I'm on my second Canon PIXMA. The first one is 12 years old and still completely running. Take a class to learn and don't regret how to use more of its functionality. But because my Android phone camera allows me to edit on it, I like to use it more now.
I've had an SX 40 HS Power Shot for 3 + years. The camera is light enough to hold easily, fairly intuitive and takes excellent photos for someone who is not used to taking daily images.
Canon makes excellent cameras, and offers attentive customer support to back their goods.
