Kimono Japanese Grill & Sushi, Toronto Reviews (5)
Great sushi. LOVE the butterfish rolls. The lunch specials are really inexpensive and filling.
Why would I eat here?
If you live/work in the neighborhood....they have a cheap lunch special.
I eat at Kimono about once a week.. I love it there. Today they told me that it was a "special" day and that they did not have any avocado. I amost passed out... no dynamite maki..no salmon avocado.. I couldn't even order a California roll! I decided to order my dynamite maki with cucumber instead of avocado and salmon cucumber.. it was alright I guess.. lutz.n49.ca would have loved it. It was crunchy. :)
go crunchy go!!
i like that they turned a deficiency into a "special" day. happy avocado-free day!
I still love Kimono..Today I ordered spicy butter fish and salmon avocado with two miso soups and It's just delicious!
Kimono provides a lunch special, which they prepare in a matter of minutes, that, after the 15% discount you get for getting the what out of their restaurant (take out), costs only $6.78. This gets you a miso soup (delish), salad (lettuce...but who can resist that orange goo on it), and 12, yes twelve, sushi rolls (two types). With a deal like that, I have no right to complain. But rights are for sissies (according to the US, but who will miss the fifth amendment anyway)so here I go complaining:
Kimono, your wasabi is weak. I couldn't clear my sinuses with it if I wanted to. I realize you are low end sushi and that there is no way I should expect actual wasabi (most places use dyed horseradish), but you still need to step it up.
Kimono, they are rolls. Roll them. I dont want them to fall apart. It saddens or angers me, depending on the day.
Kimono, more veggie options (though the yam is delish!). Im just sayin'.
I would still recommend Kimono from time to time. They are quick, tasty, friendly, and inexpensive, wonderfully inexpensive.

Yikes. The thought of "low-end" raw fish scares me. Like, eating "marginal" fish from Lake Erie.
yes, it is a good thing i dont really eat fish.
They have changed their orange salad dressing. It's more of a brown and does not taste good. I suggest ordering 2 miso soup instead.
Judging from the amount of sushi reviews n49ers have been churning out, I have the feeling that the answer to the aforementioned title question is "yes please". The quest for the perfect sushi roll, much like the quest for the perfect pizza, cocktail, or break-up line, is a long and arduous journey that may never end.
It also may (read: most definetly will) burn a hole in your wallet. Sushi, good sushi that is, does not run cheap, which makes this quest exceptionally difficult for a penny-pinching student like myself. But when you find that hidden gem of a discount lunch special, you can feel victory coursing through your cheapskate veins.
This was the feeling I had today when I found myself craving sushi. To my dismay, I had to resort to reciting my daily affirmation: "no Jenny, pay day is tomorrow and you don't have any coupons". I was about to settle for a couple slices of cucumber and perhaps some leftover bagel scraps until jennifer.n49.ca told me about Kimono. For $6.99 ($6.99!!!!!!!!) you are rewarded with two different kinds of sushi, a salad, and a miso soup. I chose the Dynamite Roll and the California Roll (because I'm a pseudo sushi lover and don't REALLY like the taste of raw fish at all) and they were pretty darn good. If you don't mind the taste of warm, over ripened, mushy avocado, then this place is for you. The salad was nothing to scoff at either. What looked like orange bird doodoo spread over my lettuce turned out to be a pallette-pleasing carrot ginger dressing. I will choose not to comment on the miso soup because I hate it and am subsequently biased.
Back to me being a discount fiend, what I REALLY enjoyed about this place was the 15% off pick up orders. So my total for this spread was only $6.78...not bad for 12 rolls of sushi! I thought at first that the people working at the restaurant just really liked me and my cheery disposition but I was quickly corrected when I asked if this was the case.
VERDICT: Definetly not the best sushi I've ever had, but for $6.78 I'd go back again, disgusting avocado and all.

they give me free green tea and edammame when i go. Sucka! Also the perfect breakup line: Look "name of the person who used to warm the other half of your bed", its over, really it is. I could give you an exhausting list of the reasons why, but just take this complimentary break up drink instead! Its a double!
Yum! I love going here for lunch. They serve nice portions and I always leave feeling stuffed! I love their miso soup and tempura, but I really don't like their salad dressing.
Maybe I will go there for lunch today!

We go to kimono almost once a week and we have never reviewed it...
I think mbako.n49.ca was supposed to. *shrug*
You should try eating in and getting one of the bento boxes. They're very filling and have a good amount of tempura...mmm...yummy.
