Dr. Jane is a Superstar! She knows exactly how to handle kids, their anxieties and fears. We have been going to her for the last 7 years and look forward to every visit. My kids love Dr. Jane and all her staff.

I went to Dr. Gillanders last year for a cavity for my child who, in all fairness, was apprehensive about dental work. We were referred to them because they were "excellent" with children. They are a children's dentistry after all, and definitely charge accordingly and generously for this specialized service.
You would think with that labelling (and cost) they would be proficient with handling any situation, but Dr. Gillanders in particular was a dreadful.
I did read the other past reviews and she seems quite good at her job, but it seems she may have lost her way. Perhaps at some point in her career she enjoyed what she did, but I only saw a very impatient, rude, ignorant person who has very little people skills.
We tried an attempt at filling my child's cavity using gas and it wasn't successful so we ended up with: a temporary filling; unpleasant staff; and a large bill…..AND we still needed to make a proper filling. After speaking with my child she wanted to try it again and was determined to complete the task, so she I returned in person to make a new appointment with the receptionist. Dr. Gillanders must have overheard the conversation and slid out on her chair and immediately said "your child is NOT capable of this and we won't treat her" These are her words exactly.
Dr. Gillanders does NOT deserve our patronage and she is a poor example of her profession. Retirement would be my recommendation. Dr. Gillanders sounds fine if everything is easy. The minute a child has any apprehension take your loved ones and your credit card and get out of there. I would HIGHLY NOT recommend this business, and we have happily moved on to another children's dentist.

We were referred to Dr. Jane Gillanders for our daughter. She had a few cavities that needed filling and was anxious at out regular dentist. The experience for daughter was a pleasant one and Dr. Gillanders was very empathetic and gentle with our daughter. I would definitely recommend her.

Who cares if the receptionist isn't the happiest person on the planet? Would you be if you were in her shoes?? What matters is that Dr.Gillanders is professional and cares about your child's well-being. I have been taking my kids there for around 8 years and am very happy with the environment and the staff. Gillanders gives me a summary of each of my boys teeth every time I go, and I find her to be down to earth, pleasant and knowledgable. My kids never complain about going there, and never complain about the staff either. To give this dentist a half star shouldn't be allowed! Overall, this dentist should have no less than a 4 star rating.

My kids have been going to Dr. Jane for MANY years and we've had nothing but positive experiences. I have appreciated the reminder calls a month or so before appointments (often booked months ahead, when no one knows what their plans are, allowing them time to rebook). I've never been treated rudely by anyone in that practice. Regarding the fees being higher by 20%, Dr. Jane, as noted is a specialist and ALL specialty practioners charge more than a GP. Be grateful, other specialists charge double or more than a GP. Important to note: The ODA Fee Guide, is simply that, a guideline and all dentist can set their own fees. I know, I work in dentistry (not for Dr.Jane) and can vouch for the specialty fields of which I speak. What is important is that the office runs under excellent infection control procedures-sterilization and PPE-personal protective equipment (gloves, masks etc) using current practice standards. Regarding the fluoride being sprayed on, unless they've started using something new in the last 6 months, I've only experienced them brushing it on (far more tolerable than having fluoride trays sitting in your mouth for several minutes. The enamel fluorosis part,I just don't buy. One would have to be subjected to excess amounts of fluoride. I know we are all entitled to our own opinion, and this is mine. Dr. Jane's office is wonderful and I'm glad my kids are with her.

i live in the beach and want to take my 2 year old to the dentist for the first time. I called Beach Kids Dentistry and "Evelyn' told me they charge "20% higher because they're kids' specialits". She said the new patient exam is $150. I was a bit shocked and made some calls around. I found out that the current dentist fee guide for new patient exams for kids (code 01101)is $60. I called other pediatric dentists and the quotes were for between $60-75. I found out the fee guide for new adult patient exams is $120 (code 01103. I called Evelyn back to see if there was some error. No, she stuck with her 20% higher story. In fact, they are 20% higher than ADULT examinations, but 120%!! higher than other new kids examinations, including the quotes from other pediatric specialists.

My daughter went in for her very first dental exam at Beach Kids Dentistry. The office is very nicely decorated with beautiful colors, and has a cute little play area for the kids to play in. It was very clean and kid friendly with a beach theme. The staff was very polite and courteous. Being my daughter's first time, Dr. Gillanders took her and I on a tour of the office first and explained what everything was in the office. She also took the time to explain to her what all the instruments were prior to using them. I was very impressed with our whole experience there. Also, Dr. Gillanders took her time to explain her findings, giving me an opportunity to ask questions, and we didn't feel rushed at all. Even though my daughter was a little nervous at first, they made a point to make her and I both feel as comfortable as possible. I would highly recommend this dental practice!Loved it!

Both of my children have attended Dr. Gillanders office since they were wee and have grown into happy, confident dental patients under her care. Beach Kids Dentistry (BKD)is a modern, well-run practice with highly trained, cheerful staff. All of our experiences have been pleasant and we find Dr. Gillanders to be most caring and informative. Her years of expertise have been invaluable in handling my older son's more complex dental proplems. I know my children are in the best hands at this wonderful clinic! I have to say I was quite surprised at the previous reviews, I live in the area and have only heard positive things about BKD!! Trust me when I say you cannot find many peaditric dentists with Dr. Gillanders level of training and experience. My kids will not go anywhere else! Thank-you BKD!

Living in the Beaches makes me so happy because it consists of its own little community and it's very easy to "shop local". When my children were old enough to see the dentist, I was excited to take them to Beach Kids Dentistry. The first visit was cold, but fine. What I mean by cold is that I totally agree with the previous 2 comments about the staff and Dr. Gillanders being abrupt and rude. The second visit was a complete disaster. My daughter (3 1/2 at the time) was nervous at the prospect of going to the dentist again (she probably didn't remember her previous visit), and she always does well by knowing what's going to happen next. She sat in the chair for about 5 minutes before the dental assistant and Dr. Gillanders joined us. They 2 of them proceeded to have a debate about something, all the while brandishing the metal "picks" in my daughter's face. Of course, by the time they decided to end their debate and look in my daughter's mouth, the poor little one was terrified of the tools and picks in her mouth! So, she started crying...I took her out of the chair and tried calming her down when Dr. Gillanders came in and said very sternly: "Your daughter's crying is upsetting ALL OF MY OTHER patients, please leave." Isabella then asked if she could at least have a toothbrush and they said NO. Not only did they traumatize her, but they chose NOT to take the opportunity to at least promote good dental hygiene by giving her a toothbrush! BRUTAL!!!

We walked into the place and while the kids play area was fun, the receptionist was a snob. When I asked about their procedures, she mentioned that they actually spray condensed fluoride on the children's baby teeth! Anyone researching it will know that it is an otherwise toxic substance. The City of Toronto is reducing the parts /million in the drinking water as fluorosis was a continuing problem with children. Studies have shown a high co-relation between economic wealth and tooth decay - the richer and better educated, the fewer cavities. If you want a holistic dentist try United Smiles of Kensington. They have common sense about fluoride - it is not needed on baby teeth and it is unhealthy...

My son has been a patient of Beach kids for almost 2 years. He loves it there.
If you want a fantastic, clean comfortable facility, go there. If you can stand the snobbery of the staff and Dr. Gillanders herself. I find the staff and Dr. G often rude and holier-than-thou. If you can look past that, it's great, especially for kids who have a fear of the dentist.
Beware however, dental care is 20% higher than most dentists, because they are a "specialty" denist (i.e. pediatric)....and they will charge you for every possible service.
