Bad experience
I have always loved the products and the level of attention to detail, but most recently when I visited, Frank did my "balyage" after insisting that I get this technique and going against my request. Well, this technique was sloppy. It turned out awful with large chunks of blonde in random places that looked just the way it was done...slapped on with a paint brush very carelessly. My hair was so damaged afterwards it crumbled when I rubbed it between my fingers. It was NOT worth any of my time or money. My hair is still in awful shape, 3 months later. It's too bad because I used to like this place and the hair washing experience and the way they "used" to do my highlights and lowlights.

Saab Salon Spa Review - Will not be returning
It’s hard to know where to begin with this review. Firstly, I acknowledge that when the owner cut, coloured, and highlighted my hair, it looked very good, but not perfect. The layers on the right and left are different lengths… as a stylist at another salon in Kanata noticed when I was with a friend for her colour consultation this week. I’ll be going to her for my next cut!

The real issues with this salon are not with the quality of the work, but rather with their integrity and transparency with their prices, and annoying product pushing. Having said that, during my first experience having colour at this salon, the stylist offered to thin out my bangs (which had been cut elsewhere), and she thinned them out by making the top layer of bangs shorter than the layers beneath! Who does that!?

Here are some of the issues with this salon:
• Don’t get fooled by the $20 off first time visit coupon or the referral discounts. I provided a ‘referral’ coupon to a family member, and when she got her hair cut they told her they’d entered that discount into the system under my name so that I would get a referral discount on my next appointment. That did NOT happen. I forgot to ask, and they certainly did not apply any discount, as otherwise they would have happily mentioned that.

• A family member had asked about the cost of getting Ombre hair colouring… she was quoted an approximate cost of $400-$500. Their rationale was that it’s a long process so they would have to charge by the hour! I’ll bet you’ve never heard of that before!

• My second and last appointment was with the owner, and I had colour, highlights, and a cut. I was utterly stunned when at the cash I was informed that I owed was just under $400, and I did not purchase any hair products. I’ve never paid that much. I was there for a painfully long time, approx. 4 hours (3 on colour, 1 on the cut and dry), so it seems I was probably charged by the hour.

• On my very first appointment for colour and highlights, I asked the cost before she began. At the cash, the price was mysteriously much higher. The explanations were vague. They kept entering the wrong amount in the debit machine. After much bantering back and forth, I just wanted to pay and get the hell out.

• When a family member had a cut and used the first time visit ‘coupon’, the cost of the cut was mysteriously higher than what she had been quoted. Perhaps they increase the cost to make up for the $20 discounts…and then some!

• This salon has consistent, recurrent issues of prices changing from what is quoted vs what you are asked to pay when leaving. It’s unprofessional and disrespectful.

• During the blow drying process the product promotion was simply too blatant and pushy. Whatever products they use on your hair, they take from the mass of products at their station and place them right in front of you, with labels perfectly facing you, hoping you’ll notice, be intrigued, ask about them, and then be given the sales pitch. I’ve never seen it done quite like this anywhere else. It’s just too in-your-face… and makes us determined to not buy anything!

• When the owner started to flat iron my hair, I guess he really wanted to ‘impress’ me with the sounds the T3 flat iron makes when it’s turned on or off, so he awkwardly grimaced, seeming to pretend that he had to turn it off and back on, obviously to ensure I’d hear the chimes. Turns out it’s a great flat iron, but I didn’t buy it there…. not after spending $400 for an appointment that should have cost $225-$250 at most. I happily purchased the T3 at a store in the Rideau Centre and earned points with my purchase!

We recently called several other salons and had 2 consultations for colour and highlights, and when we told them the pricing at Saab, they couldn’t believe it and had never heard of salons charging by the hour for colour, highlights, or Ombre.

Beware of changing pricing if you go to this salon!! Confirm the cost before, and ask them to itemize everything in your total.

The people at this salon are friendly, the location is great for anyone who lives downtown, and the cut and colour we received were actually nice… however, they’ve lost our repeat business. With reasonable prices, integrity, honesty and transparency with their pricing, and charging the quoted cost, they would have earned our repeat business, but instead, a few of us have now taken our business elsewhere.

We’ve since had gorgeous colour and highlights for a mere $182+ tax. And the price our new salon quoted before the service was exactly what we were charged! Love the integrity, clarity, honesty at our new fav salon in Kanata!

Saab Salon Spa Review
I had the misfortune of visiting the salon based on the quantity of reviews this salon has.I saw a hairdresser named Jesse and was told upon booking my appointment that she was a senior "experienced" hair stylist.
Unfortunately, that was a mistake because coming out of the salon, my hair was a DISASTER.
Here's a quick summary: I went in asking for a set of partial highlights, I came out with the top of my hair fried and the bottom with a different brassy orange looking color, 1. She managed to highlight both and fried the top, and left bottom brassy orange (Because they close at 8 and couldn't be bothered to fix her mistake. 2. She couldn't be bothered to apply the same toner color to the bottom part of my hair. 3. The owner Frank suggested that I should invest in their fusion extensions as a solution to the disaster his employee caused. Yeah. I don't think so buddy. Overall, worst experience at a hair salon, will never set foot at that hair salon again.

Not impressed and will not return
I booked an express manicure and was apparently given a full manicure when I asked why I was charged more than my friend who got the same service they explained I had the full manicure.

I explained to the manager that I had requested the express and he said "oh well you got the full service" with no sympathy apology or offer to refund. The full service only adds a moisturizer, definitely not worth the extra $20 or so.

The girls doing our pedicures and manicures were very nice and did a good job but because of the manager leaving a bad impression at teh end of our visit neither my friend or I will be returning.

There are many other spas providing the same services with much better service.

Great Visit, warm staff
I tried Saab after feeling like the service I was receiving from my previous esthetician was becoming progressively more unprofessional. My first visit at Saab really impressed me. I was a little apprehensive about the price, even though their prices are very competitive, I'm on a tight budget and visiting an esthetician is an extravagant purchase for me. When I arrive at Saab, the people that work there were very welcoming. The environment is warm and welcoming and I felt right at home...not a feeling I've had at other spas or hair salons. My visit was excellent, the staff were really genuine and sincere and I felt that my purchase was worth every penny. I promptly booked my next visit before I left. I would definitely recommend Saab to someone looking for a spa or salon.

Great experience!
I was very pleased with my entire experience. I received a cut & style by Tracey, who styled my hair even better than I had expected! While waiting every employee that walked by offered me a beverage, everyone was very welcoming and friendly. The salon is well kept and clean, much better than most salons in Ottawa. I definitely recommend this salon and will be returning regularly in the future!

haircut
I got a hair cut there, the stylist totally listened to what I said I wanted in a hair cut and was funny and charming. I liked her a lot, I booked an appointment in advance so I get her again. Looks different but suits me. Only reason I didn't give it 5 was because the head massage was not even a minute long, thats my favorite part! :) obviously going again.

Super Freindly + Super Professional = Super Satisfied!!!
I had to get my hair re-highlighted for a last minute event, so I googled "best colourist in Ottawa" and came across these reviews. So, I crossed my fingers and made a phone call and they managed to fit me in just 2 hours later!!! When I showed up, I was greeted by a lovely lady at the front desk who brought me a cappuccino while I waited. A friendly young lady, JAQUIE, then gave me a tour of the beautiful salon and spa and helped me get settled for TRACEY, my colorist du jour. TRACEY was AMAZING - listened to what it is I was looking for, asked a lot of questions, and then proceeded to work absolute magic on my hair. MIRANDA, an assistant at SAAB, did my wash and toner and gave me the most delicious head massage in the world. Finally, Tracey straightened my hair and ensured thatI was 100% happy with her work. I paid my bill, which, to my surprise and excitement, was a lot less than I was expecting. Overall, I am extremely happy with my experience at SAAB... never before have I left a salon THAT satisfied! I'd recommend it to anyone and everyone! Cheers =)

great lengths, just great
i recently became interested in purchasing hair extensions. unsure of the different methods and results i pursued some assistance and called saab salon (i knew of it because my sister always mentioned having her color there)... they invited me in for a free consultation which included a great latte!
after speaking with there specalist Celine i decided to ask around some other places because although the greatlengths sounded like an awesome option i just wasnt sure of the price.
after a bit of research i went out on a limb and booked in for them at saabs. they are amazing!!!
ive had them for about a month now and its just like styling your own long hair. celine did an amazing job and it was well worth the price!!

Great experience... for guys too!
Being a "guy's guy", I had never been in a salon/spa before, and at first was skeptical about the experience. I envisioned the place to be a venue for nouveaux-riche women going to get their hair and nails done while sharing gossip.

From the moment I stepped in Saab for the first time and was greeted with a friendly smile, I felt welcome and at ease. I had originally come in just to get my hair cut, but was treated to a complementary wash and shampoo, as well as a soothing neck massage. The stylist took her time with my hair, ensuring my complete satisfaction, resulting in an excellent haircut.

The staff were courteous, warm, and professional at all times; my visit was more than just a haircut - it was a relaxing and fulfilling experience. I have recommended Saab to friends, and would extend that recommendation to anyone looking for great-quality service in Ottawa.

Salon
My best haircuts come from this place. Although it is a bit pricy it's worth the extra money. I feel comfortable in these professionals hands that they will give me a cut that i will adore. The staff is friendly and professional! I highly highly recommend this salon!
