WARNING: Rodent Problem.

I've been storing my belongings in a 10x10 first floor unit here for over 2 years. I'm moving to a new place so went to move my things out and encountered significant rodent damage.

Rodents had chewed completely through my patio set, ruining it. They also chewed through the bottom of my wrapped love seat among other things.

There were mouse droppings and urine all over the unit and it was honestly disgusting.

They charge a premium price for their units (which continued to go up consistently) and I would have been better off storing my things in an outdoor barn.

I was not notified of any rodent issues within the building or I would have moved my things. I also was not informed of the multiple price increases.

Smartstop has been completely non communicative and I would recommend you stay far away from this business.

Excellent service. The young man who helped me was very polite, professional and took his time to show me different units as well as to explain different options and explain all the information in the agreement.

Very smooth experience. Marina is very helpful. There’s many large dollie’s available for free while moving your stuff. Never any issues with the units.

Marina was so helpful with our first storage unit ever! She made it easy and quick. I would definitely recommend this place if you are new to renting a storage unit!

I’ve rented with them for two years only bc I was not in Toronto. They increased my unit significantly without any notice throughout the time. Today I’m paying around 150 for a 5x5. The mice infestation… there was shit everywhere some people have already posted photos. I spent hours disinfecting my clothes and items. Disgusting. Will never go back there again. Unethical how they didn’t even send us an email about this situation and how it’s being handled. Or else I would have moved my stuff asap.

Artem was very helpful and professional in helping me choose a unit ideally suited to my needs. Also, it happened to be a very busy Saturday, with many other customers, all of whom needed attention, both in person and on the phone, and he handled it all very admirably, with excellent focus and patience.

Also, on my initial visit, a couple of days earlier, another employee, Rasula, helped me, and he was also very courteous and attentive.

This place has the best employees!

Very clean building and the service is always great - I’ve been here for about 3 months now and I feel very welcome and satisfied.
Marina is the best

Yesterday I visited SmartStop to rent a larger locker to store most of my furniture. Your service person (Marina) was excellent as she understood my problem, immediately located several options close to the loading area and provided very quick service. This young lady provided 5 star service and made me feel that my problem was of paramount importance to her and the company. Thank you Marina!!!

I have been renting from smart stop storage for 4 years and it has been a great experience. Everyone there is very friendly and the customer service is great. The prices are very competitive. I highly recommend them!

In 1 year my rent was increased from $300 a month to over $600 a month.

In the contract it states you need a written letter to increase rent. None were sent out.

And then when time comes to settle up for your last month they suddenly don't accept credit cards and demand cash or e-transfer - very strange.

I literally begged them to let me pay by credit card as I don't have cash - and of course no help or courtesy was offered.

Weird business. Looks like they prey on those who are potentially vulnerable and do so in an illegal manner.

I recently used Smart Self Storage and had a fantastic experience! Gulzar at the front desk was incredibly helpful, professional, and made the whole process smooth and stress-free. The facility is clean, well-organized, and secure. Highly recommend for anyone looking for reliable storage solutions!

Smartshop storage facilities are top notch. The storage spaces are clean, moving dollies always available, and spaces are well laid out and organized. The staff have always been super friendly, efficient, and available to assist when needed.

I was helped by Marina at this location and I have to say it was the most pleasant and easiest interaction I've had in a while. She had all the answers to my questions without me having to ask and she was very polite and friendly all around. Nothing but good vibes from this storage facility. Thanks Marina.

Excellent customer service!! Marina is always pleasant and goes above and beyond to provide outstanding customer service. We had a rather unusual emergency and the Marina at the wicksteed location were amazing! Highly recommend!!

I am so impressed with the new staff member lady on days at this location. I think her name is Marion? She really has been helpful in past 2 months way more than the day staff they had for 2 years!! She took notes and honored me as a customer, I told the last staff so many times that I cam pay on a certain day of month, they constantly called me bugging me every month and I would say, check your notes!! Stop calling me and pay attention to your customers needs! I highly recommend Marian. I really hope they give her a pay raise and even move her up fast in the company! She is wonderfuk with getting back to you right away and helping you and just making sure you are happy and stay on as a customer!! If she wasn't there I was about to cancel with Smart Stop Storage and go somewhere else to be honest.Thank you for finally having a great front staff member!! Give her a raise asap!!!

I signed with Smart stop storage six months ago and they had a promo which was amazing. I was really happy with it and then this month the new regular bill came and it was really too high for me. I couldn’t afford it and so I voiced my disappointment at the price and Armit was kind enough to look it over and renegotiate something that was affordable for me. I am pleased with the outcome, and I will be staying there for quite some time

RENT HERE AT YOUR OWN RISK!
The Issues:
- CARTS: NEVER enough carts to move your things; this was the case 14 months ago on move-in day and throughout the time since. It didn't matter if it was the middle of the week or the weekend; middle of the month or end of month; middle of the morning or afternoon or late night - it was a mystery as to where the carts disappeared to and we were usually one of at least 2 sets of customers walking up and down the aisles searching for a fellow customer who HAD a cart to ask if we could have it once they were finished with it - ridiculous!
- PRICING: I'm very familiar with the business model of storage facilities in the GTA so not surprised at the price increases. What I WAS surprised by was that the owners VIOLATED the rental agreement they signed with me by not telling me in advance, in writing - as spelled out in the contract, by at least 10 days - that they were going to increase the rent. Nope, they simply charged my credit card the additional $30! That - along with the next point - is the reason I cancelled my tenancy with them. Oh, and by the way, when I wrote to them telling them they were in violation of our contractual agreement and needed to refund me the increase + associated taxes for the month? CRICKETS!
- MICE INFESTATION: Someone else wrote about it. I'm uploading photos and video. It's disgusting and of course took extra time (well worth it, of course) to scrub our belongings to ensure we were not transporting mice to our new storage facility.

It's beyond me how this facility has a 4.7 score based on reviews because the experience over the past 14 months has been a 1* one! RENTER BEWARE!

Artem was a phenomenal help! We had called to see a 5x10 unit and after our visit, the unit was paid and rented out by someone online. He went out of his way to ensure we got a unit today. Within 20 minutes, he found us another unit, for an even better price, and signed all the paperwork. We were in a big rush so this was extremely appreciated. So far a great experience at this location!

I used this storage facility and found it exceptionally clean and secure, even after hours. Artem provided excellent customer service and made lease termination straightforward. Highly recommended for anyone needing hassle-free storage!
