The Diversity Immigrant Visa program was created as a way to solve the immigration problems in the United States. The policy states that countries with more than 50,000 citizens who emigrated to America over the previous five years can not participate in the program, whereas countries with a lower emigration rate are allowed to participate in the Diversity Immigrant Visa program.The DV programs are named according to the year the winning applicants receive their green cards once they have completed all necessary steps in their immigration process. Therefore, the registration for the 2021 DV Lottery program opens October 2019.
