It's time for this funeral director to retire. He had no bedside manner and gave my family several cringe worthy moments during my father's service.
1) Parked the hearse illegally on the wrong side of the road and asked all family members to do the same as we walked out of the church prior to going to the cemetery instead of just turning his car around.
2) Asked my mother (while she was greeting guests!) to go downstairs in the church basement and bring up a table for the guestbook.
3) Prior to entering the service our immediate family was having a support huddle - he walked up, clapped his hands and said, 'let's get this show on the road.'
4) He entered the church and announced loudly for the congregation, 'Sit when father says sit and stand when he says stand.'
5) At the cemetery, after my father was lowered into the grave - he walked around with the shovel and asked who felt like tossing some earth. Perhaps handing the shovel to my mother first would be an appropriate gesture?!
While supporting local community businesses is hugely important - avoid this one at all costs. You'll be paying for a shoddy experience and not the way you want to lay a loved one to rest.
