Same story as many other folks. Went in for a quick oil change because of the convenience factor. What i sat through was essentially 20 minutes of up-selling. Knowing this might happen i came in with a preconceived story and shared that I would be getting rid of the car soon so i was not looking to spend anything extra. This helped me reduce a few charges from the extras they wanted to take care of. We ignored the "cracked belts," and dirty filter but i was still heavily pushed towards the Rad Service, which despite my numerous calls to decline was met with some strong insistence that it needed to get done or I could end with my car on the side of the highway. The pressure sales and scare tactics amount to the end of my patronizing this business. I will loudly and confidently share my experience to friends, family, and anyone else who will listen so they too may avoid the same fate.

Uninformed consumers are everywhere and we put our trust in companies everyday to do right by the us. When sales and pressure tactics like this become the norm we are left with the only option to empower ourselves. I know life is busy and we want shortcuts, but when we power ourselves with knowledge and critical awareness we put the ball back in our court and out of the hands of those who will do whatever it takes to make and extra buck. No thanks Mr. Lube.

I took my car in to mr lube on second and main and everything went fine. Until 6 weeks later when my car brake system seized up. It turns out that somehow Oil got into my break line. considering I had taken my car there last and was told it takes about a month for the oil to work through the system all evidence seems to be pointing at them. When I spoke to the manager he said it couldn't have been them as they dont do brakes. Within 5 minutes he was telling me to take him to court. I spoke to the corporate head office and asked how I would contact their board of directors and got attitude. I was told ," everyone calls and wants to speak to the board of directors and they just redirect the calls to the regional office." which suggests to me that this happens often.
Dont use them
I am out over 3000.00 so far

I only go here b/c it's convenient but each time I go it gets worse and I will never take my car there again. Last time I went they tried to sell me: 1) an engine flush, which I declined. 2) radiator flush and new fluid, on a radiator that's 6 months old, with new fluid! Again, no thanks 3) Serpentine belt. My mechanic put a new belt in a month ago. I asked "did you look at the belt?" The guy goes "what?" I said "it's brand new". So he mumbles "oh I was just going by what was on the computer on your last visit". He added "the belt guy's not here today". The belt guy's not here? Are you kidding me? These guys are dishonest, and worse, don't know anything about cars. They will never touch mine again. Total disgrace. Go to a real mechanic.

I have been a customer of Mr. Lube for 30 years and today, my relationship with them just ended.
They were rude, filthy dirty (I didn't want them holding my keys), seemed to be impatient with me, lied and told me I needed something "extra" done to my car (a mere $109 "extra" charge). They can't be bothered to speak English to each other as they are chatting about hell knows what across your car...all of this, for only $102.17...From now on, I'll go to Canadian Tire

Girlfriend went in for a $35 oil change, walked out with a $320 bill for services that were definitely not necessary. Please, please take your car somewhere else. These guys are a bunch of crooks.

If they tell you that you need a transmission fluid replacement, please just get in your car and leave.

Important Note: While the posting shows the Arbutus location of Mr. Lube, the issues here presented are not with that location but the one on Main & Great Northern Way in Vancouver.

I was a long time client of Mr. Lube. My company brought it's vehicles for service there on an exclusive basis. In particular the one on Main & Great Northern way in Vancouver BC.

First Problem: Leaking Oil Pan bolt. I only ever had the oil changed at Mr. Lube. I developed an oil leak form a stripped bolt and had the oil pan changed on my Chevy Venture Van. A few months later the same problem develops and the service person explains it is a stripped bolt, again. Having only had my oil change done at Mr. Lube it was obvious they were responsible. e-mails to head office received no reply.

Second Problem & Most Serious: I had the air filter changed on my Chevy Venture van, not an easy job. The technician had a very hard time to get it all back together. It took 45 minutes of struggle for him and two other technicians had to help him as he did not know how to do it. He also cursed and was throwing his tools around while under the hood. After leaving my Van developed problems, loud whistle sound, stalling and what seemed like transmission problems. I never thought the problems could be associated to the work done at Mr. Lube. I was super busy at work and didn't have time to deal with the problems and simply rented a car thinking my van was getting on in age and not worth fixing. Eventually I sold the van at 10% of market value thinking the problems were serious. Ends up the problem was with vacuum connections not being connected back, this problem cost me and the loss of a van that was still good for many more miles.

In both cases Mr. Lube cost me money and losses. No one answers letters sent. My advice based on my experience and personal opinion is stay away from this company. They also became very pushy on extra services.

I totally agree with not going to Mr. Lube ever for service. My husband took our 2006 GMC truck after a month of owning it and took it in for a 5000 km check....NEVER AGAIN!! After travelling less then 2000 KMs we experienced a terrible bang under the truck....what had happened is the drive shaft came apart and other things such as your gears went and we eventually got it to the GM dealership and they were suprised we even walked away from this...what had happened is something about the diff plug not there...I remembered that Mr. lube had asked if we wanted a top up because the diff fluid was low...we thought no it can't be that low we just got the truck...well they forgot to put back the diff plug and secure it... I have 6 thousand dollars worth of damage from them not putting back the plug...and now they are saying you refused a top up well no you forgot to put back the plug...I am definetly going after them for this ...the bugger part is they won't pay up at first we have to pay it then get a claim started at the courts...I will never do business with them again.

I had to replace my engine after it was overfilled with oil by the MR.LUBE 'experts'; causing the car to smoke profusely and the air filter was drenched in over a litre of oil. I am intending to take legal action against the branch.

Additional business details

Until the mid-seventies, most oil changes were still being done by service stations and car dealerships. But entrepreneur Cliff Giese of Edmonton, Alberta sensed an opportunity. Cliff invented the 'drive-thru' quick oil change concept and in 1976 opened the first Mr. Lube store in Edmonton. Never before had an oil change and lube been so fast, convenient and affordable. By 1984, Mr. Lube had 45 stores across Canada and had initiated its Canadian Franchise Program. NOW we have 88 stores across Canada providing a full range of vital fluid services and other preventative vehicle maintenance. We're the country's leader in the industry - and still growing.
