It's fireplace season! And if you're thinking about getting a new one, think twice about The Fireplace Center and Patio Shop on Carling.

I bought mine in Sept 2015. After repeat visits to "fix" the issues, (at least 5 since installation in Nov 2015...maybe 6), this is what I'm left with: visible seams in the mantel......but then no mantel, since the discoloured one was removed (it turned yellow after less than 5 days of installation), white spray paint on the unit itself, the bottom coming out of the unit due to a gap created when shimming, and my favourite - the graffiti-like black spray paint on the front of the fireplace, which was the "fix" to cover the white spray paint. Who wouldn't want this piece of art in their living room? (Couldn't he have at least done a fancy design?)

I have photos that speak for themselves (but unable to upload for some reason), in terms of the "quality" work provided by The Fireplace Centre. Not to mention the "quality" customer service they've provided, since they have all my money and I have an exposed, damaged fireplace. Awesome!

Summer is almost here and I shopped around for a new BBQ and these guys had the best to offer! I was told to go to one of their competitors but honestly the service is great and the BBQs look fantastic! I was helped by Dave, he was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. I will definitely go back!

Purchased a patio set and BBQ, and couldn't be happier! Never had any issues with the products. Also had a gas line put in for our BBQ and the service was great!

The motor went on our 15 year old furnace, so it was time to replace the gas furnace. Wylie helped me select an appropriate replacement, then he and his colleagues did a fantastic job of installing the new one. We have a finished basement so installation was tricky but they were able to complete the installation in a single day, without any mess and able to conceal the pipes perfectly. The furnace is incredibly quiet and making a big impact on my Hydro and Enbridge bill. I could not recommend the Fireplace Center more highly.

Hello all, purchased a Hearthstone stove from the fireplace centre and patio shop, the firsrt year was great, now in the second season, a little more than a month into it, our wood stove is not functional. We had to hound the fireplace centre for almost 2 weeks before they sent someone out to look at it. At the time we were told that all the gaskets were shot and needed replacing. Odd since the stove wasn't even 2 years old. Well again another week and a half went by and constantly trying to get someone out here. First they told me it could take over a month to get a gasket kit, I had to keep complaining and email the manufacturer before I finally got some action. Well now it is the coldest day of the year and my wood stove still is not radiating sufficient heat to use it, have to use my propane furnace. A month long and still cannot use a product we spent almost 7 thousand dollars for. I won't even mention that the hearth pad is falling apart as well!!! I have nothing but distain for this company and the stove manufacturer, my advice run like the wind from this place. Would have liked to give this zero stars but can't you have to give it one to post, my gift to this place

Ordered part, told me 2-3 weeks. After 6 weeks still no call from them. Called them and left voice mails on 3 separate occasions, no call back. Went into store, they had no answers as to where the part was or why no call back.

Don't waste your time.

We purchased a gas bbq& gas stove ,the Fireplace Center did the installation from
Start to finish. All was well until our stove would malfunction and not work.
After a few visits to our house to review the problem and change parts they
Didn't appreciate our future calls telling them that the stove was still malfunctioning.
Dave was condescending telling me "Stove needs maintenance "that was his answer
To the ongoing issue. Dave also advised me to call a local company to look at the stove on our dime I might add! I called in the other company and they discovered that
The control unit was not installed correctly and also changed yet another part on the stove.
Today the stove is working well and the money we put out with the other company was well worth it. I would advise anyone making a large purchase to think twice
Before they ever do business with these people. Dave should also take some classes
On customer relations and understand who the customer is. Rotten Apples!!!!!!!!!!!

(I also had Dave as the installer, and after several visits from him I requested someone else and was told there was no one else!)

Bought a brand new napoleon gas fireplace installed by another major TSSA certified company in Ottawa. After installation the tech showed how the push start wasn't working and suggested I contact the supplier to get it repaired. Went to the Fireplace Centre only to be told it wasn't their problem and that the tech should have diagnosed it - really! Refused to do anything about it. Will not ever buy from them again - ever!

Products are high quality that you pay for - service staff knows their stuff - sales staff communication in our experience makes dealing with any government dept look like a breeze - 3 months to manage a simple installation from start to finish excluding the wait on getting product from the manufacture (then it would be 5 months).
Might but products again but would not risk anything more complicated ... having said that your experience may be better.

I bought a pellet stove in 2006 and had received good after sales service until this year. The stove developed a problem where it would start up initially but would not feed more pellets to keep it going. I call for service only to find out that the usual technician, Harry Burke, had passed away. In his place, Dave, the technical supervisor, came to repair the stove. First, he diagnosed a problem with the igniter and he put in a new one. The problem was not fixed and he then diagnosed a problem with the room sensor. He changed that too. Still no resolution. Then he said he would call the manufacturer to find out what the problem could be. I called in September to find out if he had come up with a solution. He told me that as far as he was concerned, the stove was working as he was able to get it started. I replied that there was never any problem with getting it started; it's keeping it going that was the problem. He then said that he had done all that he could do according to his level of expertise. He then added insult to injury by saying that there was something wrong with my house that was causing the problem. He was unwilling to do anything further to rectify the situation. After being left high and dry, I contacted my pellet supplier and got a recommendation for a local technician. This new technician discovered that a spring was missing from the feeding mechanism and installed one. Then he suggested that there may be sawdust buildup in the hopper causing an air lock and hampering the feeding of the pellets. We cleaned up the hopper and, miracle of miracles, the stove started feeding continuously. However, a previous problem that Harry wasn't able to resolve reappeared. The stove wasn't able to power down without consuming all the pellets in the hopper. Basically, it wasn't responding to the shut down command. The new technician diagnosed a problem with the control panel. He installed a new one and now the stove is working properly. And I didn't even have to do anything to the house! Needless to say, I am no longer a customer of the Fireplace Centre.

Hello , I have been a customer of the Fireplace Centre for more than 20 years . I have purchased BBQs and accessories with great satisfation on the knowledge and curtious attention from the staff .
Recently we purchased a Napoleon furnace for our house as our old one was beyond repair . We have been extremely happy with the new furnace as the house is warm and our gas and electric bills have decreased .
I have recommended the company to family and freinds and will continue to do so .

We had the Fireplace Center replace our original wood burning fireplace with a new Valour gas fireplace in Feb. 2013 and I have to say from the salesperson that came out to the house to the installation crew, everyone was top notch!
The salesperson helped us pick out the right unit and options, which was great!
It's easy to see what so many years of experience in their field means to a homeowner.

I had the fireplace center & atio shop out to my house for an estimate just after I moved in. They charged me $250 WETT inspection fee and said they would contact me with details about my fireplace reno and pellet stove install. They never called back. I contacted them twice with no response. they took my money and never did what I asked them to do.

Horrible business paractices. I offered them $10K of business that they gave away.

These guys really know their stuff. I needed to replace my fireplace and couldn't believe how complex these things have become. Once you get past the basics of which fuel and whether you need zero clearance or an insert and which model can use your existing flue. Then you find out the new models come with remote controls, adjustable flames for zonal heating, etc! Brian was excellent and not only went through the options but also which matter most in my home. My heating bill was lower this winter as a result.

We are happy with our Valour fireplace as far as a product; however the follow up service we received was terrible. From October until the end of November we as customers who spent over $6500 at The Fireplace Centre and Patio Shop, have been trying to rectify an issue that occurred during our fan install. Our file was passed from a sales rep to a service rep to a "manager". We would wait 1 week sometimes before getting a call back. During phone calls we were made to feel like we were lying. The installers and people coming out to the house would tell us one thing and the sales rep would tell us another...and so the problem continued. Our electrician, who felt "bad" about our ordeal with them, came and fixed the problem in 15 minutes free of charge, no thanks to the Fireplace centre, and we are still waiting for a phone call from The Fireplace Centre and Patio Shop to see if they can "fix" the issue...too bad it's done!
