I’ve had two kitchens and four bathrooms crafted and renovated by Cabinet Works. What a great, high quality product and beautifully designed! Staff is very professional and prices are very reasonable!

During our kitchen renovation, the project manager was largely non-existent thrusting us, the homeowners, into that role. Needless to say, this made the renovations much more stressful than they needed to be. After we noticed some errors and omissions by some subcontractors, and raised our concerns, these subcontractors were recalled and made the necessary corrections. However, this resulted in thousands of dollars in extra charges on the final bill. When challenged about the extra billing the owner became angry and aggressive. For our bathroom renovations, we decided to go with another company.

My name is Roy Wielhouwer and I am the owner of CabinetWorksplus. I talked to my project manager, my designers, and office manager and we have no idea who this client might be. Would the person who sent this review mind letting me know who you are.

I deeply care about my company and the work that we do. If we have not done our job well then I need to ensure it does not happen again. On the other hand sometimes communication is all that is needed and I would love to address any concerns you have. Please send me an email or call me if you don't want to communicate through this website.

Had my kitchen gutted in 2009. If I had known this site was here would have written sooner. Back laundry we dry walled ceiling unlevel when finished. Owner Roy said he would split the cost for it to be redone level. Did I not already pay once fori it to be done properly in the first place. Also laundry room floor was to be insulated as no basement beneath. It is freezing cold back there. Poor grout job on back splash. They rebuilt my two piece bathroom off laundry and when the pocket door which they installed is shut there is a huge gap at the top of door as the door frame itself wasn't made square. And don't get me started on the unlevel floor which guests to my home have commented on. Looking at my fridge top and the cupboard show how unlevel kitchen is. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. Unless of course you want shoddy workmanship

I was very surprised by this review. I went back to 2009 to see who this customer might be. Judging by the work done (I looked at all our projects in that year)I think I know who this customer might be.

I would love to address her concerns and give you a little more information about her project.

The signed contracted work was for approximately $50,000.00. This was a complete kitchen, bathroom, and back porch( converted to a laundry) renovation.

Unfortunately as we proceeded the renovation, many issues came up.

1)The porch was in bad shape. The flooring, joists, and brick support for the porch was structually unsound.
2)The electrical wiring in the basement was extremely unsafe
3)We replaced the old electrical panel(fuses) with breakers
4)Replaced knob and tube wiring
5)Insulated walls in a bathroom
6)Replace poor siding work done (water could penetrate through in many areas

As each issue arose we informed our client what we thought needed to be done. Sometimes we were able to give a approximate idea of what the costs would be. Other times we did not know what the costs would be till we did further investigation.

Of course, as with any renovation Jan was very concerned about the addtional costs. Each time I met with Jan to talk about what needed to be done and help her understand the work required.

The reason the porch is so cold, is that 3 walls of the porch face the outside elements. The area under the raised porch is also open to the elements. We recommended a heated floor that would not only provide warmth for walking on but also provide additional heat in the room. Because of all the extra work required, she choose not to do this(we felt this was so important that we made a note in our paper work when we recommended this to our client and that she declined to do it). The porch(now laundry room) has a outside door type between it and the kitchen.

The floor and joists where replaced but not re leveled because it would have required jacking up the whole structure (which had a second storey above this)We was however much better than before and was a great compromise for avoiding more costs.

The ceiling in the porch (now laundry) was also out of level. We could have leveled out the ceiling and looking back I should have offered to do this. At this point in the project I felt that Jan was frustrated by all the problems we found on the project and wanted to keep costs in check.

The floor in the kitchen could not be leveled with out creating problems with openings in the rest of the house. If we built up the floor to level it,then it would be too high as you come into the kitchen. This is a very old home and sometimes the costs to repair a crooked floor are just too great. We did however install the cabinets level. Could be that the fridge is sitting crooked ( because of floor) so that is does not look level with the cabinet.

I have have no idea about the door frame, but after this I will definetly call my customer to address this.

So to sum this all up we did a large renovation job here with over $10,000.00 in additional work that was because of unforseen problems and upgrades requested by the customer. We did not know all the costs till the project was completed. We itemized the costs for all the additional work. When all the work was done we presented the complete invoice to the customer. There was all the additional work invoiced plus the 10% hold back on the orginal contract.

Here is what I don't understand why the comments were made. SHE PAID THE ENTIRE BILL. If there was anything outstanding I would expect her to let us know and we would take care of it.

I love what I do and care deeply about all my clients. After all what is a businees without customers. I am so surprised by this review and I will definetly take the time to call her and address her concerns.

Three bathrooms renovated and nothing but issues. The project manager that handled our project was inept. Installed cracked granite backsplash thinking we would not notice. The granite countertop in the one bathroom was installed backwards leaving too much room from the edge of the cabinet to the sink...very noticeable when getting ready and thus not enough room between backsplash and sink...tight fit for the faucets. Numerous delays through the whole process with me phoning often to help speed up the process. Eight months later and our main shower is now leaking and water has seeped to our downstairs den ceiling.
If you read their website they talk about quality and caring through the whole renovation process. They have yet to contact us to see how we feel about the completed job. I have let them know though that we are very unsatisfied.

I do remember this renovation. I believe that some of the concerns my customer pointed out, are valid. We did take longer that we thought it would. Sometimes when we do a renovation project things don't go the way we planned. Sometimes' although rarely our guys are not doing 100% quality work. I always want that 100% work but they are people and things happen.

So what do I do about it? When an issue arises I meet with my customer and address each concern. I do what it takes to ensure that when we are done the project is beautiful and well done. I would love for all my projects to go quickly and smoothly but I know that where people are involved things can happen. I can only apologize and take the necessary steps to correct the work done.

The countertop was not installed backwards, the sink was set back further from the front edge than we typically do. Our granite supplier had not fabricated the countertop correctly. We could not get more of the color that our client chose, so we offered to change the mechanical popup on the faucet to accomadate the setback. We were able however to get a small piece to replace the backsplash.

So what happened on the end of this job. The Customer paid the complete bill, no money held back. Two weeks before we presented the final bill my customer asked if we were interested in doing his kitchen ( we just finished off three of his bathrooms).

Regarding the leak from the shower. After the renovation was done and the bill paid we received a call that there was a water leak. We sent our plumber immediately to their home. The customer was there and he and the plumber could not find anything.A few days later the customer called and said that water was showing in room below the second floor bathroom. We right away sent the plumber again.

So what was the problem? We discovered that the existing water pipe supplies were not fastened well. When we installed the new shower valve we must have pushed down the pipe supplies. One of the pipe supplies touched a nail ( that was shot through crown mould that did not hit a stud) The crown mould was along the ceiling on the ground floor. There was a reaction between the copper line and the nail that slowly caused corrision to the point of creating a hole in the pipe. That is why the leak was so small at first and how it slowly got bigger. We explained this to our customer and he had to admit that there was no way we could have known about it. We had to access this problem through the garage ceiling. We repaired the drywall and replaced part of the copper line. Since that incident we have not received a single service call and the know we will be there!!!

I my 15 years of owning a kitchen and bathroom renovation company, we have completed over 6000 projects. I am always striving to be the very best I can be. I want every project to go smoothly but sometimes things don't go well. I apologize for the work and take the necessary steps to remedy it. My ultimate goal is that our projects meet ours and their expectations.

All I can say is that I deeply care bout my reputation and just wanted to respond to my customers concerns.

Thanks
