Enjoyed a wonderful meal there on a busy Friday evening. Atmosphere was good, friendly, and not stuffy. Service was attentive and food was delicious. Hubby loved the pickled veggies; meat was perfectly cooked-tasty and tender. Sides were tasty and generous. Wine list was daunting- so many choices, and the bottle we chose was a perfect accompaniment. Prices seemed appropriate ( not inexpensive). And the other patrons, who were a varied lot, all seemed to be enjoying the evening there.

We had not booked but took a chance on getting a table as we'd heard good things.
We were not disappointed
My first choice of entree was unavailable, but there was plenty of choice and i can recommend the Filet Mignon in bacon, it was delicious snd perfectly cooked..
The waiter was really nice and we chatted about where we from, it was so pleadant to be served by someone we felt was onterested in what we had to say.
We never felt rushed. The whole evening was just great. Only very minor negative was that the batter on the giant onion rings was a bit doughy but really a very minor point. We loved it there and would recommend it to anyone with a love of good food

I absolutely recommend Barbarian for a unique steak house. Ask for Johnny, he was amazing. The dry age steak was fantastic as was the centre top sirloin.
I also highly recommend the French onion soup and mousse house.
Ask to see the gorgeous wine cellar.

This place was recommended to me and it did not disappoint.
I had the top sirloin which was cooked to perfection and had a side of their sprouts (not to be missed!)
The wine list is superb and I enjoyed a couple of glasses of excellent Burgundy and again, they were so flexible in accommodating my request. They know how to look after their clients.
The digestif options were not bad either! 😉
Highly recommended and you should probably book in advance given the queue outside the following night.
I will be back 👌

I was craving steak recently, so I decided to try out this longtime steakhouse located in the heart of Toronto. They’ve got this really old-fashioned vibe all over the place from the menu to the decorations, which was cool to see. The food was great - although not the best steak I’ve ever had, it’s easily one of the best steaks I’ve had in Toronto. They’ve also got an extensive wine list - by that, I meant EXTENSIVE! It is pages long and you’d have a hard time picking one out of it.

We tried the 32oz porterhouse steak, and according to the server, it is dry-aged for a minimum of 40 days. The medium rare steak was cooked exactly like how I anticipated it to be, albeit it could use more seasoning - I am personally a fan of using coarse salt over fine table salt on steaks. The Grilled Bacon, Beef Salami, Croquettes for the appetizer was also okay.

Of course, it isn’t a cheap place to eat. I can easily find a quality Bistecca alla Fiorentina in Tuscany with less damage to my wallet, however, it’s still a decent place to have a steak in Toronto if you are craving for it.

Arrived with no prior reservation. Had no problem getting us a seat.
Atmosphere was nice and old fashioned, beautiful and calming. The lighting was too dark, could be difficult and uncomfortable for anyone with vision problems.
The waiters are fantastic, Knowledgeable and quick to fill your water back up!
Ordered the chateaubriand, which was absolutely delicious. Meat was so tender, cuts like butter.
Not to mention the dessert menu had lots of choices.
Highly recommend!

This restaurant was the first one named by our concierge when asked for an ole fashioned non-chain steak house. The staff welcoming, the decor is warm and the food outstanding. Our waiter was patient, started us with libations, made recommendations and never rushed us along. We started with onion soup au gratan (super cheesy) lobster bisque (light and creamy) caprese salad (plentiful) then onto filet mignon, tuna steak and pork chops with baked potatoes and french fries. Everything was cooked to perfection. Dessert was a delightful white chocolate house with chocolate mousse inside. OMG! We were then given a private tour of the wine cellar and banquet tables. Best of the best all around. Enjoy!

Extensive wine list, and I mean extensive . It’s however difficult to find a bargain.

Visited at least four times in the last 18 months. Steaks are usually on point. On one occasion it was not so great. It was the last one too so it’s close to mind. Otherwise they knock it out of the park.

No fuss, authentic and genuine service.

I am a big fan of their pickles to start. The bowl of French fries, hits home different and last but not least - their Brussel sprouts are amazing.

Went for dinner on last night of our stay in Toronto. Beautiful restaurant, lovely atmosphere and excellent service. Our waiter, Terence, advised on menu and wines.
We ordered the sirloin and the ribeye.
Both steaks cooked to perfection. Sides delicious…. Very generous portions so despite the deserts looking delicious- we simply couldn’t fit them in.
It’s not cheap- but a great meal at a fair price for experience. Highly recommend .⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Also- the ladies toilets…. Wow…. Definitely pay a call 😜

Highly recommend this steak house and butcher shop.

the owners are very friendly and accommodating to your party. The atmosphere is cozy for any occasion.
Got the French onion soup, and striploin with baked potato-both delicious. They provide some pickles as sides while you wait for your meal.
You can also order their steaks and sides on their online butcher shop for an at home experience.

Woof. Straight out of Mad Men! Barberian’s lives up to the hype.

From eyeing the maître d’s notebook of handwritten reservations upon walking in - musket guns adorning the crown moulding - ambient, low lighting in an intimate dining room, seemingly wallpapered and wood panelled from a forgotten decade — this restaurant is a one-of-a-kind time capsule. Looking around at the delightfully mixed clientele (younger colleagues having a dinner out, nervous startup duo wooing an international client, a family celebrating a special occasion) you could just as easily envision the same room, virtually untouched, decades earlier and filled with smoke and cabinet ministers, or men with double-breasted suits and low hats.

There’s a book I love by Maeve Binchy called Quentins, that chronicles the lives of an Irish community: the restaurant acts as the sturdy pillar, centrepiece and backdrop for the generations and stories that grew within and around it. I see Barberian’s embodying that same mythical ethos. It feels like a special place.

Thanks to our wonderful server Angelo for being so considerate and helping to mark our special occasion. I really appreciated your thoughtfulness. The bussers and server assistants in particular were standouts in the service - very pleasant, unrushed and helpful. I can’t wait to bring others back.

Shown: excellent prime rib and Yorkshire pudding, plus perfectly done dry aged steak (minus the potato toppings and house horseradish that knocked my socks off).

Great food and over the top service! It was established in 1959, and you could tell with their intense wine list and monster cellar. The steak was top notch cooked perfectly. I surprisingly loved their stewed spinach, and their garlic bread. Desert and wine were excellent as well.

My friend and I had heard tell of how great this place was and decided to go on a weekend trip to Toronto. Come with a full wallet and an empty stomach because though this place is certainly premium priced, you get what you pay for. I've had many great steak dinners, but this is still probably the best I've ever had. The service was friendly and surprisingly fast, and the food was absolute perfection, exactly as ordered. I could also eat the complimentary pickled vegetables by the jar. I'll definitely go here again.

Downtown for a show and decided to try Barberian’s. We made a reservation a few days prior.

Friendly service, attentive staff, and the food was all delicious. We had salad and shrimp cocktail to start and the rib steak and dry aged steak mains. Try the horseradish with your steak, it’s a nice zing. The pickled veggies are a great way to start the night. Ambiance is dark and old school, and the ladies room was bright and spotless with Japanese toilets, yay!!

Absolutely amazing service and quality. For some context, a friend (as a thank you) took me to Jacob's & Co. which is supposed to be the "premier" steak house in Toronto. I had the 10 0z. ribeye, med rare. Very good but they served it sliced! Why? It was a little chewy for all the hype, but a nice piece of beef. So I treated myself to a steak at Barberians. It was absolutely wonderful! I got the 16 oz. ribeye bone in done Chicago style med rare. It was better done, tastier, and more tender. Not to mention my server, finding out the beer I tried was not to my taste, took it away and brought me a better one, no charge. I can't speak too highly of the quality and the service at Barberians. Budget allowing, I'd like to go there at least once a month.

Visiting Toronto from NS, our friends took us for steak - it was amazing. My husband and I shared the Chateaubriand. I cannot say enough about how good this was. The highlight of the trip. The history of this place, the staff, the wine cellar, the wine!! It was a wonderful experience. We will definitely be back.
