My parents used them to do a warranty replacement on their furnace. A furnace that Fagnans had initially installed. They were charged $630 for “administrative fees”. I would definitely not recommend them, unless you need your wallet lightened unnecessarily. Robbers!!!!!

It was on a cold October night that Atco shut off my furnace (high CO emissions)...so I called Fagnans, talked with Glenn at length about solutions and costs. Shortly after 7 am Ken Fagnan called and offered same day service for a new furnace and water heater at a very fair price (thank you sir)...By 8am Jack was in the basement taking measurements...shortly after 9am Will and Aaron arrived with a truck full of supplies...they removed the furnace, the water heater and old venting that was not code. By 4pm they had replaced the furnace, the water heater and redone all the venting, cleaned everything up and showed me how to program the thermostat..a days work anyone could be proud of...thx Will and Aaron, really well done, the inspector said as much....so the time between Atco shutting my heat off and having the installation completed was 21 hours. I didn't think it could be done but in fact they also redid the venting to code, installed three CO detectors and cleaned up every bit of debris..all at the agreed upon price. Not everyone would say their furnace breaking down on a cold night is good fortune, but I have a high quality upgrade to my house and I do feel lucky to have enjoyed such professional, same day service with some extras thrown in at a very fair price....many thanks to everyone who cared enough to get it done. That's my story, it' all true....I suggest your first call for service should be to Fagnans....

After lots of quotes and reading everything I could find I had a new Carrier furnace installed by Fagan's this week. They gave me more options than any other company. They were the only company to even suggest putting in a condensation pump to prevent a floor pipe tripping hazard.
John and Dave did a great job on the installation! When they went to run the furnace it would not start. They went the extra mile to determine the new thermostat was faulty and had blown a fuse. One new fuse and my old thermostat latter and we had heat! The next day the service techs came and replaced the thermostat.
Anyone can look good when everything goes well. The effort shown when there was what turned out to be a minor problem shows the company's true color! I would highly recommend them.

My air conditioner was fixed today by Daniel from Fagnan's. I am extremely happy with his knowledge and ability to fix the problem. He explained everything to me and showed me what was going on. He is a very friendly person and I was very pleased to finally have someone to fix the problem and at a much better price than the other person that came out who charged me over twice the price and never fixed a thing. Thank you very much Fagnan's and also Thanks to Fred who always kept in touch and for sending Daniel out!! :)

My husband was away, the AC Froze up, super hot outside and 2 sick kids! I spoke to an "on call" guy on the phone who helped me figure out the solution to the problem. Thanks to him we saved a lot of money and avoided a bigger problem. Thank you! That was so great! - June 5/16.

I live in Okotoks and after being without heat for over 24 hours, with another local company unable to fix the problem they recommended Fagnan's. When a competitor is recommending them that say's something. I called into Fagnan's service department around 8:30am and a technician was at my door by 10am. He had all the parts necessary and spent the extra time to ensure my (intermittent) issue was finally resolved properly.

It is an easy choice for my family to call them first the next time something comes up.

I have not been able to have the problem with my furnace resolved.
No one has been able to tell me why my windows are so steamed up that the water collects on them and when it gets below 0 C the windows freeze up from all the excess moisture.
Mold and mildew are appearing along the bottom of the sliding tracks.
I do not have a humidifier.

Dear Customer

The furnace is functioning as per manufactures specifications and recommendations; as well the installation has been inspected by the City permit inspectors and has passed all requirements in installation and venting to current City of Calgary codes and standards.

We have had technicians to your home on Oct 29/15 and Nov 5/15 to adjust the air circulation on the thermostat and as a result the humidity percentage decreased in your home. Our technicians have found some areas within your home that could help reduce humidity that would have to be repaired at your own convenience. As well are technicians have suggested more options without cost to you that can be done by Fagnans Furnace Service that we are waiting approval from you on. Our technicians have also suggested added features to the existing system that will decrease humidity and can be installed at an additional fee.

Fagnans Furnace Service is open 6 days a week, with a 24hr emergency call service, please contact us to discuss these options at your earliest convenience.

On June 17, 2015 Fagnans repaired our furnace. They sent Ismail to do the repair. He first tried everything he could to repair without replacing the part, (not many will do that, and I recommend him for doing that), but it had to be done. He was very courteous and you could tell that he cared.
I fully recommend Fagnans for that reason. Not many companies out there really care! Thank you Fagnans and Ismail, I will certainly use you again if needed.

We had our furnace installed by Fagnan's five years ago. On a Friday our heat had stopped working and had been advised by a family friend that a place needed to be replaced. We called Fagnan's as the furnace was still under warranty however, the part was not available until Monday as the supplier was closed - this is over the coldest weekend we've had this year. When the technicians finally finished replacing the parts on Monday, the labor costs was astoundingly more than what we expected as this was not what was discussed with the serviceman who had done the initial inspection. When we called the office to speak with the owner, whether it was Kyle or Ken we aren't sure, instead of being helpful, he deflected on the issue that he had to pay for the parts out of pocket until he could be compensated in 60 days, and that the labor includes the cost of the technicians having to go and get the parts from the supplier. As a customer, we have no control over how a business owner runs his company - having supplies on hand in store, or how costing is managed with warranties. As a business owner, he needs to take onus and responsibility over issues that customers have no control over. To continue, he was abrupt about not discussing the problem, telling us to hand the phone to the technician so that he could tell him to remove the parts. This is completely unprofessional. As customers who chose to go to Fagnan's for an installation in the first place, and who have recommended Fagnan's to other people, this is a lack of complete customer appreciation. The technicians who actually came to the house for the inspection and repairs were on the other hand, were knowledgeable and professional and finished their job in a timely manner. It is a shame they had to be dragged in the middle because of poor professionalism by the owner. It is no longer the cost that is the issue, which we paid are going to move on from, but the principle of how the ownership displays customer service.

Hello NGODONNA,

Thanks for reviewing about us on N49.ca. We also appreciate you’re loyalty to our company and any referrals you may have given us. We are also thrilled that you chose Fagnan’s to install your furnace 5 years ago.

We just wanted to clarify some items on your review and we apologize for not making this clear during these past few days. Our records indicate that your furnace has no labor or parts warranty because they expired in February 2014. You never did purchase warranty thru Fagnan’s and your warranty is with Carrier. Any Carrier dealer in the city, including our selves, could handle your warranty. After the first year your labor warranty is expired (Unless you buy an extended labor warranty thru a select Carrier dealer, like us.) After five years, your parts warranty is expired as well (Unless again, you purchase an extended parts warranty). Your Heat Exchangers are covered for the lifetime of the furnace.

Furthermore, our records also indicate that we have not had one service call or maintenance call at your home since the installation of the furnace five years ago. This lack of care for your furnace may also cause a problem because it can void your warranty, but we over looked that.

Taken from Service Manual supplied with Furnace:

“ANNUAL MAINTENANCE. All Products covered by this Contract require annual maintenance performed by an authorized service technician and as specified by the manufacturer. You may be required to submit proof of annual maintenance in the event of a claim. Lack of maintenance or failure to provide proof of annual maintenance or failure to provide proof of annual maintenance may result in denial of payment for claims under Your Contract. You will be responsible for payment of denied claims due to the lack of annual maintenance or failure to provide proof of annual maintenance.”

During our service call on Friday we had discovered your secondary heat exchangers have failed and unfortunately the only repair is replacement. Due to the nature of the part and the processes involved we were unable to make any repairs till Monday.

As a business owner we do not have control over our suppliers hours and the implication’s of getting parts covered by warranty during a weekend. To stock such a part would just be a waste on many different levels and not a normal procedure in the industry.

Also, if we do not move a part within six months, we simply do not stock that part. We have dozens of parts that get used on a daily basis and get re-stocked daily. A secondary heat exchanger is not a part we replace on a daily basis, but rather a part we may come across on a monthly basis. At that point there are literally a hundred different kinds of heat exchangers. Possibly thousands. From a business perspective, driving around a semi and trailer full of every single furnace part is not efficient and not practical. So if your furnace requires a part that we would not move within 6 months, we do not stock it and additional costs do apply to picking up that odd-ball part.

We are glad you were happy with the level of professionalism and timely matter in which we replaced your secondary heat exchanger. In our effort to explain this to you on the phone, we simply wanted to examine this more closely to see how we came to such a satisfactory result.

• 1hr service call on Friday (Which we did not charge you for)
• 1hr to order and pick up secondary heat exchanger from supplier
• 5hrs to replace secondary heat exchangers (2 guys, 2.5 hours each) As per our GPS and this does not include travel time.
• 1hr to process warranty thru Carrier to receive credit for the part
• Proper recycling of old Heat Exchanger (which Fagnan’s pays for)

So for your ordeal we have put in roughly 8 hours of labor to get your heat going again. If we were to multiply that by our current hourly service call it would cost $1000 dollars! This would be a fair estimate considering our competitors (Carrier dealers or not) on average charge $1000-$1500 for the same situation.

Taken from Service Manual supplied with Furnace:

THIS WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER:

1. Labor or other costs incurred for diagnosing, repairing, removing, installing, shipping, servicing or handling of either defective parts, or replacement parts, or new units.
3. Normal maintenance as outlined in the installation and servicing instructions or Owner’s Manual, including filter cleaning and/or replacement and lubrication.

We believe the amount of $600 that we charged you, and many other customers in the same situation, is beyond fair. For this reason we did not feel obligated to negotiate the price further in your favor and we’re sorry if you felt we were being un-professional as owners. However, what is a person to do when they are being yelled at and then being hung up on while not being given the chance to explain the above details. You should also be aware that our two installers that were at your home, resolving your issues, had to have their work re-scheduled for the day so you situation became priority.

It should also be mentioned that if you weren’t a Fagnan’s customer your bill would have been “Astoundingly more”. We hope you appreciated the timely service and the resolve of your issues for the $600 dollars we charged you.

Yours In Heating,

The Fagnan Family

To the Fagnan Family,

Despite your publicly detailed response, it remains unhelpful after the fact. These explanations were not properly/adequately communicated prior to the replacement and it remains that there is no transparency regarding your costs to the customer. There was no effort to explain this on the phone (which was after the replacement) - when we responded by saying we are not responsible after you commented on having to pay out of pocket before being reimbursed after 60 days, the words used were, "I am not discussing this with you, hand the phone to the technician" so that he can be instructed to remove the parts. There was no yelling involved, only an attempt to reach a level of understanding of why the cost quoted and the cost being charged was at such a discrepancy. To be clear, the frustration does not stem from the cost itself, but why the details of the cost was not clearly explained when it was in stark contrast to what we were initially told, why were we misquoted in the first place, and in the manner of how you decided to conduct your professionalism. It is based on principle.

As for the maintenance, it is our prerogative to decide how that is done, and that may not necessarily have to be through Fagnan's. In response to, "We are glad you were happy with the level of professionalism and timely matter in which we replaced your secondary heat exchanger", there is no "we", it is your employees. We are grateful to your staff who rearranged their schedule to prioritize our appointment (the replacement was done on a Monday, the appointment was arranged the Friday prior), and who cared that we had heat and that the furnace was functioning safely.

According to you, "your heat exchangers are covered for the lifetime of the furnace". We were informed after the replacement that after it was done once, there was no longer any coverage for it. More disparity on information that is being provided.

Thank you for your time.

Donna

I love this company! My old furnace of 40 yrs quit leaving us in the cold in December. I was happy to find a company that did not try to sell us a new furnace when all mine needed were some new parts. The staff were wonderful, service was prompt and the price was reasonable. Going to use Fagnan's when I upgrade my furnace to a new system. Don't hesitate to give them a try.

Fagnan's replacement of Maytag's 6 year old disaster furnace with a reliable Carrier. The job was done on the scheduled date & time, with professional treatment by the installers. Everything was done in an organized manner and the area left clean of any debris. The installers answered all my technical questions (I'm a retired techie by profession) and the new furnace has performed flawlessly since immediately after installation.
My major beef is with Maytag who sold ill-designed un-reliable furnaces, & then opted out from Canada with no support, no available replacement parts, & no honor of warranty. I would Never buy a Maytag product even if they were the only ones making it.

Fagnan claims to provide their customers with quality service and products, in a manner that is both efficient and economically competitive.

Beware- this company installed a damper on my furnace – recommended by the installer to be boost energy efficiency. When the damper fails it will cause the furnace from working. I was told by the Fagnan serviceman that the damper has a 95% failure rate. Why is this company selling such an inferior product to their customers? To add insult to injury I was charged $165.00 for a 5 minute service call. What did they do for this -flipped a switch to turn the damper off. Once the damper was by-passed my furnace worked again.
This service man boasted that a majority of his service calls were similar to mine;a simple flip of a switch to turn the damper off.

Why is this company selling a sub-par product? Easy- Quick, expensive service calls with a great return for very little effort.

Beware the wolf in sheep’s clothing. Customer service is not a priority -service calls are where the money’s at.

Very pleased with all aspects of purchasing a new furnace with Fagnan's. New to the province and saw their sticker on the original furnace. Reception helpful and efficient, appointment for visit and quote done immediately with followup call unlike Arpi's who never sent the quote or followed up. Installation was done efficiently and furnace works great. Outside venting was pretty unsightly - so called Fagnan's and they immediately came out and revented with our suggestions. Inspection complete as well now....very pleased with everything. Have now signed up for yearly service on our service, as they sent us a letter offering this with a discount. Thank you Fagnan's, Highly Recommended Company in our minds.

We had Fagnans do several services for us. They installed air conditioners, cleaned our furnace (June 2010) and most recently a thermostat installed. Their reps were professional and friendly. I would use them again in a minute and will refer them to all of our friends. Thanks for keeping our summers cool and our winters warm!!

We had a Maytag High Eff furnace and an air conditioner installed about 4 yrs ago and we have not had any problems. The first year we used our air conditioner we had a problem with it but Fagnan's was right out to fix it and we haven't had any problems with it since. I have never had any problems getting someone out when we had our old furnace whether it was during reg hours or after hrs. Fagnan's is the only ones that I call.

Thanks for taking the time to get to know a little about us...

Ken Fagnan has come a long way since his days in the Saint Patrick’s Orphanage in Prince Albert, SK, where he spent his younger years. Ken was 16 years old when he left and 2 years later he found his way to Calgary, AB, where he started in the heating trade in 1964 as a service person for Furnaceman Industries.

In 1968, Ken started Fagnan’s Furnace Service with only had one thing on his mind – providing great service at a low price. It was this basic principle, along with hard work that built Ken a great reputation that did not go unnoticed; in 1971 he bought and oversaw a fleet of 5 cleaning trucks. In the next few years his fleet grew to 15 trucks and Fagnan’s Furnace eventually grew to a personal of 154 employees doing duct cleaning, furnace repairs, and furnace installations. There was hardly a neighbourhood in Calgary and surrounding area that Fagnan’s hadn’t been too. With the success that Fagnan’s was having Ken reached out to new communities and donated money so sports programs could be started for children. Even today Fagnan’s donates to sports teams and local charities on a regular basis. Because of his continuing contribution to the community Ken has received numerous awards including The Arms of Alberta from former MLA Stan Nelson, Entrepreneurial Leadership Awards from the Metis Nation of Alberta in 2006 and 2007, and the Golden Jubilee Medal from her Majesty The Queen in 2002.
