Sunrise Housing CO-OP, Vancouver Reviews (2)
Looks so nice after Reno! Inside & out is updated. Members are friendly & have a strong sense of community. Happy to call it home.
Unit maintenance is horrible, every part of the building needs updating, the building is about to go through an intensive construction period, after which your "cheap rent" is going out the window, and you will be expected to pay "market" rent, but without that "market" clean and maintained.
The decks are currently being held up by 2 x 4 supports, and have been for quite some time.
The inner hallways have boards nailed to them to cover he numerous holes in the wall due to plumbing issues.
The rot inside the outer walls permiates the suites with a damp and ugly smell.
The heat registers in many of the units work only on maximum heat, or no heat at all.
The main redeeming factor is the vicinity to commercial drive, which provides many lifestyle benefits. Also, the vicinity to public transit and a bike route is also and added bonus, however the skytrain station can get a little rough at times.
In the summertime, a large group (sometimes as many as 30) of junkies likes to "hang out" in the alley, the police and neighborhood watch programs have been trying to clean this problem up, however quite a few junkies can be seen entering and leaving neighboring apartment buildings on a regular basis, so this may take some time.

It's 2012 and after a year of re-piping, roof replacement, and re-envelope repairs, Sunrise is a stylish looking co-op!
The building exterior is green and taupe with black railing accents. The interior flooring has been upgraded to wood laminate and all suites are inspected annually.
Members strive to make Sunrise a diverse neighbourhood community and seek applicants who are committed to affordable living by becoming active co-op residents.
