So, its the best variety of the most decadent pastries I've had. Its sinnful to the wasteline for sure. But the staff leaves you standing for minutes at a time while they "putter" behind the counter. Definitely makes you feel like your imposing.

But the stuff is to DIE FOR!!!!!!!!!

Veronica.n49.ca ordered a birthday cake for our co-worker Deanna. As you can see it is beautiful! Everyone in the office said it was delish... sort of a chocolate, caramel meringue.

Neat cake! Looks original, not the usually b-day cake look... sounds like it was good too. :) Anything caramel is a good thing... IMO

Most days my financial status sits somewhere between poor and "holy shit I am broke what can I sell?". For my birthday my parents sent me a bit of money which was to be used "on something for yourself, Katherine, NOT YOUR BILLS." Now everyone knows that you dont cross your parents so I did (sorry Rogers, Fido, and Visa).

To begin my journey to self indulgence I decided to tell the 89 cent noodles and salt/chemical compound to hit the road. I went to Phipps in search of some veggies.

Now there are givens when you go to Phipps:
1. Their staff is so far from friendly they threaten to hit surly
2. You will have to look at more silicon and botox then you knew existed (this is specific to Forest Hill, not this location)
3. You will encounter at least one of those annying 13 year-olds with a coach purse, their parents credit card, and all the charms of a used tissue. A used tissue that thinks its the shiz.

BUT, Phipps makes absolutely delicious, ableit overpriced, homemade soups, nearly all of them vegetarian. Their salad bar is one of the best I have seen (you go small or large, none of this pay-by-weight crap. pile it on!), and they have great special meal options.

They change specials daily, so you could theoretically eat lunch there every single day and not be bored.

Bottom Line: bad service, obnoxious co-patrons, but reliably delicious food.

Is the best from Phipps. There was one time a really nice lady helped me...but just the once!

Deserters, both of you

HA! so true about the rich-in-training tweens. the worst is when they come in packs and sit outside, all picking at one caesar salad (hold the bacon, croutons, cheese, and dressing) and discussing the latest must-haves for fall or who did what on perezhilton.com. because of this, i do not blame the staff for being ridiculously unfriendly. that being said, ive seen the tip jar so really they should just suck it up.

p.s. the falafel balls are hands-down the best i've ever had. even a discount diva like myself will shell $7 for a few of these bad boys.

and that's all i can say about most of the staff at this really cute little bakery. Now .. what on earth is the owner thinking when hiring the new employees. Or is this a new trend in we don't give a damn about the costumer cuz even though we have overpriced menu people still keep coming back?

Its really a shame because its one of my favorite places to eat lunch. Everything on their menu is really tasty. Level above really. But the staff? i just can't get over it!!

And its not only me who notices this sour faces of theirs .. it's been a subject among us at work once or twice

The last time I went to Phipps I had a great experience with the staff. The lady serving me even said that she loved my haircut.
Maybe it seemed so nice because I'm used to the bad treatment???

the prices are pretty insane, which would be okay if you didnt costantly feel like you were inconveniencing those working there

Deanna and I wanted to have lunch together today at work. She had already brought a lunch so I wondered down to Phipps so I could get something and bring it back to the office. There is always something new to choose from as they have new specials every day. They do their specials on a rotation, so at least one day a week your favourite will come up!
With so many things to choose from it was hard to make a decision. The salad bar looked great and so did the Spinach Lasagna. After some time I ended up with the Mozzarella and Tomato Basil Sandwich (which they heated up for me) and brought it back to the office. It was a little on the expensive side for a sandwich but tasty...
