We can only write our experience. I only include facts as I experienced them:

GOOD:
1. People are great and the interaction with them is lovely.
2. Mark knows VW Beetle very well (what I took to him)

BAD:
1. Mark is not prompt in calling back; you must call to follow up; a one day job took 3; I think he is just over booked! perhaps it would be a good idea to accept less work but do a better job in managing customer relationship; thats said, most people with an old VW use it as a second or leisure car; so maybe its not that bad to wait a lot longer.
2. For some reason bills are VERY HIGH $$$$$! this is difficult to compare or judge. but I feel the work done did not warrant the bill given to me.
3. There was no "returning" of the car to me: no review of what was done; show me details; nothing. Again, he is way too busy.

I wish he would pay more attention to making a name for the brand and quality of work so I would go back; but its a difficult decision to return there.

This shop was recommended by a friend of a friend. I bought a used 2001 Volvo that had transmission problems early on. Mark looked at it an said it would need a rebuild. $4400 later 2.5 years and 80k down the road and the transmission is gone again. Adria's response: "it's out of warranty we can do another rebuild". I love this car but cannot afford a third transmission. They do not back up their work. Parts car...very disappointed.

I've been coming to Mark and Tony's (and their Mom's) Adria Import Car Service since 1990 - and I'm starting to really question the accuracy of all these negative online reviews. I think when people are frustrated and in a hot temper, they tend to bias their review in an attacking manner.

I sure wouldn't be coming to Adria for all my automotive repairs for 25 years, if they hadn't been doing a pretty good job.
- Of course nobody is perfect and many automotive problems are very complicated, so I'm sure things can go sideways. But its important to try to be accurate when recounting events.

Mark and his father Tony (from Europe), the owner's of Adria, have always been very fair and friendly, and I've had very extensive repairs done thru the 25+ years.
- And the last time Mark even said I didn't need a tune-up cause I had hardly driven it in 2 years. Whose ever heard of a mechanic turning down an opportunity to do a simple, easy tune-up?

Mark always explains the details of what they do, in easy to understand language, and often shows me the parts they've taken out to show me why they replaced them.

I've NEVER had to have their repairs re-done, EVER. Yes, like everyone they are not perfect, and sometimes it can be really hard to find the cause of a problem. But they have always done a good repair job that has lasted years afterward.

My VW van is 30 years old with 200,000 km on it, and I've had them do very extensive repairs to my engine several times:
- They replaced the water jacket which keeps the engine cool - 1984 VW Vans are known for that problem, which caused steam (water) to come out of my exhaust pipe.
- They replaced the rings on my cylinders, as well as replacing my clutch
- And of course they've done all the more mundane repairs like brakes, etc...
- They used to do autobody repairs, and they did quite a good job with extensive side panel replacement due to really bad rusting.

Most of the major work Adria did for me was done in the 90's and early 2000's, with more minor stuff recently. It's possible that a newer mechanic that they've hired isn't quite as good as the ones they had before, though they all seem pretty good.

I've always felt more confident with Mark and his mechanics than with other repair shops, and I've been to 12+ repair places (usually decent but sometimes not) around Vancouver, North Van and Richmond in the 80's, 90's and 2000's.

A few years ago when I was in a rush to go on my honeymoon with my new-to-me VW Van, Adria was having trouble finding a difficult to diagnose engine stalling problem with it - But Mark and Tony went out of their way to have a part delivered by helicopter courier from Victoria the day of my wedding, on a Saturday!

They are quite popular and often they can get very busy, so Mark can seem a bit rushed, though I always seem to find him friendly and easy to get along with. He's very direct though, and while I happen to prefer that, other poeple may not be used to that more European approach to conversation. And like any of us, if voices start getting raised, you can often see a more impatient side of any human being.

With the more difficult to solve engine problems it can take quite a bit of tricky detective work, and some problems are harder to solve than others. So there are occasions where I've left the vehicle a few days with them and they weren't able to find the problem initially, due to it being more complicated than just simple repairs. In which case they would tell me to return the next day (or next week if it was a Friday). Upon which they would always be able to put all of their focus on my car's problem -
- And it's always been resolved to my satisfaction, and in a reasonable manner, with logical, common-sense reasons if there were any delays.

And I've always felt that they were charging me the fair and appropriate number of working hours and parts for what they did and they've always been good at explaining what all the charges were for. And all of the time they were able to solve the problems to my satisfaction.

I know I'd sure trust Adria a heck of a lot more than any dealership repair shop.

Mark and his mechanics aren't perfect. But they sure try pretty hard, and I've always found them fair and reasonable. And I trust them as much and more than any other repair shop I've been to around Vancouver over the decades.

Dropped off my car for tune up and have it taken thru air care. Get call that my car is burning ALTTLE oil now. ...go down to take look AND FIND OUT THEY blew UP MY MOTOR while in there shop. Had to tow to another shop on flat deck. Mark and the old man NEVER do there work on time and charge you big round numbers.

I was advised Adria was a honest family run east side business, I soon learned that reccomendation proved incorrect. Adria worked on a vehicle of mine and I feel I was treated like a sucker. As I'm no mechanic any explanation was trusted, however it turned out I was raked over the coals and was stung with bills worth more than the value of the vehicle. It took over a month to locate a part and any work failed within a month of repair. Parts that were replaced previously seemed to be required to be replaced again. Attempting to bring to their attention any request to correct resulted in foul words and no assistance. I would never bring a vehicle to this shoddy shop nor recommend them to anyone. BEWARE!

I have dealt with this father-son business over ten years, on three different car that I've owned. They offer excellent service, with the precision and quality that matches the European cars that are their specialty. If you need a new auto mechanic, give Mark or Anton a call.

I found Adria import auto service in 2005 and thought I was on to something good.

Since then almost every repair job I've had done has been back in to fix major mistakes. I am now looking for service for my 97 golf somewhere else.

Definitely not recommended! When they make a mistake, you will pay for it.
