Despite its friendly exterior and outdoor bench, I won’t be coming back. After going there for 15 years, something’s changed - a chilliness from the front staff and new test requests from the vets when I’m pretty sure they aren’t necessary. I’m of the many people who got new pets during COVID because I can work from home. The cost of neutering our new puppy was more expensive at Dundas Euclid because they insist on a blood test. My partner and I are freelancers and every cent counts, so we had it done elsewhere.

Then we got a new kitten (pets are my workmates now - no annoying small talk and all cuddles), but Dundas was full so I took her to nearby College Street Animal Hospital for her vaccination. The exterior is boring and they don’t have a bench (!) but front staffer Eden was a pleasure to talk to.

When our senior cat Frankie got congested (I suspected a virus caught from our kitten – a bundle of sneezy cuteness) Dundas had no spots so they suggested their sister clinic far in the east end. I told them I don't want to go to the other side of the city (no available car). I wasn’t rude, I was just honest. Eden at College street said they were also booked but they might be able to squeeze me in tomorrow and she got a vet tech named Monica to email me. Monica thought Frankie's wheezing didn't sound worrying, but told me that open mouth breathing is a warning. Later, Frankie started breathing through his mouth. I emailed Eden. She called back. They just closed but she knew Dundas Euclid was still open and since Frankie is their patient they shouldn’t be sending him away without help. I went straight there but the front staff (Hunter and Brenda) still refused him. I asked for help and they gave me a number for a nearby emergency clinic. The clinic was at capacity - but told me Dundas Euclid should not refuse Frankie and should help me find a place to take him. Finally, after some backroom discussion, they took Frankie in.

I asked why they refused him earlier and they said they’re 'not an emergency hospital'. I didn’t yell, but I definitely complained. All of a sudden Melissa the administrator came out and yelled at me. She said they were all stressed, exhausted and overworked, and how dare I berate the front staff. I’m a calm person. I was nowhere near 'berating' level. I’d call it ‘politely criticizing their attitude’ level. Melissa, yell-asked me why I refused to go to their sister clinic earlier. It suddenly all made sense. I’d been discussed in private and was being punished. Wow.

I do feel for vet clinics and the COVID pet boom, but they are making good money. Fortunately, I got Frankie his antibiotics (after the vet convinced me to pay for heart x-rays when I knew he caught something from my kitten) but it was obvious I’m not welcome there. I figured that extra $400 would be my parting gift for their previous years of better service.

College Street Animal Hospital could definitely use some funkier signage and a bench, but I think I’ll be able to live without those extra perks ;)

Thank you for taking care of my best friend. My dog Babba.
It says a lot when a dog walks in willingly with her tail wagging and not leash.

Hi, my name is Astro, I was very sick and my parents got information about “The Farley Foundation” by The Humane Society in order to help me.

My Vet Dr. Barrientos immediately told me that I met the requirements of the Foundation. He helped me and took care of me in his clinic "Dundas Euclid Animal Hospital".

I was there for a full day and he ordered many tests for me and gave me medication. Now I'm back at my parent’s house healthy, happy and beautiful.

Thanks to Dr. Barrientos and his great team who took care of me with love.

For the parents of all the "pets" please support Dr. Barrientos in "2011 Ride for Farley Cyclists" to be held on September 10 to raise funds for the “Farley Foundation" and be able to help more friends.

It is a noble cause

I write with over 10 years' experience with Dundas Euclid:
1. Honest, thorough and gentle provision of information
2. Exceptional follow-up
3. At-home end-of-life calls if requested
4. Responsive, personable, prompt and professional
5. The clinic supports newcomers to Canada and charitable organizations
6. With their care our senior canine friend Jack is alive despite grim prognosis 5 1/2 years ago.
7. Just ask their cat Oro - the best place!

Dr. Barrientos and staff laughed when I first introduced 'Porkchop' to their clinic. They found the humour in her silly name.
I found them to be very caring, patient and understanding. Never did I ever feel rushed through an appointment. Questions were answered beyond satisfaction and believe me, I usually come with many...
Prices were reasonable and it never felt like they were a 'money' business.
Thank you Dundas-Euclid for caring.
Porkchop passed on suddenly late October 2009. She is truly missed.

I have tried 4 different vets since moving down town. None of them passed my test. My test, by the way, is compassionate treatment, up to date expertise, a neighborly atmosphere, honesty, and fair pricing. Luckily, a colleague told me about Dr. Barrientos' Dundas Euclid Clinic. I haven't looked back. It is a high tech clinic, but without the high tech feel. In my search, I saw many "corporate" type clinics. I never want to be just a number, and I sure don't want my pets to just be numbers either! Dundas Euclid has a warm and neighborly feel to it. The front line staff, the Animal Techs, and the Vets, all clearly care about the animals we bring to them. One has only to sit in the waiting room to know that. I had an aging Pug that I thought I was going to lose mid-May. I took her in, and Dr. Barrientos and staff were able to give her extra months of good living. Two weeks ago, I had to have her put to sleep. That was a really tough one for me. But with the quiet emotional support I received from everyone, made it so much easier for me.
I would recommend this clinic to anyone, without even thinking – and I have.

While the service and care do seems very good, I too have never seen the same vet twice over several years with a dog with some chronic health problems, so I use the clinic pretty regularly. No one knows me there other than the receptionist.

Great clinic and staff. I've been a client for 8 years and couldn't be happier with the service I've received here. I would definitely refer this clinic to anyone looking for a vet in downtown toronto. Has a great grooming facility also.

If you want to see a specific vet, perhaps you should just mention that when booking your appointment. I've been going to this clinic since 2001. They are terrific and really care about my cats. Enough said.

I have been to the Dundas-Euclid Animal Hospital three times. Of those three times I have seen the same vet exactly ZERO times. Do vets just rent this place by the hour?? I have to repeat my dog's history each time and each time we start again from scatch for the same ailment. The prices are apparently up to the decision of the particular vet, as the quotes I receive from one have changed when I end of being ushered to another.
Just another money grubbing business. I felt no care nor concern for the well being of my pet. I would not recommend this animal hospital for anything except the friendliness of the front desk staff.

I've been going there for many years now. My first interaction with Dundas-Euclid was when I brought my elderly dog there for care. The vet and all the staff were friendly, knowledgeable and so helpful. When my dog was at the end of her long life, we were treated with wonderful kindness and compassion. Since then, they have cared for another dog and for my cats. I've always had excellent care with them.

Recently, I took my long-haired cat in for her first grooming visit, and that was also an excellent experience. I was treated with friendly consideration, and my animal was handled in the most caring and skillful manner. Outstanding service, five stars every time.

Its great to have a vet who is really compassionate about the animals and not just the pay cheque... Especially during the hard time. They sound like a really nice clinic!

The staff at this clinic are very welcoming and you are left with a feeling that your pet is being left and being treated by caring people. Great atmosphere and you know that their goal is to help you make the right decisions and they are there to make your pet get better.
I won't be taking my dog anywhere else
