Altima Dental Centre, Toronto Reviews (4)
Not surprisingly, this specific clinic appeared on CBC marketplace on an undercover report regarding cons in the dental industry. After having been a patient for two years and informing them that I would be leaving due to the incompetence of their admin staff to get my insurance billing correct a single time, without informing me they fraudulently billed my credit card. They attempted to claim they had called me, however I guess they should educate themselves in technology and how a comparison between phone records and billing records show they broke the law. Next call is to the BBB and then my lawyer.
I am now faced with the same problem. My insurance gave me 100 % coverage for the procedure they did. They sent me a whopping bill without any specifcs listed and already charged it to my credit card when insurance paid the bill. I am currently trying to be re-embursed but am having a difficult time as their manager anonymously called me.
I got to Altima @ First Canadian Place because the staff there are wonderful, inviting and efficient! They get you in and out without wasting time. I also like this dental clinic because it is only 2 blocks from my office and they can accommodate me for dental cleanings before or after work so it is really convenient! I have already recommended this place to some of my co-workers who also already go here and my family!
I had a dental cleaning at Altima Dental and I was very dissatisfied with my experience and though you they are conveniently located by my office, I will never use their service in the future. I had a hygienist by the name of Allison I think. I'm not sure she knew what she was doing. Most dentists or hygienists would clean each tooth in order (which logical sense) to keep track of which tooth has been cleaned. Allison would go back and forth to different a tooth so many times that I'm not sure she was able to keep track. When she did do the cleaning of the tooth, it didn't feel like she was cleaning it properly. For most of the teeth she would simply lightly scrape it with the probe which I could have done with my finger nail. Whenever I had a hygienist do my cleaning in the past, I would also be seen by a dentist after the cleaning which would make sense since the dentist would be able to not only inspect the cleaning but to make sure there were no other issues I should be aware of. This was never done. And I had to pay $200 for this??!?!? Never again!!!
Hi Mencius,
We are sorry to hear that your experience was not to your satisfaction. From your posting, it appears that there are some misconceptions about your hygiene expectations. We would like to take this opportunity to respond:
1. There is no specific order in which to scale teeth. A hygienist may have his or her own starting point and on occasion go back to a certain tooth to verify that there is no residual build-up.
2. Feeling like your teeth are being scraped firmly does not mean that you are getting a better cleaning - arbitrary heavy scaling can actually damage teeth by removing the thin cementum layer covering the roots. Hygienists will apply pressure on the scaler against the tooth as needed. If there isn’t excessive build-up, a light scaling may be all that is required.
3. Hygienists are preventative oral health professionals. If a patient visits the dental centre regularly and is up-to-date with recall examinations, the dentist does not need to see the patient after each visit. It is also not necessary for the dentist to inspect a ‘cleaning’.
At Altima, patient service is our highest priority. In the future, please do not hesitate to approach any of the Team Members at the clinic with questions or concerns. You are also welcome to send us feedback through the Contact Us section on our website: http://www.altimadental.com/contact-us

The hygienist should clean teeth is a logical order or quadrants. I also think the dentist should examine the patient after each cleaning appoint. Hard and soft tissue lesions can start between your six month checkups that why they are called checkups. That would be like going for a physical with your physician and the nurse draws blood and sends you home without seeing or talking to the Dr. I'm just saying.......
Altima Dental Centre is just AMAZING! Before I came to Altima I was always hiding my smile, but Altima Made my smile amazing that I can't stop smiling. :)
I came to Altima to get braces, the dentist explained everything that was going to happen during the procedure, what i had to avoid, and do. When i got my braces off my smile was just amazing. When i had a dental emergency, i called Altima and right away they told me i could come in right away. Altima has over 30 locations so it was never hard for me to find a centre. I love Altima and i recommend it to everyone.
Thanks Altima for you amazing services :)
