So I make the best turkey. Honestly. I would like to take a credit for it but I just follow this amazingly complicated recipe. And because I am really good at that, the results are phenomenal. Especially this cranberry sauce with bits of mandarin oranges and contreau is simply succulent.

Very excited, my boyfriend and I have decided to invite our friend Kamal over for a Christmas Eve dinner. Single with family in Vancouver, we were happy to have him celebrate with us. Then we talked to our newly befriended neighbors and realized they didn’t celebrate xmass either so we invited them over as well. They usually come with another friend of theirs just like the 3 musketeers so we invited him as well .. next thing you know, we are inviting another couple of our single non xmass celebrating friends with no family in Toronto .. the more the merrier kind of deal. No problem, there will be enough turkey for the 8 of us. Piece of cake right?

First panic kicked in when I realized I didn’t have the special recipe, I must have deleted it from my computer somehow. And being the true Virgo I am, there is nothing else that compares and its all or nothing kind of deal. I was determined. I had to find those recipies. Calling all possible people including my ex, my friends ex and some more, panic #2 started to pouring over me. Status – recipes are MIA. And that was the end of it.

I was devastated, planning to make changes to turkey dinner to some pasta fiesta or something .. when by some complete miracle ray saw on TV a commercial from the Fairmont Royal York.

What an ingenious idea!! Call the number and order. Awesome. After all … Its Royal York!! How bad can that be .. must be good. Dinner for what they call 8 people but is more like for 10-12 is priced at beautiful $270 and includes:

- Butternut Squash and Maple Bisque with Clipped Chives (soup)
- 15 pound naturally raised ontario turkey
- gravy
- sage onion stuffing
- resh Cranberry Sauce,
- herb roasted chateau potatoes,
- caramelized root vegetable medley
- loaf of bread
- royal york mincemeat tartlets
- bread pudding with rum sauce

They also offer dinner for 4 for $160 and dinner for 12 for $350.

Lots of gobble-gobble, big smiles and satisfied facial expressions. Soup was delicious, turkey tender and juicy, meat falling apart, really tasty, lots and lots of gravy and stuffing, really good cranberry sauce (but not as good as the one I was able to make because that one is the only one in the world :-) little roasted potatoes (which disappeared instantly so if you order this make sure you ask for lots more) roasted vegetables were buttery and very flavorful and I am not a huge veggies fan.

As the party continued, people attacked that bird at 1am for the second round. What else can a host really ask for? Well maybe a dish cleaning personal because we must have used every possible dish and cutlery in the house. And we got lots from merging two 1- bedroom apartments.

Huge success. There is nothing else to add. Compacting 1 full day of cooking into 45min of reheating and table setting (during times when every minute counts because of the gigantic 2do lists one has to tackle during these holidays) is pretty much a gift itself.

The turkey was packed with everything in a huge white box that came with a sheet of instructions. Something along these lines: Put in the preheated oven and heat for 45 min. Abraka dabra – dinner is ready.

My goodness, Lutz! That review you wrote was absolutely magical! I had to re-read your review two times becuz I couldn't believe my eyes!
I can't begin to believe they could charge such a low price for all that amazing gourmet food, all cooked,ready to go & it sounds & looks like it was beyond heavenly!
What a phenomenal idea! I mean, you almost couldn't make a meal for that many people @ that price, never mind all the effort, sweat & tears that one would have to put in to make something as fabulous!
I really hope you can find those recipes you're looking for! Have you ever tried My best friend swears by them! Thank you for sharing the pix & the excellent review! You are very kind, as is your boyfriend to have everyone over like that @ Christmas!

nice review ... but it's making me hungry
definatley makes sense when you look at time and effort cooking for that many people
tat way you can just put your feet up and enjoy a glass of wine with no risk of overcooking etc. perfect.

Hi Ruth, its a pick up not a delivery, you call in few days in advance and pick up from their location. but don't get turn off by that its soooo worth it!!

I just had to add, I went thru the pix again & realized, I 4got 2 comment on them! They really a gr8 pix! Definitely shows exactly what you were talking about & it looks like everyone had sooooo much fun! Loved the pic of your fur-baby & the tree as well! You have a gorgeous place! :)
