We hired Mr. Build to renovate a bathroom in August 2019. They did a great job. They kept a clean work site, were personable, did excellent work, and provided goodt advice when we needed it. And they got the job done on time. We would recommend Mr. Build for sure.

Mr. Build just completed a bathroom renovation for me for a very reasonable price. Kurt is honest, trustworthy, and does a good job. I would most certainly hire him again.

The young man was very personable and listened to my request. The roof was washed being careful not to wet the neighbors windows. The Leaf guard gutters were flushed and a small repair was done on the gutters. The jobs were done in a satisfactory manner.
The young man came with all necessary tools. He left the yard as it was when he started the jobs.

Job involved the repair of an exterior power outlet and installation of some exterior lighting. The work was done promptly and the electrician was polite and professional. We are very satisfied with the result from a quality, functionality and aesthetic perspective.

Complete bathroom reno. Fair price, great job. The only contractor I could find after calling about 15 in greater Vancouver! Plus they started the job with a few weeks of hire (they could have started a week early but I wasn't ready!)

trustworthy, organized, friendly, great work

Highly recommended.

We wanted a wreck of a basement transformed intelligently into a useable workspace - lighting, insulation, concrete floors, ceilings, walls and doors where necessary, and a few specific cabinetry and purpose built installations - all without breaking the bank. My first concern - and recommendation - is that we had a trustworthy team since this was the family home, and sure enough they were an excellent team of people. Second, we found we could rely on them to work through demolition and them come up with sensible solutions to anything we encountered leaving us the flexibility to decide final layout and design as we went. All the subcontractors seem to be long established relationships and they all work well together.

In discussing this work we also started to expand the remit - an outside sewer line replacement, a new garden fence... All because they are an easy group to get along with and do a good job. We'll be approaching them again if more jobs crop up.

After interviewing a number of contractors we went ahead with MrBuild for the outside of our home: landscaping, hardscaping, exterior paint job, new roof and skylights and gutters, replaced railings, extensive outdoor lighting, etc. I found Kurt and his crew to be reliable, courteous, proactive, and will return to correct problems (if any). I have received compliments from friends and neighbours about the work done on the exterior of our home. I will continue to use them if anything else comes up; and will recommend MrBuild to others.

We had 3 bathrooms that needed serious updating and remodeling. We called for quotes and met with contractors.

We chose to work with Mr. Build for two reasons initially. 1) the quote for the work was reasonable and 2) Kurt Gust was very easy to work with. He asked questions and respected our ideas and role in this project.

Once the work started, it was done professionally and efficiently and we saw significant progress every day.

The crew was on-time; focused on their work; dealt with "surprises" in a knowledgeable and professional manner - taking the time to explain the situation and offer sound suggestions - even going beyond the call to find a solution in one case. They were all very respectful, and never left a mess behind at the end of the day.

We would highly recommend Kurt Gust and his crew at Mr. Build for any home renovation or remodeling job that you have.

I have used Kurt and his team at Mr Build both at my condo, a rental and at business properties. On every occasion the quality and workmanship is terrific and done by very personable professionals. I have referred many friends to them and I highly recommend them.

We had an extensive renovation of a home we had just bought. Basically the house was gutted and rebuilt over a period of four months.

Generally the quality of the work was very good with a couple of exceptions. Doug was particularly good at innovative solutions for construction related problems of which there were many. Doug always consulted us as to what we preferred and gave us his opinion when we asked for it. This was much appreciated.

Adam did qualtiy work measuring baseboards and cheerfully did odd jobs for us.

Paul was good at dismantling unwanted aspects of the house.

We found Kurt provided reliable service - we could count on his men arriving promptly and regularly. Kurt got other trades in on time as well. We found him easy to get along with - with a good sense of humor.

The negative aspects of our experience was the poorer job done when his men felt rushed.

Also, the painter was fast but exceedingly sloppy with imprecise painting of windows and edges and paint dribbles on the walls and not providing a second coat even though this was in his contract to do so.

Kurt did provide his men at no cost to us to remedy some of the painting and caulking deficiences and compensated us for remedial work performed by our own painter.

We were very pleased the with professional way our project was handled, all of the workmen were very pleasant, and highly skilled in their trade. Kurt was also very professional and did what he said he would do, promptly. We wouldn't hesitate to use Mr Build, Vancouver again.

I have been using the services of Mr Build, very ably led by Kurt Gust, for the best part of two decades, for renovations and repairs, from the smallest jobs to full makeovers such as carpentry, painting, flooring, plumbing, electricity, etc.

The work was always done on time and according to specs, and good advice given when needed.

Each craftsman has always been working as if it was his own business, with speed and efficiency, and with courteous manners.

I do not hesitate one second to recommend Kurt and his team as an A-One outfit, long life to them!

We are in the process of having our basement renovated by Mr. Build of Vancouver. The first stage is over and we were pleasantly surprised that it took less than the estimated time. The hard-working men accommodated our needs and did a good job. We're looking forward to the next phases and the final result.

I have been calling on Kurt and Norm for home renovation projects for over 20 years. The quotes are conducted promptly, the work begins on time and is done competently. Mr. Build-Dunbar is a good company to work with.

Mr. Build has worked on a number of projects at our home (both large and small) and we have always been very satisfied with the quality of their work.

We have had variable results from Mr. Build. A major exterior renovation about four years ago was completed to our satisfaction. Since then, a couple of inside jobs were less than satisfactory.

I have used Mr. Build on a consistent basis for over 20 years for most of my home improvement projects. During this time the team at Mr. Build's has given me sound advice and has made recommendations that are often creative and not always the highest priced ones. They provide quality service, which includes completing jobs promptly and with good humour! I highly recommend them!

They built a fabulous deck for my home and gave me great advise about maintaining it for years to come. A very honest and hard working crew. Highly reccomended!

Do your research and don't be fooled, as we were, by his business statement, website testimonials or the references he provides which all give him glowing reviews...this was CLEARLY not the case for us.

We recently purchased our first home and were excited to do some minor kitchen renovations prior to moving in. After researching and interviewing 3 or 4 other local contractors, we decided to go with Mr. Build as he seemed the most efficient, competent, reasonably priced and seemed confident that he could do the work required within our budget while meeting our shorter time demands. However, once the work began, we found out quickly that this was not going to be the case. Though we were fully aware that no reno project goes 100% smoothly and we anticipated some issues, we encountered SEVERAL hold ups within the first couple days, despite our attempts at organizing as much as we could to be efficient and painless for everyone. Each time we tried to contact him to discuss our concerns, we found him difficult to track down and IF we were able to reach him, we received rushed and abrupt single sentence responses to our lengthy emails (which was the ONLY way to find him) I think he visited our home only once throughout the project, contracting the majority of the work to other independent contractors who either were not fully informed of the work requested or did not understand the job at hand (ie: drywalling an entire wall that was meant to be left open and framed, which we intercepted before it was mudded - thank GOD!)

When the job was 'finished' and we moved in expecting it to be paint-ready as per our contract, we found the work was done very sloppy in most areas and required us to spend 5-6 hours of our time and more of our money to complete the work we paid for in order to paint.

All in all, the entire job was fully completed more than 3 weeks later than originally anticipated, and WELL over our original budget due to inaccurate estimations, bogus additional charges and clerical errors. We discovered AFTER being invoiced that the rates for each independent contractor were about $30/hr, where Mr. Build was charging us $69/hr for work that he didn't even see let alone do - a 60% mark-up seems absurd! Moreover, we found dealing with Mr. Build extremely frustrating as he was often very short, abrupt and insisted on communicating through quick, rushed emails the entire time we worked with him - not once did we feel like were valued clients, that our project had his focus or that he 'knows what customer service means'. Though we were, and remain very appreciative of the work that was done in our home, and we were able to reach a compromise in order to compensate us for the additional time and money we had to put in, our final conversations with him were arguments where he resorted to harsh, condescending tones, accusations and defensive tactics; we were left with a terrible final impression of this company, which ultimately overshadows the final result of our newly renovated kitchen.

Suffice it to say, in hindsight, we feel we should have done the job ourselves, hiring independent contractors and paying them their rates directly - which is basically what Mr. Build did for us, tacking on additional fees on the back end. If you're considering using his services for your upcoming project, our suggestion is to save yourself the headache, stress and money and cut out the middle man.
