I was looking for a $39.00 chair. I was looking for a chair with the proper height. After his very rude tone and lecture I left the place. On my way out, I also told him how rude he was and his reply was "go and take a pill". I don't feel that a salesman or anyone should every speak to someone in such an arrogant tone, I also did not look or dressed like I couldn't afford it in that store but he sure had an air of arrogance in him. I run a business and if I every spoke to a customer like that I definitely would not be in business very long! Don't ever shop at this place. Very Very rude man! Not sure if he is the owner or just a salesman. No one needs to be treated like that!

Our shopping experience at Cosman's left us speechless.
We have never been subjected to such rudeness by the owner of a store.
We ended up not even finishing looking around the store because of his rudeness, and could have been quite interested in a couple of items. Good luck bad luck as we went to Bella Moda, and were treated with respect, and consequently purchased what we had been looking for.

Had the most ridiculous shopping experience. I was told I was not allowed to take a picture of a barstool I was very interested in because he didn't want his competitors to see his store. I assured him I just wanted to clear it with my designer. He asked if she had credentials and then dismissed her when she did not. Then he said someone once complained when they were photograped and the customer was shopping with a woman other than his wife. I looked around and pointed out we were the only two people in his store. He continued to tell one story after another for about 30 minutes. At which time I left without 4 of the $500.00 barstools.

Totally disagree and had opposite experience of last review as Crappy Cosman's. Owner was totally approachable and helpful. Beautiful and quality furniture. Was there 25 years ago for bar stools which are still in good shape but needed new ones for new kitchen. Still same quality of furniture and same good service. Have absolutely no complaints about this place and would recommend to anyone.

There is no way that this man could be nice to anyone. You had to look like you could afford to shop at this place. He judges you based on looks! What a jerk! I have never encounted such rudeness from someone.
Comment by jdi on Jul 05, 2011
I was dressed in very casual attire as I was on holiday, and in transit. Perhaps if I had entered this jerk's store in my usual business suit, I would have been treated with the respect that everyone deserves..but not so. My furniture purchases will continue...but NEVER at this establishment.

My husband, children and I were shopping one Saturday for bar stools for our new house. We went into Cosmans and had a bad experience as soon as we entered. We were not allowed to bring our stroller into the store, we had to carry our new born, and the owner provided no help with looking at stools. He did approach me and asked a few questions, but dismissed my answers and was completely rude. It was one of those shopping experiences where our age (we are a young couple) and our Saturday jeans/Tshirt attire, made him assume that we were not the right clientle for his shop. I HATE this! His incorrect assumption definetly made us shop else where. He lost our money and the money of our wealthy young friends! Don't shop there unless you enjoy being improperly judged, by a rude little man!
