I have been a customer of City Bread since forever but, something has gone terribly wrong with the bread
I've loved for so long. I find it extremely dry, so I switched and bought Dempster's guess what?? Very dry
also.
So I ask you why is the bread SO DRY??

Rye bread has changed .....it’s not as dense and full of air. Used to be best bread in the city .... not anymore!

And I’m not referring to the religious aspect of your product. It has increasingly become the norm vs the exception to come across large air pockets in your rye bread. Having made bread myself, mind you not in the quantity you do, this is a simple matter of poor yeast preparation, if indeed any were followed, along with substandard mixing. Surely steps can be taken to reduce the number of air pockets. I love the product but having a hard time getting the peanut butter to bridge the gap in the bread, without it falling on my plate, the table, my housecoat, and the floor. Mind you I suppose your product could be considered a diet food.

What has happened to the rye bread we all grew up on? Holes galore and why is it so dry?

Used city bread for over 50 years and several months ago something changed. Rye bread has a terrible taste and smell. I buy a loaf once in a while now and smell, taste is still off. I throw it out. You definitely are using something different. Cant use it anymore.

Please don't change anything with the Supreme Seed! Its perfect. I stopped buying City Bread years ago because to me the taste just wasn't the same as when I used to eat it thirty years past. Thank you for providing the grocery store, Safeway aka IGA located in Dryden, Ontario with your Supreme Seed. I really have to give the workers great praise. Just wish I had seen it sooner. Thank you

Something has changed in the last few months. Taste is off and will be changing to another rye bread. It's a shame as this was the best bread in Manitoba.

My daughter was at a summer dance camp and they served them Marble Rye City Bread and she absolutely loved it. Where can we buy it in Edmonton?

Today was my 1st time buying at THE STORE with new rules applied. I`ve got 30% stuff I don`t eat, the bag was not full, the bottom bakery squashed ( the lady bringing the bakery was dropping bags like it was gravel not bread and buns in it ). I felt like beggar not buyer, like in starving African country (handed bread for free) not in Canada. Whoever made this change - should reconsider and make it right for the people.

Being a ''connoisseur'' of rye bread for over 70 years I think I know the problems of rye bread today.
For years I only bought KUB Bakery rye bread. Once Bill Kucher passed away and the bakery changed hands, the quality of there rye bread changed. I switched to City Bread which today is still the best rye bread in Winnipeg but none of the local bakeries make a rye bread of old anymore. I feel the reason is cost, of course. But I also find they all have changed the ratio of rye flour to white flour substituting more white than rye which in turn takes away from the real rye bread we all love.

I used to love the product and like this company. In the last few years it seems the quality has sunk dramatically. Don't bother trying to speak to someone about your complaints either as higher management is VERY unpleasant. Very dissapointing and I won't be giving them my business unless it changes. Also tell everyone I know to AVOID CITY BREAD.

Obviously something has changed with the recipe, it is full of holes, is dry and tasteless, Can't be compared to the delicious, chewy rye I have bot for 40 yrs. Can anyone suggest where to get a better loaf?

The City Bread rye bread I grew up eating since 1961 had flavor . After recently visit my family, I brought two loaves of rye home on the plane. There are no caraway seeds in the rye any more, it doesn't smell like rye bread any more, and it tastes like some generic store brand bread. Very very disappointing. I can't imagine this modern City Bread rye bread is popular with anyone who grew up eating the original" staple " rye bread of Winnipeg family life for decades. Not buying ever again. You've ruined the best rye bread ever.....

Enjoyed city rye bread for the last 50 years! It's great as a sandwich or toasted, doesn't even need peanut butter.Always buy it and you should to, way better than natural bakery rye. Thank you Robbie

My wife and I have always bought city bread, it always was the best in winnipeg, but in the last month, or so, it seems to be very doughy, it doesn't taste the same, have you changed your recipe? if you have, please go back to the same recipe, you used for years, and we will continue to buy it, otherwise, we will have to look elsewhere. interested customer.

Your bread tastes like my grandmas. love it She used to make a black pumpernickel with caraway seeds loved that too. Where can we buy your bread in saskatoon? We'd eat more if it was whole grain.

I have enjoyed your rye bread for many years but have noticed large air holes throughout the loaf, starting about 6 months ago...not good for sandwiches! Is there a QA problem??

For years we have enjoyed City Rye, always buying the large loaves which are better for sandwiches. Lately, we find that there are so many large air holes - not good for sandwiches! Is there a lack of quality control? I will have to consider making or buying other bread if this continues.

I am not a baker but is there a problem with kneading the doe & getting more air out of the doe?
Interested in your comments.

Apparently Kosher means you can't put any thing that actually makes the bread taste good in the ingredients. The worst bread I've had
