Pickle Barrel, Toronto Reviews (7)
The Pickle Barrel (Yonge & Eglinton) used to be a reliable place to get a good meal with good value. That's why we would keep giving it another chance. But in the last couple of years, it's usually disappointing. The quality and value keep getting worse, across the board. Then there's the designer low calorie menu: Let's just say anything can be less than 500 calories if you make it small enough. I needed a magnifying glass to find that overpriced hamburger and it didn't taste so great either, with nothing on the side to replace the bun and fries they left out. The last straw was when I bought a whole takeout cake for a party and when I served it, I realized it was stale. It had been ordered ahead of time and this is just not acceptable, especially for such an expensive cake.
Enough second chances. We’re through with The Pickle Barrel!

I have eaten at the Pickle Barrel many times over the years. They have a huge menu and I've had almost everything on it. On Saturday we decided to have lunch there. I warned micah.n49.ca not to expect things to arrive quickly as that is the sort of service I've had over the past 7 years. I was surprised! Everything came right on time! I had earl grey tea with honey and lemon.. they have the best earl grey ever! I ordered the Ruben sandwich and micah.n49.ca ordered the hot beef..or was it turkey? and we had the lobster artichoke dip to start..It was delish!
hahahaha good for Pickle Barrel! I was starting to think no one liked them any more.
I've always liked the Pickle Barrel for a quick lunch becuz of it's convenient location.
They have recently renovated the Pickel Barrel at Yonge and Dundas. I have gone there several times over the past 3 months. The food has been great, the service was ok, the new decor is a cross between a maze and a casino
YA! - I was at the also newly renovated PB on Leslie - It's a bit funky in there - Maze Casino AGREED!
I have to agree with the other comments. While this location is in a trendy area, the service here is poor. Our waiter did not write down our order, and of course, got things wrong. He was slow, and we had to repeat our requests several times. When my daughter's plain pasta finally arrived, it was cold. Of course he was no where to be found and we had to ask the manager for assistance. Not once did he come over to see how things were, ask if we needed anything or apologize for the delay.
I ordered a bellini which was a ridiculously large size. It looked like a giagantic slushy. If there was alcohol in it, you'd need a week of sipping to find the bottom of the glass. All in all a disappointing meal.

I think the food was very good at the pickle barrel. I got the Corned beef sand which. I think next time I should get cheese on it though or maybe mustard. silver got the ribs. The one at leslie is much worse except I love what they've doner with the renovations.
I agree. The food is very good at Pickle Barrel but the service is consistently horrible. The one across from Eaton Centre in Toronto has the worst wait staff ever.
Given that there is so much competetion, there is really no need to put up with it.

I dislike the Pickle Barrel service too! And you are right - the service is bad not at just one location!!! Maybe they need some sort of new training system.
My friends and I like PB Sherway for the good food and lots of free parking. But we frequent it for the great customer service. Since it opened, it’s become a monthly ritual for us to meet there. The staff know us, the newbies know of us. We always get our usual table – only because our topics of conversation are not for virgin ear consumption:) The staff take the time to sit with us and have a drink when they’re done their shift. They make it very comfortable. I don’t think I can say the same for the other PB locations.
cant' stand the staff there!! .. as the food is so good, the staff is lacking some serious practice/manners/interest .. they seem all angry that they have to work. Starting with the hostesses - god forbit you point to a table you like better than what they chose for you (don't tell them how to do their job) - ending with any waiter we had there sofar. Forgetful, unpleasant, bored out of their minds. Only the bartenders seem to be always happy ... must be the alcohol :-)
Personally i don't like establishments like this and walk into them with big scepticism. But i have to say, every time i order something in here, its always really good!! lol
The chicken fajitas are incredible, come with big spread of sides tomatoes, quacamole and the whole shabank ... breakfast is ok, their french fries are amazing, the smoked turkey on grilled panini is to die for, bruscheta even looks great.
and now the kung-pao ... delish!! meat ball spaghetti were yummy too ...i really don't wanna like this place but we haven't had anything yet that didn't taste good.
and they carry the mighty leaf tea selection ... those who love their earl grey tea ask for it .. you won't regret

I went to Pickle Barrel out of curiosity.
It was a good choice.
We had to wait a little bit because it was busy, but we didn't have to stand up, they had a place to seat and wait while browsing the menu.
I ordered a big canadian burger and it was really good.
After that I had an ice cream with cookies.
An advice, order one for two people, it's really big !
The waitress always had a smile and was very nice (maybe she just had a good day :) ).
Just a little thing that turned me off: I dropped a coin on the floor and moved the table to get it... You don't want to know all the stuff i found under it.

Pickle Barrel used to be really awesome but it has gone down hill since it gained popularity. I still enjoy it though, and my family sometimes goes there when we need to celebrate but can't afford to pay for everyone at a higher class place.
I have never tried the burger but I will have to make a point to when I go again.

So true! Sarah's right it has gone down hill a bit but the cheesecake is to die for and needs to be split!!! Gross table, isn't that against health codes??? I'll make sure I don't wear sandals!
Ordered cheesecake once...took the hard chocolate layer off the top...and BAM, mold. Not cool.
They replaced it pretty quick, and apologized profusely, but I'm wary of their desserts.
